I can probably see how this ideoogy would appeal to the modern mindset ( confused by differing ideals, wanting something other than traditional relgion, and an end to the conflicts differing ones sadly end up in) but I would imagine its historical basis is speeculation at best.

By the way I am a Christian who probably isn't likely to believe in this sort of thing, I do realise, but I think there is good evidence to suggest it is a better and truer way.
