Cant help smiling while I watch this video...the accomplishment of these individuals and everyone involved, as well as how far we've come as an intellectual species makes me happy. :) Cant wait to see what else there is to discover!
@spergman actually the space shuttles and the science to send astronauts to space is the most complicated science in the world. NASA is a SPACE PROGRAM. Get the picture? You want real science done you get your ass to a university. I'm going to major in physics at JHU rated 13th best school in the USA and then was going to work at NASA and I'm offended by what you just said. Space in beautiful. It should be explored. Amen.
Freee energy for all Its a A dream M8's!The humans are too egoists to share and do the rihgts things and too noobs to understand tha our filosofi of life its wrong! We are a violent kind so..nothing good in front of us! Its just my opinion i hope is not a fact!
Now that we're finished throwing money into this particular money pit, maybe we'll get some more real science done. It's really amazing how well NASA has done with science, on a shoestring budget, while simultaneously hemorrhaging half its budget into this useless running in place exercise. The hemorrhage is to continue. TX and FL demand the pork. But at least the new manned space plan is not *totally* purposeless. Good bye, Shuttle program. And good riddance. Let's do some science.
Man, if I went to space I'd play with my food and say 'take that mum!'. I'd also throw shit down at the earth....somehow I don't think I'd be allowed in space.
If humans were a unified planetary species, without the anchors of religion, racism, and war. If we had all of Earth's resources and scientists working together our progress would be limitless. MY dream is to see a unified Earth, because if everything was a 6 billion person effort, nothing would be impossible.
i really feel for all the americans that are going to lose their jobs once the shuttle program ends soon, especially for all the ones that trained to be astronauts for so long. i can only imagine how they feel after dreaming to be astronauts for so long only to have their dreams crushed by shuttle missions ceasing. the only option i could see for them is to move to another country and be astronauts for another country's shuttle program, if that's even allowed.
you know, i always wondered how astronauts are able to keep food and liquids down in zero gravity. must take alot of training and practice to keep from regurgitating food all over the place.
i dont see any sleeping quarters anywhere, i wonder how people sleep without floating around and bumping into walls or one another. must be difficult to get much sleep at all in zero gravity.
its amazing how they were able to establish a constant breathable atmosphere on a such a huge station like that. its almost like having a city out in space, its unbelievable that something like this can exist in only in the 21st century. i wonder how big the station is exactly, in terms of feet/meters.
3:36 when the shuttle first docks and the way everyone greets each other is just so heartwarming. it really gives you the impression that astronauts really have a huge sense of affection, friendship, and appreciation for one another despite being from various places around the world. plus i would imagine after being stuck on the station for so long, being able to see new people after awhile would be a welcome experience.
this is probably the most interesting thread of comments ive ever read under any video i have ever watched on youtube. ive spent the past hour reading all the comments ever made under this video. the expression of hope and beauty is such a huge theme on this thread, i wish all threads were like this.
so does this mean that other countries will be the only ones to maintain the iss now? will americans keep going into space on foreign space shuttles? its depressing enough to know that the shuttle program has ended but what's even more depressing is the possibility of these new plans to travel to space being a little too ambitious considering america's economic status. i really want to see humans continue their advancement into space but my own country not participating is depressing. :(
watching this was such a truly magical experience, he was right when he said that i wouldnt want this video to end. highlight was probably when one astronaut was messing around with a floating globe of water, seeing it happen in real life just reaffirmed the fact that these people were in space. videos like this make you wanna be an astronaut. its sad that this is one of the last shuttle missions by americans, kinda depressing when you think about it. :(
I think it is kinda scary how anti-religious many seem to be here. Even though I don't really like the pope, I'm a Christian so it isn't really fun to see everyone babbling about how ´delusional´people like I am. Can't we just watch this great video about Space without comments like that? =/
@AgrivatedKillah I know that some Creationist Christians believe that the Earth is 6000 years old and don't think that mankind and animals have a common descent and stuff like that, but to say that every Christian is like that is very wrong.I am quite anti thinking like that, and there are many Christian scientists who would agree with me there, examples would be Francis Collins, genescist/physician, Karl W Giberson, physicist/scollar, John Polkinghorne former particle physicist, now priest. etc
@AgrivatedKillah Don't know what you mean really. Every single one of them are Christians, so you can't say they are not religious. Francis Collins was the leader of the very big Human Genome project which mapped our entire DNA code. Karl Giberson is a Physicist and a Schollar speciallizing in the Creation vs Evolution debate, being on the Evolution side. He is also a Christian and works with Francis Collins to sustain the BioLogos Foundation.
@AgrivatedKillah John Polkinghorne is a former Particle Physicist who later became an Anglican priest, he worked along side with the famous astronomer Fred Hoyle for example and is one in forefront in the Religion - Science debate. He is also an Evolutionist and is in a coming documentary about Christianity and Evolution. Francis Collins and many other Christian biologists partly from the BioLogos foundation is also in it. So I don't know what you got that from. Maybe I missunderstood you? Sorry
I got to watch this shuttle launch from my flight home. I gotta say it is the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life and I'm glad that I got to see it before the end.
Yes I confess I am an idiot, but not as big an idiot as your "AIDS is bad, but condoms are worse pope", "lets cover up child molestation", "lets kidnap babies", pope/Catholic Church.
@Dafariii Certainly the pope is more a politician and 'good ole boy' than anything else, shielding his buddies from criminal charges such as pedophilic rape. And I would be the first to applaud if all churches fell. But do have a look at the good work that Father George Coyne is doing at the Vatican Observatory near Tucson, AZ. He has some wonderful talks on YT. One thing I will grant the Catholic church. They are not monolithic.
omg this video was not at all what i thought it would be. i thought it was gonna be a historical account or something, with boring milestones. but it turned out to be the best seat in the house!
This is soooooooooo cool! I wonder though, if space is dark, like being in a room with the lights off, how can the astronauts see where they're going?
@DougieBarclay its funny cause humans didnt exist until about 100 thousand years ago so 4 and a half billion years is when the earth formed :P long before any life was spawned but I see what your talking bout :P
Yes, conspiracy theorists, it's a coverup... the shuttle launch was just for effect. Instead of actually going into orbit they parked the shuttle round the corner and chilled in starbucks for a while... had a latte, faked a little zero g cgi on a laptop... I thought the bit where he washed his face in zero g water was particularly good...
@BravestonerRob try going out tonight and place yourself under a streetlight. do you see any stars when you look up iin the sky? No, you say? I thought so...
@Raewi the switches/buttons/hatches that would cause total failure of the whole station are probably locked away good, that would make sense in a project that costs shit tons of money from every american citizens pocket to invest an extra couple of dollars on locks for them :P
@MichaelJacksonFan000 If there is no gravity anything can float. Unless it's magnetic but I don't think obese people are any more magnetic than regular people :)

You`re painfully unfunny plus askin for thumbs up is just pathetic. And FYI its not religion but wasting money and resources on wars is slowing down technology, space exploration and general progress.
