Cann't help thinking of all those others who burnt out equally fast - Aprile Millo comes to mind - and wondering if they would have traded five or six years of glory for anything else. Who was it wrote "My candle burns at both it's ends, it will not last the night ..."
I agree totaly, But there are many singers like her, only that the opera star system doesnt help. Nobody is searching for charisma like this Elena Suliotis had. A dramatic singer (sopran or tenor) need a very carefull training and respect. It´s quite e holy voice and needs more attention.
But she is not a good actor. She sings the music with an incredible ambition, but as if did´t knew what is she singing about. No expression... she is standing there like a singer in the conservatory concert, But Tebaldi was not better in her stage presence.
She sings it with great ambition so that she overcomes very well all difficulties perfectly. Bravissimaaaaaa.... But I don´t understand what happened to her. Why has she lost her voice? I think it s the same problem that meny soprano had: depression, insecurity in the star system is fatal... But its a pity because there are not many singer like her! What a perfetionist...!!!!
Elene Souliotis is one of my favorite a real Verdi spinto shame that far too many Abigailles in "Nabucco" in her early 20's ruined her voice for ever.

She is dramatically more credible, and (at least in this duet) the top is more secure than Tebaldi's, who even a few years before 1958 struggled somehow with the high B's natural
Please, I advise him that it goes consultation of a doctor of the ear. The quality of the song of Tebaldi cannot be compared with the song amateur of Souliotis
Just in Forza, there are around 5 live Tebaldi Forza tapes and Renata high B's natural are perfect in every performances, '53 Florence, '55 Milano, '56 Florence, '58 Naples and '60 New York.
On '58 Naples filmed Forza all Tebaldi Bs are glorious
Tebaldi's 58 production at San Carlo is available on video. Over all, Tebaldi is better ---- especially with great legato, phrasing and better acting. However, Souliotis is better than Tebaldi in some aspects, like securer high notes, and especially rhythmic forwardness. (Tebaldi tends to flat high notes and drag the rhythm.) After all, isn't this Souliotis's debut on the role, which she probably learned in a month? By 58, Tebaldi sang Leonora many times. Of course, Tebaldi knew the role better.
Is not anywhere “La Vergine degli Angeli” with Souliotis?
Thank you.

Bellissima voce, molto teatrale, coraggiosa e davvero emozionante.
Non sono daccordo con chi dice che "imitasse" la Callas....anzi....la voce è di livello è di bellezza decisamente superiore.
Peccato questa brevissima carriera.....

The San Carlo costume designer never got Guardiano's beard right - this one is even funnier than Christoff's cotton artwork.
I've heard much better singing, but Souliotis (who is shockingly static on stage) and Vinco (no one's favourite bass) are decent.

Too soon was her voice worn and her presence taken from us. Rest peacefully, Kuria Elena.

Credo che come la Souliotis non ce ne siano altre! E' divina, eccezionale, inimitabile!

Che famiglia quella di Ivo Vinco, lui un basso eccionale, la moglie un Dio di mezzosoprano! Complimenti davvero!
Che Souliotis!! Incantevole, divina!

Indeed the interest of this video consists in the gorgeous voice of Mr. Vinco! Wonderful! (even if this is really bad acting from both sides...)

Great stuff. Not quite as good as Tebaldi & Christoff in the same production.

I actually find here Souliotis much more effective than Tebaldi in the same production 8 years earlier IMHO....

xafnndapp: Suliotis voice is lighter than Tebaldi. She is fine here in 1966 but dramatically more credible than Tebaldi as Leonora ? Definitely No.
