I think this specific recording was done by only Bill Medley... Still a beautiful piece of music, but, sadly, not quite the same. Originally they were just Medley and Hatfield, but they sent out demos to a bunch of radio stations. This black DJ heard them and assumed they were black. After playing the song he supposedly said, "that's righteous, brothers." They heard it and decided to make that their professional name.
Again, don't know if it's true. But it's a great story.
