The soundtrack's liner notes officially state that this was a tribute to Hideki Naganuma and his music for the similarly conceptual video game Jet Set Radio, hence the reference to "Hummin' the Bassline" in both the composition and the name of the track.
@stopwatchrewind I don't think so. I've not seen the show either but the artist is Stank.funk and unless Hideki Nakanuma (composer for JSR) changed his name, it's a different composer. A friend told me that the entire show is like JSR though, so with that being said, they probably told the composer to make songs that sound a lot like songs off that game.
@stopwatchrewind Oh, Hideki Nakanuma also made the music for Sonic Rush. Check out those songs as well. They're pretty good. Some good ones are What U Need, Jeh Jeh Rocket, and Brand New Day.
@stopwatchrewind Yes. It was pretty cool... Oh, Hideki Nakanuma is at Anime Central this weekend. I was there on Friday, but sadly I didn't get to stay to see him.
this entire series reeked of JGR influence, which is why i loved it so much! without the producer even mentioning, i could tell that this anime was pretty much what you would get if you made JGR into an anime
jet grind radio, or some just call it jet set radio lol it was a highly stylized rollerblading/graffiti game for dreamcast, and was just as remembered for its soundtrack as it is for its innovative visuals. hope that helps lol
@kbaptiste28 the sequal came out on xbox when sega went bankrupt and the dreamcast went under ( thats when sega started putting thier games out on other consoles.)
This song goes so sick with the background on the vid. I know all of the ones are the same but this song goes with it!! Freakan Ikki's new song (in my head)
They use it when it goes to a commercial and comes back. You can hear that girl go "Hey Come on!" but its brief and you only hear mild techno before she says it.

@Dreamcube017 Aw, yeah. What U Need sounds a lot like Let Mom Sleep from Jet Grind Radio. Same composer, no doubt!

It sounds like "Humming the Bassline" from Jet Grind Radio. I guess that's why it's call "Not HUMMING but Vibin"

This makes a relation to JSRF's Humming the Bassline. JSRF is also about rollerblading. I wonder. Hmm..
