I had the distinct honor of attending the ISKF Master Camp this past weekend (June 10th through 12th), and taking a master class with sensei Miura. What an experience. He's in his seventies, he's maybe five foot two, he might weigh 110 soaking wet...and he just owned everyone he faced. He would demonstrate a simple block and combine it with a joint lock, and when he corrected your form by showing you the correct way to do it, his technique was extraordinary. This man is an artist.
i did the ex at 1 02 with the master in a stage training a few years back in Romania ... the old master is still lightning fast and his arms are like baseball bats ... i was very impressed by him and the respect he commanded ... a large gym with 200 strong was dead silent when he spoke
wat the whole piont in karate its both expensive and weird with all the yelling and it takes almost 4 years to master a amazing move and thats over 1000 dollars down the toilet wonder when r people r going to just learn 2 do regular things like regular people sich
@chaosbeast43 I dunno where you're going, man, but at my club, $1000 is going to buy you almost five years worth of classes. Doesn't need to be expensive at all.
There are 3 martial arts classes near me, Shotokan Karate, Ju Jitsu and Wado Ryu. Which would be most beneficial for a fun way to keep fit as well as good self defence. I liked the look of the Shotokan Karate, but watching this video isn't really inspiring confidence in that decision. Is this good self defence or is it all for show?
i study both jujutsu and shotokan and i have to say that i like them both ...no one can tell you what school to follow in order to become a good fighter ,that depends on you ,all martial arts are good ,get a little more research done and make your pick ;)
all i can tell you is a short rundown of what each style gives you for your own type of body. shotokan karate is more bouncy and explosive, so if your a bigger fellow, its really not the best pick for you, although it can still be benneficial. ju jitsu is more of an in your face kinda smash and toss art, if your timid it may not be your art, unless you'd like to be more confedent. and from what i know of wado ryu, its more about being tough and strong... so if your not into that...
ide sudgest you be more humble and dont throw around your title like that. it makes you seem really conceited. i agree with you on everything else though.
Hey, you're right. I don't mean to be sound arrogant or anything about my rank (arrogance isn't even in my dictionary). I'm just proud of it. The comment does make it sound a little "I'm so good" so I have removed it. Thanks for your comment.
Masaru Miura is one of the big Shotokan master's in the world. He's power, he's speed, he's precision and he's pace are an example for all us. Shotokan isn't violence, isn't fear, isn't hate...
Shotokan is pace, is filosophy, is a phisical and mental training.
nidan is just the japanese term for second dan genius. if your going to correct someone at least know what your talking about. thats like telling someone that its not round house kick, its mawashi geri.
im sorry if i seemed mean or anything, i just dont like when people try to start a fight, and end up saying things that really dont have any effect. i know what you meant, but anybody whos been in martial arts for a long enough period of time would know what someone means when they say second degree. my sensei is 4th dan and he still says degree. its all about how traditional you are. some people say tomato, some say tomahto.
Typical of the best produced by the JKA, SKI, JKSR etc. These people know of a training discipline few can fathom and they do so for life rather than seasonal or until they see something more flashy. Very few westerners ever reach this level and the so called American versions have no chance at all. Traditional training has no peer be it judo, karate, kendo etc.

Try them all out, or watch the classes, then decide. Speak with the instructers if you have to.

Brayden, Nidan is indeedn 2nd dan as you specify... but "Second degree black belt" doesn't mean anything... and that is what I was correcting ;)
