their is no meaning to do so basic stuff with ae when you can very easly do it with vegas ofcurse when we go to special & 3d effects well that's an other story lol you have to use AE if you want awesome results that doesn't mean that's imposible to do with vegas thou..........

Nice,man. covers the basics. one WARNING TO EVERYONE

MAKE SURE to Save your work in every 5 mintues or if it's a really really important project, save every 1 mintue. trust me, when after effects crashes and last time you saved was 1 hour ago, you'll lose 1 hour of work. Plus in my opinion, making an amv in after effects takes longer than in normal program like vegas but can do things that are really cool that vegas can't do. so you don't wanna loes any work.

Ah, ok, thanks for the reply :) I make all my AMVs within "Vegas Pro 9.0" it has some nifty effects, but it's nothin compared to AE at the moment :P I usually come up with my own transitions and combine effects to get them to look original in some way, your's seem to be badass and original no matter how you use them, then again I study your AMV's for fluidity and not for similarity. :3

First, make sure the audio switch on the time control panel is turned on. Audio will only play in after effects during the RAM preview (hit "0" on keypad); it can also be played in realtime by pressing the period key but this will only play the audio file by itself. Also, it's better to use wav files than mp3 files because mp3s can sometimes become problematic in AE. For more info, visit andrew kramer's video copilot site/blog- it's really helpful if you're looking for tutorials like this! :)

This is a really awesome tutorial but in my opinion Adobe After Effects is just that, an "effects" program.

I believe for the more raw editing it would be a GREAT deal easier to use a non-linear program such as Sony Vegas, as that is what it's made for. However, I know everyone has their own preferences. Once again, good job ^_^

@StarRoseAngelic I use both, Sony vegas for cut and paste/ finding clips you need.

render the clips I want for that project and put it in AE do the effects then put them back in SV. It works great. Just keep all the files organised.
