Place the bird on a soft surface, come over the top with one hand and gently place your thumb on on side of the mandible and the index finger on the other side.( as if your pulling a pickle out of a jar) This will provide you with much more control of the head/beak and allow you to easily guide the tip of the syringe into the beak , minimizing spillage.
Go to your pharmacist & ask for a small syringe (usually free)If you don't have professional bird pablum, use whole grain childrens' pablum. Make it a liquidy porridge that can easily squeeze through the syringe. Make sure it's tepid/hot, NOT hot/hot.

i have 6 lovebirds...i need males tho lol.
I have a seagreen female with a violet Single DF maleand they had the babies.
i have 2 cinnamon females, sisters , a dark olive green WF and a orangeface normal green...dang they are CUTE lol.

your the kind of hand feeder that these birds need. Lots of love and patience...
as for the comment about going from the right side... Power feeders have to aim directly to the right side so that they don't aspirate the baby...
this hand feeder is going so slow, that it isnt a problem..
