Have to agree with F111...An airport like that which controls jets would most likely have a person in the tower to direct same!

If one jet like we saw in the vid came that close then the controller would have hell to pay!

Even with light (GA) aircraft I learned to fly in the 2nd busiest aerodrome in our country and have seen a similar thing there with piston aircraft.

The one that went onto the active runway (without clearance!) was a student and the one landing more experienced...

This is VERY common. Happens where there is no ATC. A lot of times the pilot on the ground forgets to hit the transponder on the ground to mark a busy runway.

The Term is Position and Hold the three holy words from the Tower, before you can put a plane in position on the runway. You can not have a plane cleared to land. At least here in the states. The Controller should be violated big time and the pilot as well for bringing it in as close as he did with out initiating a Missed Approach.

Its actually more likely the air traffic controllers fault for letting an aircraft enter the runway while an aircraft was cleared for landing, or clearing an aircraft for landing before the lined up aircraft was airborne and clear of the runway.

Regarding the term "near miss" the word "near" is the adjective to describe the degree of the noun "miss". "Miss" here is also the subject. So a "near miss" describes the narrow degree of the miss. The near miss is the much closer to impact than a far miss.

Scale the sizes of the Tornados at there closest to contact point and the GR.1 is fractionally larger which tells us it's closer but by a very small margin.

I know jets take off and land in close proximity but I would always say that this was a near miss.

The pilot on the approaching plane was cleared to High Overshoot only. He bust his clearance because a simulated emergency with on of the engines meant he couldn't spool it up quickly enough.

There is no such clearance (at least for civilians). Also note that the approaching craft had it's gear down. He was fully intending to land. It's impossible to tell who messed up without more facts.

I know it's a strange clearance, but it exists. Certainly for military aircraft. And you're right, there were a number of other factors, including the fact that both the controller and pilot should have realised that he couldn't accept that clearance on an asymetric approach. Still, all's well that ends well!

there is no way he had clearence to taxi to the runway, becaue even if the other pilot missed the approch he had to go around giving plenty of time for the other pilot to take off. Isntead he stayed in the runway and he probably did not have clearence to taxi to runway.. And that was close. Go 175Knots in your car and do a sharp turn; see what happen and if able tell us.

That was very close at that speed, and you don't do stuff like that for fun. The aircraft running up on the threshold was cleared to taxi to the runway in use. The other aircraft was cleared for the approach and went missed, although maybe a little later than he should have, but then again a small flat grey jet may be hard to see on the runway. The near miss could have been due to an improper taxi, an approach to the wrong runway, or an oversight on the part of the controller.
