  • yous so pretty your hair is the closest I've seen to mine. I want to try this so bad!

  • I want these so bad!!!! I love it!

  • Those are gorgeous!!! love them!!!

  • Hi, just came across your video, realy nice! do they end up lookin like locs later on?

  • I have a (maybe) silly question. Does the yarn allow your hair to stay moisturized as it is made from an absorbent material?

  • i want to do my hair like that so badly i might just have to settle for kinky twist and then yarn braids in January for vogue knitting live here in ny what better place to were yarn braids among a bunch of yarn lovers like me

  • i LOVE how thick they are! they look amazing!

  • That was cool and they look simple to do! Thanks for that video!!!

  • Can you do a bun tutorial and hair styles you wear with them? 💗💜💗 :)

  • can they get wet?

  • @xGOLDn how do you get your yarn braids to be so thick looking? Do you just use more hair for each braid?

  • Could you tell us the type of yarn u used in the description box plz??

  • i love that these are pretty thick. my hair is almost mid back length and doing them small would take FOREVER. i think this size a larger may work for me. thanks :)

  • were they heavy at all?

  • Did you just go to like a fabric store or something to buy your yarn??

  • Dont you find that the burnt ends get caught on and pull your clothes?

  • @lebluv3 Not at all, but I don't wear much cotton or knits on a regular basis. I could definitely see that problem occuring for one who wears knited sweaters/scarves or anything with a fuzz

  • I meant how many packs of yarn did you use...touch screens are a beast.

  • @tabbykat329 It doesn't come in packs, I bought a large roll of yarn and cut the strings myself and used about half of the roll.

  • How many packs of yarn dd you use

  • You have inspired me to do my yarn braids. Just wondering if yours changed color when you burnt the ends??

  • there beautiful

  • i get the feeling that arn wou;d attract a lot of lint. i could be wrong though. am i?

  • @ILoveToScrub Haven't attracted much lint at all

  • @xGOLDn really? well that's very good cause i would like to give them a try but I was worried about that.

did you get any special brand/type of yarn?

    thanks

  • you look gorgeous!

  • I started mine yesterday, im doin black and some red streaks. love them in your hair so I know ill love them

  • Anyone interested in doing this only con is the dry time. Just a suggestion when washing genie locs use an absorbent towel you can kind them in the cleaning section or in auto store. It sucks up all the water or just liquid in general. Cuts your drying time down.

  • OK, I'M DOING THESE...I'M GOING TO TAKE VACAY TIME FROM WORK TO DO THIS

  • How many rolls of yarn did you use to do that length ?

  • Looks nice, I would have loved to get to see this in person to see if it looks exactly as on the camera. It's looks like locks & i have always wanted to try. Well done!

  • It is so pretty! That is exactly the same protective style i want to go for! thank you for sharing :)

  • Omg I haven't seen yarn braids in years. I thought only people down south wore them.

  • i love itt .. now i wanna try ! lol

  • Woman, those braids are so beautiful!!! I really want to know what I would look like with locs. I have to try this! Are you going to do a video on the maintenance??

  • I have been contemplating on doing mine this past week. And you encouraged me to start on them tomorrow. You are too lovely!

  • I really like it, very pretty :-)

  • @fatimama7 thank you

  • I did a braid just to see if i can do them and I but I am so scared that Im gonna freak out because of how long its gonna take me, I have fybromyalgia and my muscles ache and I just dont know if I should try or not. I really love the look.

  • @maxxnout It is definitely a time consuming style, I'd recommend asking a family memeber or sweet friend to help ;)

  • @maxxnout maybe you should get someone to do them for you

  • me n my bestie jus put these in lol

  • @StephysWay photo's! I wanna see

  • Hey girl <3

  • Its always good to have tutorials like this online. Saves other people time and money! Thank u :)

  • @Maqtastic Yes! You're welcome

  • Good job. It looks so simple. I like how the hairs are already clumped together so you don't have random strands to fight with.

  • @AYPPYT yep! It really is simple, just time consuming

  • Where can I get the yarn? Is it yarn that u knit wit?

  • @cocofine22 Yes, the same kind of yarn you'd knit with. Redheart from Walmart

  • i can't wait to see the finished result !

  • Looking at this vid I must say you'll look good with locs

  • @LuciousC I love locs, I'm just afraid! :/ :)

  • @xGOLDn dont beee!!!!! im 2 yrs natural and 7 months loc'd n im lovinggg it!!! u can always comb them out contrary to pop belief!!

  • I must admit iam not to keen on genie locs, they remind me too much of the preditor, however these look really cute on u.

  • 2 questions...so that us regular yarn from the craft store and how long with you leave them in??? They are fab though!!!

  • verrry cute. you only used one bundle of yarn?

  • does your hair get tangled in with the yarn after having them in for a while?

  • Those came out really nice!!!

  • Brosia, your hair came out super cute!!! You are rockin' them, lol. I've been wearing my yarn braids for about 3 weeks now, they are shoulder length. I only have one row of the 3-strand method because I wasn't too sure how my in between-twa-length hair wud react to the weight of them, so I just did the 2-strand method all over. I really like them, and they're are so much easier and faster to do!!!

  • @JuliesHairFetish

The yarn actually doesn't, It's 100% acrylic. It actually keeps moisture in your hair as long as you moisturize before doing the braids. You can also wash ur hair, deep condition, etc. and basically keep your regular routine!! =)

  • very nice

  • those are so cute but i dont have the patience to do them lol

  • The first time I did them they were heavy, but then I reduced the amount of yarn to two strands folded and they were very light. I washed and conditioned my hair every 8 days and sprayed every day with with water and sealed the moisture in. My hair grew so much.

  • That looks beautiful and Im gonna get my niece to do mine.

  • They look great!!!

  • Beautiful! Tempted to try it now

  • @Sofeirce me to lol and I already have yarn.

  • Not sure if anyone has asked this yet or not, but does the yarn absorb the moisture from your hair? I know you moisturized before - but once you take them down, will you give us an update on how your hair felt afterwards?? Thanks!

  • Wow! those things DRY ur hair out extremely bad. Keep us updated Good luck!

  • how many strings of yarn do you use?

  • @lyndslaferg please read the description box

  • Brosia, I have been wearing the genie Locs for a month and mine aren't near as long as yours, how do you stand the weight? I find then so heavy that I am still piling them on top of my head for relief. maybe I'm just to tender headed. I started wearing them because its a good protective style and I workout 6 days a week and don't have to worry about my hair.

  • @mia310 They are very heave. I'm not tender headed at all, but by the end of the day if I've been wearing my hair down all day they end up at the top of my head

  • I like that your genie locs have a long-layered look. Cute.

  • @NapturalJas thank you

  • I want to do this so bad but damn if I can't get the technique of how to put them in!

  • These look great on you! I bet ur saving so much money doing it urself versus letting someone do it! Wish I had the patience lol

  • @stoneridgeway I don't like other people doing my hair. And I hear people charge around $150 for them

  • U may have saw my tut . This is the easy way. They look good

  • is this meant to look like dreads? it looks soooooo goooood ! =)

  • @star1trina.. She been wearing it in a high pony bun

  • those are really nice:-)

  • So I am curious how you have been wearing your hair to work? lol

  • @star1trina I've been wearing them down, and a few times in a high bun.

  • @ILoveRoSinaRay Thank you ro!

  • I loved this style when I had it. I also did it myself, with my moms help. lol I may revisit too! Its a very cute, affordable, protective style! Your hair looks great. Are you going to post a video of how you style them?

  • those look pretty. wow...you've been working on them for a week? when i do braids with extensions, i have to finish them in one day. i cant spend more than two days doing braids with extensions. the single braids i have in now, which i'm taking out soon, took me a day and five hours the next day. lol. you're really good at doing your hair.

  • @afrikahchick Yes, same here but I work so much so I definitely don't have 5hrs in a day to spare for my hair, thank you gal! I feel a bit of an arm muscle growing ahaha

  • There you go again! Do you ever screw up your hair or an outfit? Doesn't seem like it's possible lol

  • @AlexisN1203 lolll! aweee

  • That look soo good on you!!!! WORK IT!!

  • Does the cotton cause over drying of the hair?

  • @kahleentenshi Cotton soaks up moisture, so moisturizing daily/nightly is a must

  • @xGOLDn Thanks for info! You rock!

  • @kahleentenshi Typically people use acrylic yarn which is not a natural fiber and does not over dry the hair. It is a very smart practice to moisturize often though. I have had yarn braids on several occasions and NEVER had moisture retention issues i have actually experienced the opposite.

    -Hope i helped.

  • nice!!! two questions? how many bundles of yarn did you use? And is the yarn damaging to you hair?

  • @laabellaz Just 1 bundle. And my assumption is since the yarn does soak up quite a bit of moisture, as long as you're keeping your hair well moisturized it shouldn't cause any damage. But this is my first time doing them I cant really say. If that happens I'll just bc and do a fade ahahaa!

  • @xGOLDn wow just one bundle! thats awesome! must of been the super big size. I just took my twist out and looking for a new style. So I will def be giving this a try and its super cheap! thanks for the tip! And Ive always said the same thing, if damaged Im doing a fade. lol

  • @xk3nq33 Yes, I always do my own hair, I cant allow anyone else to do it because if I don't like something then I get angry. Also, I don't do TIGHT braids/pain.. I will take them down. So This is a $3 look, literally. Can you really beat that? Go for it girl, work your arm muscles

  • nice I got 2 rows done on my head the gave up lol Im a slow braider but yours r cute I like the size

  • @fitzgottawin I'm quite slow at it too :/ have fun with that! lol

  • Aaaahh LOVE this!! I'm a new natural and I've been searching for a good protective style to rock for my first winter [=

  • This is AMAZING....I am going to do this as soon as I have a chance. Sorry if this sounds retarded, but is there a special type of yarn that you use to do yarn braids??? Anyone know?

  • @Storybook18

    red heart yarn from walmart

  • @Storybook18 Redheart

  • those are pretty:) are you still in school?

  • cool you can do it yourself im getting a protective style this month i plan to get sum long neat single braids

  • I love the genie locs on you. I'm thinking of trying them since I'm too chicken to lock my hair up.

  • @BougiePeople Thank you! They're so effortless and chic.

  • Thanks for this, this maybe my next protective styles, I'm on a challenge! Can you do a video on the maintenance. How long would you leave it in?

  • I love it! I'm going to do this as my protective style this winter!!

  • Love it! These look great on you!! I have two rolls of yarn and planned on doing genie locs over the summer but i was scared for some reason, lol. I'll work up the nerve by next summer!

  • @MusicLova84 Thanks doll, don't be scared. The only thing you have to worry about is moisturizing, at this point I am moisturizing daily. With a mix of teatree oil and water in a spray bottle and I also rub Olive Oil hair pudding on the locs where my hair is braided in

  • Lol, we both did the same protective style! Great minds think alike, lol. Mine took about four days (I'm busy too). I wish mine were a little longer but this was my first time. This is a great look on you! :)

  • @MyKeturah thank you! After finishing mine I said man, I wish I did mine about 2-3 inches longer. But the length that I have now will do. They can get quite heavy but I will definitely be nice and warm this f/w
