This is by far my favorite movie of all time! If you're able to look at this movie without political bias than its a much better film than Traffic. The acting was 10 times better and the directing even managed to be better.

I like this film - it shows sad and bitter truth in our political life. George Clooney always showed one and the same typical acting but Finally he looked great and not monotonous. But I still think that he didn't deserve the Oscar - just because he showed nice serious acting (for the first time by the way) doesn't mean that they should give him the Oscar. @tccs319 i saw the movie and yes, it does have a lot of handcamera shots and the image is croped a bit too much (this was definitelly shot on Super35). But all the visual style is never "style over substance" because you mostly never notice due to the amazing performance of the cast.
I personally like the older "non-videocamera" works of Michael Mann better than his recent works.. by the way, Syriana was directed by Stephen Gaghan who also wrote the script, based on the novel by Robert Baer.

I like this film - it shows sad and bitter truth in our political life. George Clooney always showed one and the same typical acting but Finally he looked great and not monotonous. But I still think that he didn't deserve the Oscar - just because he showed nice serious acting (for the first time by the way) doesn't mean that they should give him the Oscar. Academics and critics are as corrupted as politicians. Sad, very sad but I still love this film very much

Haha,YES! Myname is Syriana. But I spell it Seiriana.It's a Swedish name, Siri.But my mother spelled it Seiri and added ana on to it. It's pronouced as Anna not Ona But my teachers could never get it right,so they alwayssaid it as Ona. I guess I got used to it, and was REALLYhappy when the movie came out.My brothers name is Jericho, so we both have a movie named after us :) And my other brothers names are Jake and Jonas. Jonas is a common name in books as well as movies. I love my name :)

@tccs319 i saw the movie and yes, it does have a lot of handcamera shots and the image is croped a bit too much (this was definitelly shot on Super35). But all the visual style is never "style over substance" because you mostly never notice due to the amazing performance of the cast.
I personally like the older "non-videocamera" works of Michael Mann better than his recent works.. by the way, Syriana was directed by Stephen Gaghan who also wrote the script, based on the novel by Robert Baer.

This movie is amazing All the oil politics going on in middle east and how CIA uses Hizbullah and all for its purposes..... Fucking great movie ....... How America is controlling all the world's economy and all these wars at Iraq and Afghanistan are only for oil not some war on terror..... No wonder movie is not a hit in USA.... the US did aid saddam, but covertly aided iran as well, hoping they would both achieve pyrrhic victories. there is no evidence that any US agent made contact with bin laden while trying to undermine the soviets. while the war in iraq was debatable, your reasons aren't up to par. guess which country got the biggest contract rights to drill for iraqi oil: CHINA. as for afghanistan, there arent many resources there to take, other than opium, but they do want to build a pipeline through it
