  • A bass made by one of the best and most knowledgeable luthiers in the world, plus a most sensitive musician. Winner combo.

  • how the hell does heknow how to play without frets

  • Very nice! But you both need a few more strings to sound as the original. Wait! Sting composed this on two strings. Weird...

  • Fretless bass....skill man. This is awesome.

  • the fretless guy is shit!

  • His shit is fretless. Too good.

  • As a fellow bass player i must say pure genius and fuck you if you think tis blows and you have even touched an instrument you dont even know what sound is (and fuck you again if you play bass and dont know who steve harris is)

  • every bath you take?

  • Can you imagine Sir Paul playing that monster?

  • what would you tune it too :S

  • JEAN QUIT SCREWING AROUND AND GET NUCLEAR RABBIT BACK TOGETHER!

  • dear santa.......

  • Every bass player creates his own style as Yves and Jean Baudin. The ERB basses are very good basses. But some people consider that ERBs aren't included in bass guitar family. I think they're fucking wrong. Sorry for my crappy english.

  • You need a third giant bass to play the goddamned melody now

  • @steve22x "giant bass" lmao too funny dude.. thats what they look like to me too lol

  • Haven't these people ever heard of OCTAVE PEDALS???

  • @hardinmichael1981 Any one who has ever played through an octave pedal will readily tell you that they don't track the note very well and they often break up as the note decays. They are very erratic.

  • @hardinmichael1981 octave pedals suck... Well, not every pedal, but it's cooler to play these monster than hitting a button (dunno the prog form of to hit, sry) to play in the right octave.

  • @hardinmichael1981 I agree with the two guys who replied to this comment. They do suck, at least the Boss Octave pedals do. Their digital pitch shifter does better with creating octaves. Plus, Jean and Yves are going for a different kind of arrangement. Octaves are usually used for lead parts, and I don't think Yves wanted an Octave pedal sound. Jean either. That would give Jean's bass a 12-string guitar sound. And they're already playing 12-string basses. What more do you want?

  • malati di basso

  • Lol, the guy with the green shirt in the window looks quite retarded... Perhaps I should focus on the composition ^^

  • Is the guy whit the red shirt getting hurted while playing? He does strange faces.

  • For classic and new bass players, jaco don't need to go out the 4 strings, he stuck in the groove, he didn't need to cover the higher voices of the chords (in fact he did with the armonics stuff), the matter is that for that purpose he used to play piano, so he never would pick up a 6 string, neither much less a 5 string. Most of the great bass players didn't like the sound of a low B, because they consider that it belongs to piano, many others love it. Think it this way, it's sound.

  • @cacapatin Actually Jaco had a 5 string custom acoustic bass built for him with a high C! But yes, you're right. Anyway, Jaco didn't need more than four... but why would we want to be Jaco?

  • @BassGrindcore yes you did the right question. I wrote about jaco because here people were talking about him, but i could tip someone else. The fact is the realationship between the instrument, the texture and the music. The musician has to look how to make sound an instrument, not the opposite. Playing a 6sting is not like playing a guitar more uncomfortable, i play that kind of basses because i need to change the register along a song, in my band, in my music. i play bass

  • @cacapatin I know, I play an ERB too (7 string, but I'd like an 8...) and I play bass and sing in my band, I hope you didn't take it as an offense. I think the instrument should suit the player, not the other way around, with a 4 string I'm limited to express myself musically. An ERB is the tool I need to make MY music,, I think that is the main reason of us using ERBs ;)

  • @BassGrindcore no ofense at all, we are talking about the same thing. Sadly, oftenly people think that erbs are shit or are the best for such an idiot reasons.

  • it's very simple, i'm gonna explain it for guitarrists and conservative people. Most of ERB players (6 or more strings), usually play alone and they have to extend the armony range to cover a higher spectrum. They play the bass, the chords, the arpeggios, the solos, everything, ... .

  • im going to winter namm 2011 whooooo!!!! ill probably put videos up but im not promising anything

  • 666 likes 66 dislikes hahahaha!!

  • i just know that i couldn't play any fretless bass over 5 strings. i think the most strings i will ever go is 7 and thats just for messing around

  • Where can I get one of those basses?

  • @JohnnyLeeW1 drozd

  • @JohnnyLeeW1 at jerzy drozd basses in barcelona/spain

  • @JohnnyLeeW1 Custom Build. Looking at approx. $12000

  • Amazing

  • bass pl;ayers are so intense,I play bass i can stop one a mile away :P

  • indulgent rubbish what a load of cock n nonsense

  • whats all this "more strings equals more notes" bullshit ? theres only 12 notes. more stings equal the same notes over and over again just in different pitches. you can play all of this on a 4 string bass... you would just have to move the shit out of ur fingers :O) great playing btw

  • Comment removed

  • @bombsawayd actually these basses goes more than an octave lower than a 4 string bass, and many octaves higher too. a 12 string has more range than a piano.

  • @bombsawayd You're not a musician ? You just learned a bit in school (means: nothing),

    isn't it ?

  • @FrancescoGuardi i have no idea what that meant. are you asking if im a musician? or telling me im not? i didnt learn any music in school. yes it is? i have no idea lol

  • @bombsawayd To say there are only 12 notes is simply bullshit. Theres 's a difference between the notes C and c - for example. To be exact :you can find 88 keys on a piano, so you can play 88 different notes and each one has its own name. An 11-string-bass with 24 frets tuned in forth offers 75 notes( no matter if you need it, that's another question) .A 4-string with 24 frets offers 40 notes.Maybe you can extend it by playing harmonics or use a Hipshot D-tuner like M.Manring...

  • @bombsawayd there's a massive difference between C0 and C8.

  • everyone knows, the more string you have the better you play and the bigger your penis is duh!

  • @cjrizzle93 LMFAO !! Great comment !!!

  • thanks.

  • Skateboards with strings??

  • Those basses looks ridiculous.

  • Preferisco molto il mio basso a 4 corde

  • @90tinoli concordo

  • @90tinoli infatti.. a sto punto potrebbero suonare una chitarra soprattutto quello che fa il solista

  • Can someone say....COLLABORATION? :D haha

  • if ya wanna here an 8 string bass playing metal check out Cripple Mr Onion!!!

  • @squareeeyeezz Jan Erik Tiwaz. Check him out. Fretless bass with 9 strings.

  • dovete morire...tutti!

  • dude, think about the lbs. of tension there are in that room on those basses x D

  • @thtmusicloser if that neck snaps the player is catapulted to the moon

  • @ADOPTmeBITCH LOL !!

  • @ADOPTmeBITCH I had a good laugh at this. xD

  • wow looks like their having fun...

  • beautiful song + beautiful instruments = immesurable awesomeness. Jean and Yves KEEP IT UP! Bass forever!

  • Check it out my channel, Guitars videos.

  • Play a blues...lmao!

  • the bass on the left is soooooo nice

  • the number of strings on a bass is like the number of colours in a painter's palette; some choose to depict the elegant simplicity of black and white, which others may choose to create paintings bursting with colours, it's all a matter of personal preference and the intention of the artist.

can you convincingly argue wooten vs baudin as anything other than a matter of personal taste? it's pretty much impossible.

  • @ArcReforged True it's down to personal taste . My taste is Wooten EVERY time . Can any either of these two actually play in a band and hold it down ?

  • @Glen694u Are you really asking if they can hold the weight of a band as bassists?! Listen to Nuclear Rabbit or Element Of Surprise, Jean Baudin's bands. From Yves, I prefer his solo work, and his piece "Holy Spirit" is the BEST bass composition for me. And I'm a extended range bassist.

  • Why you arent try just to enjoy on music... Cheers!

  • no one will like you in his band with a instrument like that, just to show of...

  • Stil doesn´t look like basses, no matter how hard i look.... 4-string all the way baby :D

  • uuuuuhhhmmmm....you know if many notes and like 7 octaves range blah blah blah is your thing, there's is this little thingy called a grand piano?dont get me wrong i dig and all but...why?come back to earth a little bit

  • nah to many strings... pointless. woudln´t realy call those basses

  • @EvenHummROCKS it is a bass the low tone should show you that the treble sound you here shows that they are basses and like look at them they obviouly are not electric guitars you can tell dude

  • yeah...an instrument with a low F# is definitely not a bass....... learn something about it before you leave a dumb comment.. those type of basses have extended ranges mainly made for finger tapping melodies along with harmonies...

  • wow...

carbonne got pitch like nobody's business!

  • @ArcReforged - He kills on ANY bass: 4, 6, 8, 10 & 12 string... fretted or fretless... the guy is a master. He's now being seen as #1 by the majority of listeners, and that will soon be the case across the board. His latest cd, A LIFE will blow you away. It's gotten rave reviews in several major bass magazines, and people are flipping out over it... it's just amazing. You can (and I suggest should) buy it on the Jadacoustix site.

  • respect

  • This is bad ass, both very talented gentlemen

  • Nice

  • it must be a pain in the ass to change the strings

  • @meanerbeaner2 its an even bigger pain paying for the strings, some of the thicker strings can cost up to $40 for a single string.

  • пиздец.....))

  • Lol Jean doesn't even play Jerzy Drozd and the one he's playing here isn't either XD

  • Heh heh heh... bass players will do anything to get SOME attention, even string up a 2 x 10 plank! LOL!!!!

  • haha! i dont blame them! us guitarist is always steeling the spotlight!

  • anyone know where to find a tab of the lead melody for this? the bit yves is playing at the start

  • yes it's called ear. use it to tab it.

  • hahaha poor quality sarcasm, love it

  • man i love this song ..... the bass looks kinda weird with 10 strings ....but what ...its sounds good :)

  • I really like my 10 string, but I always feel so self-conscience when I play in public. I feel like people are saying, "wow, what a freaking douche!" I have 6 extra strings that could be donated to my local orphanage! Where did I go wrong? Also, yes, these are a bitch to tune, to put it lightly.

  • Comment removed

  • Be proud! The day I got my 8 string was one of my proudest days :)

People asked me before "Why do you need 8 strings on your bass?" and I simply replied "Why do you need 4?"

Extended range bass is a whole new monster that is only beginning to be explored! The sooner we set up an online ensemble of extended range bassists the better!

  • @Gilleece666 It's the same thing with alternate tunings. "Why do you need to tune to C# standard? Why tune to E standard?"

  • I want one! :o

  • Must be a bitch to tune...

  • @freddy4940 Must be a bitch to restring

  • @misteriousj and must cost a fortune

  • @freddy4940 nope, a 12 string guitar takes longer. this is just straight fourths. You tune it in 15-30 seconds.

  • @geiroffenberg no 18 strings take long to tune xD, I have one made and designed by Jerzy Drozd himself, he also made the bass of the guy on the left. that's an Jerzy Drozd legend XII YC

  • @freddy4940 i;ll bet

  • love the melody but i cant stand to see how huge those guitars are

10 string bass allot huge ass frets lol :]

  • a bass is a guitar u retard, they are the same instrument on different scales

  • If you say so. Yves was playing alot of the melody with Baudin carrying the rhythm and in my opinion showed alot more emotion then Baudin.

  • those instraments must be heavy!!

  • I'm sensing a lot of jealousy from people who fear these beautiful instruments.

  • i would love to hear this as a recorded song from both of them

  • meeting of the monster bass guitar owners??? lol

  • Muito bom ,excelente,Maravilhoso.

  • call me conservative, but i absolutely dislike those freakish guitars, though i must admit that the players are very skilled

  • Totally agree. I personally think 6 string is the absolute limit. But even that is very far. My taste ends at 5. But 11? Hell no.

  • To say 5 is enough for a bass is like saying: kitchen and and children is enough for women - why education for them?

If your bass has got enough with 5 it's a statement about your music (which may be ok to me...) but not about the possibilities of this intstrument. I think, these monsters are the result of evolution since Jaco

  • Francesco: That's the most intelligent comment I've seen on here. Agreed.

  • Wow...thanks a lot! I play 8 strings and that's my limit because I don't know how to damp the unplayed strings on my selfmade 9-string, so it sounds sometimes like a piano when you push the right pedal. But this is the only problem...

  • @FrancescoGuardi thats not necessarily true tho i play in a metal band and even i know that those strings are too low and i dont need those high strings i would love to have one for my own enjoyment but that is not functional for most band playing settings

  • @FenderJbass64 Maybe you're right - it doesn't fit to the function of bass in a band. The more strings, the more solistic. I didn't see a (good) band with 7-string bass (or more) and there may be a reason for it. But should it be a reason to stop playing solo an 11-string-monster?? I don't think so...

  • @FrancescoGuardi oh, theres some extreme metal band out there where the bassist uses an 11 string. i forget what its called. but youre right, it would be very difficult to use this instrument in a band without neglecting at least SOMETHING. i still want one :P

  • @FenderJbass64 i was reading an interview of the bass player from system of a down... he said he uses 7 or more strings on some of their songs...

  • @FrancescoGuardi The only thing more strings gives you is more notes. The notes don't say that much about someone's music. Most people don't need that many octaves to make something great. There are many advantages to this instrument but that does not mean that 5 stringed basses are disadvantaged.

  • @chickenmanstan Agree - I never said 5 strings are to less to make good music.

Best example is Michael Manring - or maybe he is not, because he extents his range by Hipshot D-tuner and a second one on bridge... More notes is not more than more possibilities. And not less !

  • @FrancescoGuardi Good point man!

  • @FrancescoGuardi What's wrong with keeping women pregnant and in the kitchen ?

(this was written in the spirit of IRONY by the way ) ;)

  • @Glen694u Depends on the woman - would you feel fine with lady Gaga as mom prepairing your lunch ?

  • @FrancescoGuardi - Oooooooo yea yea yea - give it to me Ms Gaga .

She could do a striptease if she wore that 'meat' dress while she made some sandwiches using the meat as filler for them . MMMMm yummy .

  • @Glen694u Hmmm, alright, I see this is not the fitting example for what I try to say.

What about Barbara Bush in a meat-dress doing a striptease for you ?

  • @FrancescoGuardi I disagree, look at Les Claypool, he mainly uses a 4-string, and he's done so much stuff on that its mind-blowing. I've seen a few of these 11-string videos, its pretty much just either video game music, or guitar parts played on a bass. Its cool and all, but a bass is meant to be a bass, I'll be a fan of a guy who takes a 4 string and plays many different styles, as opposed to 11-strings and never going out of a comfort zone.

  • @Wizbang920 You're right - but this is not a contradiction to what I said. More strings are just more playable notes but not a better music. Of course there are excellent bassists on 4 string, no question.

  • @Wizbang920 of course they play guitar parts on an 11 string thats the point of an 11 string, itrs so you can play bas and guitar at the same time. you can't really look at an 11 string player as a bass player, you have to look at them more like a keyboard player. yes they can fill out the bass end of things but its just as much there job to fill out the highend.

and besides les claypool uses 6 string basses sometimes which can get as high as an octave below the highest note on a guitar.

  • @tucker441 Yes, he does, but he still uses those 6 strings in more ways than I've seen anybody use 11.

  • @Wizbang920 yeah, i Dunno though, I put baudin and claypool in the same category in my head. THey both have wonderfully inventive bass lines, thy just have different styles. baudin is uses more of a tapping heavey style where claypool prefers flemenco strumming and legato on his fretless. Honestly though I think the biggest difference between primus and nuclear rabbit is the vocals.

  • @FrancescoGuardi I agree but your making it seem like Jaco was the first bassist.

  • @AbaddonsAnimosity Well i think he means it as Jaco is considered teh "Liberator" of bass, the one who opened up bass an instrument, not just a backing thing, thats whay he is often compared to Jimi Hendrix, who brought the guitar forward and made it a lead instrument

  • @AbaddonsAnimosity So I'm misunderstood.I think AttitudeCastle said it more exactly.

  • @FrancescoGuardi Jaco Only NEEDED FOUR!

  • @hardinmichael1981 I don't think that a 6-, 7- or what else -string player n e e d s

more than 4 to play... I think it's only a personal decision to use the possibilities of more strings and leave the standard range of bass -or not to do. But - someone may ask what we could hear if Jaco made the decision to play 6 or more ??? Don't think there's only one good bassist who became a worse one by starting to play more than four -?

  • @FrancescoGuardi your right, i have a 7-string and a 4-string myself, and in my opinion the 7-string is just way more fun to play

  • @hardinmichael1981 Jaco had no other options.

  • I was half expecting one of them to pull out a bow and standing it up. lol. So much space between the huge strings.

  • I wish I could do that with a regular guitar, OMG my mind

  • whats the tuning on that 11 string monster?

  • What tuning isn't it in xD

  • Normally the 11 string basses are tuning in one of two ways..

Those are the 2 most usual seen 11 string tunes:

    C#F#BEADGCFBbEb or F#BEADGCFBbEbAb

  • most usual seen 11 string tuning... when did it become usual?

  • fuck you

  • Those guitars are from Poland :) Jerzy Drozd - ahh genius

  • Jean's isn't. It's a Ken Lawrence.

  • No.

Jean's bass (Ken Lawrence) is from America, and Yves's Bass (Jerzy Drozd) is from Spain!

    But, regardless. Genius!

  • Comment removed

  • omg the neck is almost bigger as the guitar itself

  • How the Fµ¢k do you guys can play this?

  • damn, i fucking love these guys

  • very good job man!

  • I love it when he hits the low F# and C#

    at the end.

  • nice but i think strings should be the max

  • wow, dude, sounds wicked, i want a 11 string.

  • wow, that's amazing. Sounds so fuckin' melodic. This one made me dreamin' :-)

  • Kid doesn't know shit about bass.

  • what like in the music video?

well the thing is, THAT WAS THE MUSIC VIDEO, THE INSTRUMENT DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING!

and even if it did mean anything that he was playing that bass in the video, its called an upright bass/contrabass/double bass, not a giant bass.
