  • It is possible to import one to the US. You just have to take it completely apart, ship to the US, rebuild it, and register it as a kit car.

If you're lucky a certain number of roadster made it to the US and you could check ebay, craigslist, or whatever to see if someone does not want theirs.

  • Seeing as I've never done this before, What does it mean when you say completely disassemble? I'm not asking jokingly, do you mean down to every nut and bolt including tearing down the engine?

  • From what I hear all you have to do I separate the engine and its components from the car and ship both the car and the engine in 2 different containers and put it together on shore.

  • I saw one for sale on Ebay for $9k. It was in California.

  • I'm sure it sold. Too bad the FEDS are cracking down so much on cars being registered as "kit" cars like they recently did with Skyliners in Cali.

  • I´m glad that Smart Roadster did sold in México :p

  • I'm getting a fortwo... I read the comment about the price in gas in europe THAT'S INSANE!

    3.75L=1gal

    $2.45=$9.18

    That's freaking inanity...

It's back down in the US though to 1.50/gal

But, that little car is too awesome to pass up.

But, I would definitely have bought a roadster if it was available.

  • maybe just maybe once they start building Smarts in the US, they might add the Roadster back into the mix again.

  • well is it coming?

  • One thing is for sure, Americans are really missing out on aa great car like the Roadster, when the oil and gas prices are rising, seems like the sky is the limit =/ One litre of 95 octane is 14 Kronors (2.5USD) in Sweden. Thats sick!

  • 87 octane is $4.00 US, 95 is easily $4.35 in central Florida. If you go to California, the prices are much closer to $5.00 per gallon. It is very much putting a strangle hold on the throats of people, especially those in lower income homes. Cars like this, that are affordable and economical should have been available 10 years ago in the US. Lets hope they are here within 1 or 2 years from US manufacturers.

  • bring it back and bring it to America!

  • It would be so amazing if Mercedes opened an assembly facility in the US or Canada... to 1 increase production and maybe 2) to kick the asses of the American automakers to rethink what they sell.

  • Im hunting for one as we speak, i havent got any deal worked out, but since Germany is so close to Sweden where i live, im thinking about import one due to the diffrence in price. Just need to get rid of my fuel consuming monster, Rover 75.

  • With gas prices going up X4 in recent years hear in the US, selling my gas gulping truck would be in vain. I think I'll keep it as a second vehicle, but the Smart will be my daily drive ... once it arrives. I'm on the list but my wait is until probably March 2009. Good luck on your find, keep me up on what you do decide to do.

  • Im getting the Roadster, and then im going to change the wheels to Brabus ones, and get alot of the Brabus after market parts, and color code the front and the back...ive got it all figured out in my head already! =)

  • how long before you get it, do you have the deal already worked out or are you hunting for one now? I hope that Brabus parts and service comes to the US very quickly with the Smarts.

Let me know when you get your Roadster... maybe take a vid or 2 of it.

  • love ths smart car....:D

  • Me too. I hope they reconsider production of the roadster style for the US market.

  • Im about to buy one =)

  • are you getting one of the Roadsters or a Fortwo?
