I found this on the net: "Originally Samuel Holland Rous (known as S. H. Dudley) formed a vocal quartet in 1896 to record for Edison's studios. After replacing the two tenor singers the quartet sang as the "Edison Quartet." The name Haydn Quartet was used to allow them to record elsewhere. The name Haydn was a homage to the classical composer; the spelling was later revised to Hayden, which reflects the way it was pronounced.
(...)Recording both a cappella and with some of the day's biggest solo stars, including Billy Murray and Corinne Morgan, they were one of the most successful acts of the century's first decade. They produced several American best-sellers, including perennial favorites Bring Back My Bonnie To Me (1901), Sunbonnet Sue (1908), and By The Light Of The Silvery Moon (1910).
hmmm, seems very likely, I need to pull this record back out and double check the spelling to see if they were using the revised spelling on this label. Thanks for the info! I'll post some more of these early Victors in the week hopefully.
Harry Macdonough is singing the vocal. He was the lead vocal on records by the Haydn Quartet. Also, the Haydn Quartet was known as the Edison Quartet when they recorded for Edison.
Heard this on Boardwalk Empire last week :D

I have discovered this version after the Nina Simone's one.
Thanks.

There is an excellent version of Nina Simone. In the "Live at Newport" record. You should listen the whole concert. Don't hesitate to buy it.

Not sure, this is a very early Victor (from some searches i get about 1912-1913) and all the artist is labeled as 'Haydn Quartet'
