With that being said I actually did not like the Movie and I thought is was politically correct and didnt really portray war and the harshness of the times. I saw this movie last night. The visual affects were INCREDIBLE but as far as telling an authentic war story it's borderline silly. In one scene the machine gun on the B-17 sounded just like a laser in the star wars movie lol. It's a typical Hollywood action flick tho, the Germans always miss and the Red Tails shoot down every plane the Luftwaffe puts up which is ok bc that's what audiences want. The story of the Tuskegee Airmen is incredible and this movie didn't do it justice honestly.

But as far as the laser gun sound, that is actually how those jets guns sounded.(According to veteran pilots) Thats actually part of why star wars made it sound like that. Star Wars has alot of WWII things in it, such as the storm troopers and the helmets. But yeah the movie was kinda of a let down for such a great movie.

The origina lNegroes were MUCH lighter skinned than the actors depicting them. Also - Tuskegee unit was 3 times less capable than an average squadron.

About 130 German pilots individually earned more air to air victories than the Tuskegee pilots COMBINED. Three of the top RAF pilots got more than the entire Tuskegee pilots.

@ThusSpakeDenise The Tuskegee pilots weren't interested in the kill ratios, they were more interested in protecting the bombers and wouldn't go chasing after the Luftwaffe planes that were to lure the escort away.

As far as the Luftwaffe pilots go yeah but many of their kills came from fighter inferior forces of France and Poland in the beginning of the war.

As for the RAF pilots many of them had been fighting the Luftwaffe years before the US Army Air Corps got involved.

Nearly 85% of all aerial kills the Luftwaffe scored were against inferior Russian pilots in horribly inferior Russian planes. The Germans were only shooting down 1 U.S. plane to every 40 Russians they shot down. If you subtract all Russian Kills Germany would have less then 2/3'rds the aces they have
