Goodyear must have come up with a better rain tire this year, cars were going much faster in similar conditions to last year.

I believe the Goodyear tyres used last year were quite a few years old which reduced the performance

Yeah, I think you're right. You can also add the fact that the Nationwide cars have slightly less horsepower this year, that's good for racing in the rain because the tires don't spin so much.
if i remember right the rain tires from 2008 were made in 2000 but i could be off be a year or so
