  • I was actually searching for laughing hyenas.

  • Larissa Strickland - fucking awesome guitarist.

  • I saw them at a small bar in Lexington, KY called Lynaghs years ago, Hell's Kitchen is my favorite song of theirs..John Brannon is awesome!!! Sad to read that the guitar player died of a drug overdose in'06. True, we won't hear another band of this magnitude EVER !! Definitely one-of-a-kind!

  • One of the most powerfull bands who never got the attention they deserved, they were unbelievable.

  • Made me cry... Makes me miss Larissa

I smoked crack and drank 40s with them in '91

  • I saw them at Maxwells in Hoboken NJ around '91, with Antiseen and Electric Nubians. I didnt know the guy from Negative Approach was the singer until a few days ago!

  • r.ip. larissa.wo-man she could play

  • This is so f*&king good. Brannon is the man...bands like this don''t exist anymore.

  • This band should have been huge...I mean HUGE.

I saw them in London and they blew the lead band off to the rubbish pile!

    Amazing band.

  • eeeew! sorry you nice people had to see the band when Todd Swalla played drums totally fucking up. Worst drummer EVER.

  • John Brannon has the best voice in rock.

    Its raw power.

Laughing Hyenas and Negative Approach were made legendary bands thanks to him

  • laughing hyenas was amazing because of Larissa don't get me wrong brannon rules but larissa made this band what it is.

  • I saw them at a show in NYC at the Ritz with Mudhoney and Sonic Youth. Laughing Hyenas stole the show.

  • there seems to be a theme here. the hyenas stole the stage, ive never seen anything like it. the crowd was SILENT until the end of the show, when brannon threw a deck of cards into the pit, then all hell broke loose. they just calmly walked off the stage, and didn't say a word. it was fucking surreal.

  • i was at that show too! it was '89 i believe shortly after sonic youth dropped daydream nation. probably...scratch that -- THE BEST live show i've ever witnessed. it was a total mindfuck. laughing hyenas were heavy as shit!

  • I saw Laughing Hyenas twice in 1988 or 1989, first at a small place in the basement of building in Willimantic, Conn. and few nights later at Green Street in Jamaica Plains, Mass. What a great, great band. My friend who was supposed tomeet me at Green Street never did and the band offered to let me crash with them at a friends house. Larissa slept in the van because she was allergic to cats. As far as I know, the never toured back through this way. Great people, great musicians. R.I.P Larissa.

  • i saw them live in kalamazoo michigan, it was quite possibly the best show i've ever seen. raw emotion on a level that is seldom, if ever, seen in music.

  • Word.

Saw them open for Fugazi many, many years gone and they totally stole the stage.

  • great band

  • in your entire life you will never accomplish anything remotely close

  • Amen Jack... ...obvs., laura is clueless

  • they suck and you suck 69.

  • One of the truly great Detroit bands of the mid-90's. Hell, they're just about the ONLY good one.

I'm glad I got to see them in their heyday...

  • I agree...

I saw them in London playing with a band called Thee Hipnotics, another great band.

I was completely blown away with The Hyenas.

  • just spent an evening at the bronx w jb and went outside to sit on the zoots steps and have him recount the birth of crawl and the break up of the band. we took it for granted as the youngins alwways do. it was fun having them practice in the livingroom while i slept it off in the back. hearing john say 'if you cant play it i'll get someone who can!!' etc.

having been spoiled by NA, the hyenas seemed a let down at the time, but seeing them now again it would be nice for a movie or a vh1 special

  • i met larissa in milwaukee before the hyenas went onstage. she was really nice and introduced me the rest of the band. john played a few rolling stones covers back stage. i asked him to perform "life of crime", but said that they hadnt performed it in a really long time.

  • One of the most powerfull vocalist of all time! Brannon your are great

Larissa Strickland will remain an icon. RIP

  • horrible, but great to be there....drama

  • Ooh, cough medicine needed, I think...

  • previous post mentioned ron but meant kevin. if ks doesn't want to do reunion then bring on ron.

  • but wait, i think ron recorded more stuff.

  • can only hope that john, ron and jim get back together for some shows. that would be unbelievable. big year this year 20th anniversary of merry-go-round. in memory of larissa.

  • No anniversary, please. Wouldn't be worth it without Larissa.

  • thnx for posting this!

    where is this from?

  • Kick ass or what?!

We need some Mule to go with....

  • Awesome!

    more please!!!

  • The Hyenas rocked - please post more!

  • Bye Larissa, thank you...
