I started on N64 then bought the pc version in 2002 or 2003.. something like that.

Not for me. I first started playing it in 1999 on N64. I love this game and I played it so much with all the classes. I don't need a guide for the switches.

Is it the same maps on the PC-version of the game?

It's slightly harder on console cause they put a predefined control setup that you can't change. But once you get used to it, you can strafe just fine. Same maps on PC version, just N64 has new redone music but they sound similar.

I would love to play this game again someday. Unfortunately, my N64 has audio/visual connection problems. I hope to get a new one someday and hopefully a copy of this game. The N64 is one of my favorite consoles of all time.

I'm trying to play Hexen 64 as well but I can't choose items. I found out that the bottom C button uses your current item but I can't find a button to change items with. got full flasks but can't use em:( even found wings of wrath.

ah thx a lot for the fast responce, and working like a charm :) now I got a new problem though (2 in fact). first I can now finaly use my wings of wrath, but I can't control my flight. I go up or down depending on withere there is ground or ceiling above me, I can't choose to go up or down and I can't switch it on or off either. it's at the secret level of the first hub n there's windows which won't break. tried shooting high n low. playing as a mage n got 2nd weapon.

I don't quite remember but it might be.. Hold Z and hit UP on the D Pad to fly up higher. Down for.. down. Don't really remember.

Well you can fly up and down I remember that cause I used it when I needed it. I just haven't played it for so long so I forget stuff. Sorry. All I can say is trial and error. Hold 1 button, push another and see what it does. There's really nothing else left then Use artifact and fly up and down and cancel flying.

guys, if you really like heXen (i love to write the "X" big as it is in the menu ^o^) you should go for the pc version. there are plenty really good emulators online and the modding scene is small but definately worth it! rpg elements (skilling your character), new spells, a shop, harder enemies... i love it. try it out! search for "korax mod". there is a lot of stuff on their page.

How much fun would you have running around defenseless, having no jump and just being able to throw flechette grenades, chaos device to teleport away and die in 1 or 2 puny hits while your enemy chases your bacon ass with high powered magic.. LOTS of Fun. OINK OINK!

Someone needs to make a mod where you HAVE to turn into a pig in order to progress. That'd be funny as all hell.

Actually, there is a secret level that can let you access a hidden room early in that level if you turn into a pig.. but it's just full of bad guys and lets you kill them from behind and get the drop on them instead of saving them for the end..

I just found a second hand store which sell loads of rare 64 cartridges I bought Hexen, Doom 64 and Duke Nukem 64 for £5 each, I'm going back next week for Wipeout 64 and C & C 64. It's a 64 goldmine.

I gave the game an instant 9. I fell in love with the N64 game in 1998. 4 player deathmatch, 4 player coop!! <-- what other n64 FPS had that at the time? not many if none and you could do deathmatch with monsters to mix it up. Game was so fun.. porkelator! XD

actually the graphics were top-notch at the time.

and with little "googleing" you can find plenty of stuff to make the graphics better. it actually looks nice with the latestest doomsday engine and all effects enabled.

I have this for the N64. It's awesome! My only problem with it however is that you can't customize the controls like in most other shooters. The only reason I'd want to do that is to fix the strafing. You can't strafe regularly, and circle strafing is out of the question. You can only hold down a button (the Z button, I think), and side step left or right. You get used to it after a while, but it would've been easier the other way, especially for the boss battles.

Beyond that, this game RULES!

I remember the 4 player split screen multiplayer in this game was a total blast. Especially like the 3rd level was totally wicked, bunch of narrow corredors and stuff. Nothing like punching someone in the face as a warrior and hearing their scream as they die.

It takes time getting used to the puzzles. Usually, a switch pushed in 1 map opens a door in another.

On N64, it's best to run coop games on medium difficulty. 'cause on the hardest setting, the Ettins run 2 times faster and there are more enemies for the system to process.. but 1 player is fine all the way it seems.

Kind of dark, but hey--a Hexen video! I love the beginning of that level, my favorite thing to do is to go into the entrance and then use the Discs of Repulsion to start a riot. I don't play as the Mage much though, he's underpowered IMO.

Actually, I prefer the Cleric. He has a solution for nearly every problem the player encounters, and his weapons are inexpensive to use.

Speaking of which, I ripped the N64 music and made it downloadable to the public. I think I'm the only one to have the N64 version available. I've looked around on the DD community and I didn't see anyone else do it.
