I think females are a bit more temperamental than males, in my experience. But then.. aren't we women? ;) My Jack, a 5 year old male Eclectus, has only bit me bad once.. and it was during giving him antibiotics with a towel wrapped around him. Some how he got me instead of the syringe. He actually broke part of his beak in my hand he bit me so hard. That has been my only experience, which was accidental. Your Bridget is absolutely stunning. What a sweet acting bird.
My female is about 14 months old and can say her name, mine and a bunch of inapporate words, she bit me the other day really hard and i did start to cry, she kinda of picked up on it, and for the first time and i dont know where she picked up he word but she said sorry and brought me a walnut
cute parrotie but did it actually talk back? i was only hearing the lady saying hello and not sure if i heard the parrotie. pretty colorful bird and beady eyes. do they fly low or high?
One of the best talking parrots, one of the most beautiful parrots, but too bad they don't like to be cuddled cause I just cant resist my urge to pet them :)
I was once about to buy a pair of eclectus chicks (but didnt), got to hold them in my hands and they were the most adorable babies ever!
Dont know if ever going to buy a parrot in the future again. The proper care and attention they need is a very big responsibility.
I had an eclectus roarus. but mine had very distinctive eye shadow. any way i found her in are tree in are back garden and managed to intise her down and from that day it was the start to a very happy time in my life.she wasnt clipped, take her out side in the garden,i just trusted her to not fly away and she never did.she would just rome around the house having free run of the place and she really was a companion and a half, i loved her so much she really was my world,R.I.P my princess
I had a Green Senegal Parrot. His name was Buddy. He was my best friend for 17 years. I am 32. He just passed away. I have never been so heartbroken in my life. He has been there forever and I thought we would die together... Parrots are truly a LIFE LONG commitment & they are not a novelty to show off. They need LOADS of love and affection and play time. My buddy was truly my sidekick...
@tola216 i am sorry for your loss. i dont know what i would do if my ekki Frank died. i havent had him nearly as long a you had buddy but i understand where your coming from.
@tola216 aww so sad i have a blue n gold n a caique be 4 i had a parakeet he died idk how we gave him atteiton n all that but wen i kame bak frum up northn i found him sprawled on the floor of his cage..so still i hope hes in a better place
@tola216 I am very sorry about your parrot. To make you feel better your lucky that you had a parrot that is nice to you. My parrot just bites me and swears at me but to other people he loves them but I still love my parrot! Hope you feel better!!!
@tola216 I lost a 10 year old Greenwing last year. He really had become a member of the family to me. I was miserable after he pased away. It did make me realize that they won't be here forever just like us, and I have made sure that I have not taken my birds for granted since. It really felt like losing a friend, and I hope in some small way it helped him to know he had a friend by his side until he was gone. Be good to your birds!
She is beautiful and I love the sound of the bike in the back too. She should never be outside without a harness on, clipped or not clipped. They can still gain height when clipped and be taken away with a gust of wind. I would hate for you to lose her. More so, I would hate for her to die a suffering death outside.
i ahve a bird just like that but her name is scarlet O'hera from gone with the wind!! and you're is cute one love it ! i will post some video of mine so everyone can see my birds.....
My female is more outgoing than my male with people they don't know well, so I think they are all individuals, just like we are. Is Bridget flighted? I was surprised she was sitting outside without a harness or anything. Even a clipped bird can get lost pretty easily outside if there is a gust of wind or a dog scares them. The females are easy targets for hawks etc. with their bright coloriing, too.
I have a pair of eclectus... my male talks more now but my female is young and she learns more and more each day. the males are definately more of a flock bird, meaning they can hang out with any member of the family and like it, my female is mine. she will go to others if she has a reason to... otherwise they will be bitten. but she has never bitten me. both sexes are amazing birds... i love them like crazy.
I don't know about the males but Bridget did bite some in the beginning but one time I made believe I was crying after she bit me and she got all upset. She was blowing out a bunch like she wanted to say something and she ran up to me put her head on me and said, in a crying voice, "I'm sorry Momma..." I'll tell you, that gave me chills. She hasn't really bit since. :-)
@Sandysgo WOW! she is in such pristene condition!!!!! do you have an empty nesting box in her cage, since they spend 6-9 months in tree holes every year in the wild? you must be doing SOMETHING right! :D keep up the god work!
@justwealth that depends on the time of year..hehe.... a bird is as nippy as you allow it, IF you start young. They can't be trusted, but you can reach an understanding that is predictable.... Did you get one yet?
The eclectus are decent talkers, a little underreated in my book. As said earlier though, if you want a talking parrot you might be best finding a 'Squawkers" toy, owning a parrot is a lifetime commitment and should be taken as seriously as raising a child. Please, read as much as you can and make sure your choice to raise a parrot is an imformed one. :)
im dying to get one although im not sure if theyre good talking, and since its going to live with my family im not sure if its a family bird or not... i was also wondering if i should get a male or female, and how good they are learning words and phrases, i have a little sister which would love to hear a bird talk (10 years old)
You shouldn't buy a bird just to talk. If you are only buying it so that you can hear it talk, you obviously are not educated enough to own a bird. and before you seriously consider getting one, you need to do research to make sure you can care for a parrot.
Birds are like children, they can be hard to take care of, they are not cheap to care for, they need constant attention, they are messy, they have good days, bad days, noisy days. etc.
It is like having a toddler. Very unlike a dog or cat
I got Bridget when a neighbor passed away and didn't have a home for her. She was already talking and loves people but I"ve heard that the males actually talk more. You have to spend alot of time in quiet to teach them, and she does like alot of attention or she gets depressed or mad.
Pick one thing you want her to say and for about 15 minutes a day, go to a quiet place and do nothing but that one word or statement. Do that daily until she says it before moving on to something else. Give at least 5 to 10 seconds between saying it before repeating. Mine wants to look into my mouth when I say it too. You can usually tell if they like it and I think chances are better if they do.
my local pet shop is getting 2 eclectus females in how much do they sell for and do you think there good with kids as i have a caique and he/she is ace with my 4 yr old and 2yr old :-) i have the space and time for another bird. how big do they grow
They are very friendly birds. fI take her out and she leans toward every stranger wanting them to hold her. They are very quiet and not single human birds. Around here they are about $1600. They get a little bit bigger than an African Grey. She went thru a time where she bit a little then I made believe I was crying and she said "I'm sorry" and hasn't bit anyone since.. Seriously, she said she was sorry in a crying voice and no one's ever heard her say that before!
I am so angry!!! I bought an eclectus parrot and it turned out to be Crossbred with the Australian Eclectus. the colour of my bird is Yellow, Blue, Red, orange on the tip of the tail feather.
It's Beak is Green and Black.
But the good thing is it is worth more than $1500
She can talk too.
The vet says she could be either a RARE Mutation or a crossbred bird
if it is a rare mutation i will surely try breeding her. Nice video
That sounds like a very pretty bird. And it talks too. I think after getting over the anger of thinking you were ripped off, I'd be happy about it. Send me a picture, or post a video. I'd love to see it. = )
I have a female eclectus named Angel :) She's not a talker tho, more a cuddler :) Really hopes she will do some words, but if she doesnt I wont love her less for it <3
Eclectus parrots must be the prettiest parrots of all :) Hyacint Macaws are beautifull too tho..
Great looking video, my wife and I just picked up our new four month old Eclectus female. I would post a vid, but all I have is a nikon D300. About the only strange thing I noticed is when I yawn, the bird (Abby) imitates me by yawing too. No words yet, but she is only 4 months. Thanks again for the video and keep taking em for us, thanks!!
All you have! That's an awesome camera. You can take decent videos with point and shoot digitals under $100. I'm sure she'll talk soon. Thanks for the comment. Sandy & Bridget
wow she is stunning. I got a female from someone and she looked quite ruffled.. Finally her new feathers are starting to come back.. She never spoke at his house and now all the sudden she is talking. Im not sure what all nutrisions she is lacking. But i hope one day she will look as good or even close to Bridget..
I think that if she's talking now that she's happy! Bridget eats pretty much anything we eat with an occasional bit of bird seed. LOL Her very favorite thing is her bedtime snack of Quaker Oat Bran cereal and milk!
