  • @vasias: Thx!!! Do u have more from "your collections" w/ Gregory Hines? Do u have some more info as to when & where this was recorded? Tryin' to raise awareness to the fact that there are still unreleased great things w/ him.

  • the whole thing is epic but i love when savion kick off at 520 like yeah that will do nicely and greg was like nah fuck that young buck we gone dance out this bitch LOL.........SO GREAT

  • m.o.b.

  • A legend and the next generation legend. Both of them kill it! G. Hines is still missed! RIP

  • Wow RIP Gregory Hines...i miss him! Gone waaay to soon but thank God we still have Savion!

  • Amazing!

  • Gosh I miss Gregory Hines, he was truly one of my favorites! Such an incredible performer!!

  • this is a display of true hoofing a school wouldn't beable to teach you this, if you ain't got this inside of you you just won't have it.....amazing!!!!!

  • i lovethis.and i love tap

  • Excellent!! R.I.P. Gregory Hines!!! Keep the torch burning Savion!!!

  • I don't know, but I have heard a few "tap dance 101" types say that they don't consider this type of dance tap dancing. Is this the case? Do dance school types respect people like Savion Glover and Gregory Hines? Just wondering as I was told that they didn't...

  • @Jayjen35 Any true dancer worth their salt recognizes and respects this form of tap, which is considered "hoofing." Meanwhile, if you watch Gregory in "White Knights" you'll see he is a dancer in every respect. I can't remember if I've seen the same range from Savion, but I still consider him the best dancer currently on the planet. When I saw his show in Boston a few years ago, he blew my mind.

  • This is some serious getdown drumming, dancing, rhythmic language. My mom took me to see Gregory Hines in Jelly's Last Jam (which this video is not from, at all) and then to see Savion Glover Downtown (which was an off-broadway show of Savion getting down with a jazz band. His mother happened to be in the audience that night. She stood up and screamed "Work it Savy, work it baby! Show mama what you made of." And he did. He worked it harder than I've seen anybody work it. F'ing brilliant!

  • amazing performance all around - I love Eli Founatin's work as much as I love Greg H's and Savion's

  • the student & the master @ their BEST!!!!

  • talk about the Good foot...whohoo!!!!

  • rest in peace gregory

  • What can you say except....WOW!! :D

  • BRAVO!

  • beautiful

    they had church

  • AMEN!!

  • All i see is 2 masters of their craft!!

  • This is definitely from around the "Jelly's Last Jam" era - around 1993-1994. Savion is wearing the "Jelly's" boots. The guy on the tambourine is Eli Fountain.

  • Superb

  • just outstanding!

  • When was this dated..anyone know? rare stuff ..is it the only time they tapped?

  • Mr. Hines and Mr. Glover performed several times together, starting when Savion was roughly around 13 years old until Savion became an adult. This looks like it was taken around the time they both performed in a show on Broadway called "Jelly's Last Jam". Savion was kind of like Gregory's protege.

  • @daytonville Definitely not Jelly's Last Jam (I saw it). This looks like it was taken from a small dance class, church, or another sort of intimate informal performance.

  • @sebastianrenix Yes, I agree that this is not Jelly's Last Jam. I didn't mean to imply that it was. I only mentioned that this looks like it occurred during the same time period based on the relative age of the dancers at that time.

  • @daytonville i think i remember that night. if i am not mistaken it was a gig at the nueyorican poets cafe in nyc. gregory and savion were doing jelly's last jam on broadway at that time, but came by after that show for a visit at this session. the gig was organized by a woman tap dancer, argh, what's her name now. i forgot.

  • the master and the protege...thus endeth the lesson.

  • this was simply beautiful, I miss Gregory

  • Wait... Doesn't Savion Glover have dreads? None of the guys in this clip have dreads...? (or am I being really retarded here somewhere?)

  • this is before he started growing his dreads he didn't always have dreads
