  • I love how Buddy sung with a hicup sound its so awesome but it's hard to do

  • excellent ty for shareing!

  • This is cuter than puppies and kittens!

  • My God. <3 *_________________*

  • now i like paul mcCartney more

  • i keep replaying 0:48 - 0:52 ...pretty pretty pretty pretty peggy sue, o-oh!

  • his guitar is restrung for left-handed playing, his playing like a lefty with a left-handed guitar!!!

the chords are A,D and E, but his not playing like Hendrix, because hendrix played right-handed guitars but upside down, also as Kurt Cobain did.

  • i guess this is a negative video? well, what is it called when the video is backwards? or was he left handed? another thing, that is how british singers, sing? someone, that was english told me on youtube, that clapton was not singing in an american accent. lol

  • @21ryrunner Paul is left handed, but it looks like he's playing a right handed acoustic strung upside down

  • @robisallbyhimself - well if you see the chords....he is playing proper A, D and E chords......and thats not an upside down string pattern.....

  • @nish147 the string pattern isn't upside down because he's playing a right handed guitar, but upside down and restrung like a normal left handed guitar. Just like jimi hendrix did.

  • I love how he covers a song exact....My peggy sue oohh ahh ohh a ohh!

  • Genius!

  • jmorejennings don't diss paul mccartney he is doing it for a tribute to Buddy Holly and it is great!

  • he does even know the fuckin words to it lol

  • I've always thought it was cool to hear paul talking about buddy as we talk about him when we say "paul mccartney, no one like him".

  • the beatles got they're inspiration from buddy holly. Paul mcCartney has all the copyrights to all of Buddy Holly's songs. Gotta love the beatles and buddy holly.

  • @1939PlymouthRatRod2 Paul McCartney did say at the end of the video "No one like him" even though I disagree with Paul, I think no one is like him, but anyways why are you shit talking? You dont have to like it better than Buddy Holly's, you also dont need to say its shit.

  • Just like the Hamburg days!

  • this is from "The Real Buddy Holly Story" -a documentary narrated , directed & produced by Paul McCartney with interviews of The Crickets and other people Buddy Holly knew or worked with. a great documentary with lot of rare Buddy performances and special footage of Paul performing some Buddy Holly songs. the documentary and all the musical covers of Buddy Paul does are on youtube, but sadly not on itunes.

  • this makes me so happy

  • Paul was still at the high point in terms of vocal power when he sang this tune and it shows. Buddy Holly hiccups and a little Paul Beatle type whimsy thrown in. Nice.

  • I love how he puts his own spin on it like it the Beatles drug days. Or he could be just screwing around.

  • i think buddy holly had the hiccups when he recorded this song ya know" my peggy sue ahoo hoo hoo (hic)ahoo!!!!!"

  • At the end Paul sounded like a mix between a British accent and a southern one. hahahah When he talks about Buddy Holly.

  • he's not too sure about the text, is he !? :P love this tho !! amazing voice for an amazing song by another amazing artist ;)

  • He is so cute here! I wish I could play guitar a tenth as good as he does!

  • @njriley55 Peggy Sue is actually a very easy son to play! = ) Just gotta memorize 3 or 4 chords and you're goo to go! :P

  • @bealtespip123 I always have such a hard time trying to figure out what chords he's playing since he's a lefty! I guess I need to look at him in a mirror! LOL! I can play a ton of Beatles songs, just not near as good as the real thing (then who is as good?!)

  • @njriley55 Ha ha. Well,I think the chords really just consist of A,E, and D. Not that hard. :P

  • @bealtespip123 alot of holly songs are like that

  • Its a D-28 Martin

    NOT an Epiphone Texan

  • the walrus was buddy

  • I love the Beatles, but nobody can beat Buddy Holly

  • does anybody now the tuning?

From what I can see he starts with an F, but in standard tuning this sounds quite different....

... and by the way, what a beautiful version, thanks for posting!

  • bardzo delikatnie mowiac: paul, klasa sama w sobie.

  • Hey fella it needs to be sung like you have a pair or let the dead guy sing it since he ws the only one with an once of talent.

  • @1939PlymouthRatRod Sorry to sound stupid but seriously... what is a pair?

  • @clarkbell He means a pair of balls, like testicles you know. He's sayin he sings like a pussy.

  • ... 1957 Hit!

  • I love Paul, but John's version just kicks this one's ass :D

  • Mr. Music

  • This version is great, better than johns one, at least for me

  • I learned this song by watching Paul play it. The way he plays is so clean, that I could tell what the chords were right away by looking at him, even with that weird fingering he has for F (as opposed to the barre F that is usually done).

  • @giligara30492 I think F chord is easier the way he does

  • @giligara30492 there is nothing weird about the way he fingers the "F" chord pretty standard stuff he is just playing it on the top 5 strings w/o the barre..its pretty common and easier than the barre..try it out you'll see.

  • Lennon has a Cover of this song also :p

  • @0oJMPo0 Yeah, i've heard both and i've got to say this one is better =)

  • Thanks for uploading but this ceased to be "rare" when the McCartney Years DVD was released.

  • 70's look so nice. I wish i were there

  • SHITE.. ... but i will say pauls a great at 'little richard

  • Small mic. ;p

  • Paul sounds so cute doing the little 'hiccup' thing <3<3

  • The interesting thing, Paul owened the rights to Buddy Holly's catalog by 1970. Around '74, '75 John and Paul were on good terms again, and on his Rock N Roll album John covered "Peggy Sue". He was interviewed in Melody Maker in 1975 and the interviewer commented that Paul would get royalties. John said

“What a clever move that was. I hope he gives me a good deal. I don’t care who gets the money. With Paul it’s cool cos we’re pals.” How sweet is that?

  • Amazing...Paul sounds just like Buddy Holly. Except Buddy plays and sings this song a little bit faster.

  • Without Buddy, the Beatles may not have had the impact on musical history that they did.

  • @Twinhit false

  • @IamAsi94 he's right, buddy was one of their greatest influences.... heck the Beatles were named to honor buddy hollys band the crickets.

  • @thecarters28 he was an influence no doubt but they were created from anyone else but the beatles-simple

  • Great hair!

  • If Buddy Holly did not die, he would have recorded a duet with Paul, I think. He would also have joined Ringo's All Star Band.

  • Great clip! Loved it.

  • John did it better, just sayin

  • GENIUS DOES GENIUS

  • Totally tubular to the max!

    xoxo

    The Clarences

  • Paul now owns the entire Buddy Holly music collection.

  • @windycitygal1000 i wish i owned it

  • he's so creative with his mouth. i wonder how his tongue works.... how he kisses....

  • @xXloverchic17Xx I daresay every female who ever got to see or hear this man would wonder the same thing. He really is quite lovely isn't he.

  • Paul is a huge fan of Buddy, Paul has said Buddy definitley influenced his music.

  • @basenjib123 Paul bought the entire catalogue of Buddy Holly's music in the 70's or 80's.

  • I love Paul. But for God's sake learn the words or don't record it.

  • @malcjow It isn't rbbish, it's just his version:(

  • Paul is about the best singer in my book. But only Buddy Holly sings this song great.

  • Holly was a genius. He was far ahead of his time and he indeed would have been competition for the beatles. Late and Great is correct!!!

  • Well it's hardly a given that Buddy would have matched Lennon/McCartney had he not died, and evolved like they did. It's hard for me to imagine Buddy at a piano in the late 60's singing a song like Let It Be. But who knows. To me, Lennon and McCartney were on another stratosphere from everyone else. Lennon especially impresses me artistically more than anyone. He never dipped either. He was just as good in 1980 before he died as he ever was.

  • DAMN!!!!

All those future songs that died w/Buddy!!!

Imagine if Paul died after writting Love Me Do.

  • John wrote that song but i get yer point

  • Paul wrote Love Me Do and John wrote the middle eight or "the bridge"

PS. All those future songs that died w/Jeff Buckley!

  • i think it might be the other way around but whatever

  • y does he say nobody liked him at the end? I like buddy holly

  • he didn't say nobody liked him...he said "No one like him",,he was complimenting Buddy Holly. Its his British accent that threw you off

  • @BillyGun357 And all the beatles loved Buddy Holly sooooooo obviously Paul wouldn't say anything to put down Buddy. =)

  • @BillyGun357 he seems to be trying to simulate the american accent

  • @BillyGun357 even tho he was doing an american accent at the time!!

  • he said no-one like him

it sounded like he tryed his best at an american accent- meaning there is nobody like him, and there will only be one buddy holly, GREAT!

  • the funny part is that john also recorded a cover of this song

  • And at about the same time for his 'Rock and Roll' Album. Prefer Lennon's version

  • @weenyone yea, john lennon got the song perfectly, i think it sounds really similar to buddy holly

  • beatles love buddy

  • even though buddy holly died before the beatles got famous and all i bet holly would be a huge fan to them all rightnow holly is probably in heaven hanging out with john and george

  • I bet it would be the OTHER way around.

  • tell me: how can I NOT love this man? i must love him

  • he does buddy hollys voice really good!

  • @MattTC1028 the day he met john he could already match buddy hollys voice and elvis's voice. he was only 14 too

  • that's why he's the man.

  • to nwj82: i am thinking this clip may have something to do with the fact that Paul was buying up the copyrights to Buddy Holley songs

  • it was probably a promo to sell Buddy Holley stuff to line pauls already full pockets. lol still a great performance no matter why he did it

  • Really? He did not have a lot of money at this time. Buddy Holly was a influence for the Beatles.

  • this makes me wanna stop using lsd

  • hehehehehe

  • @SirBrianCabrera you are a fucking idiot....what is wrong with you?? Oh I get it....you say idiotic things because you're a drug freak.........jerk!!

  • Paul should dedicate this to Heather Mills....wait for it.....wait for it......GOT IT!

  • @stratman123 he should play the song they wrote in 1964 called money and dedicate it to heather mills. XD

  • Yeah, he could do them back to back. "Peggy Sue", because Heather Mills has a PEG leg, AND she SUE'd him for half his money, and "Money", because that's what she got out of him!

P.S. The song "Money (That's What I Want)" was written by Barry Gordy from MOTOWN and some other woman. It was a hit in 1959 for somebody else.

  • @stratman123 haha good one, me and my friend phil are like john and paul, i play rhythm guitar and i dont play cleanly and my friend is a left handed bass player and my teacher told me im gonna marry some ugly asian chick and then my friend sed "ya and im gonna marry a peg legged woman who took all my money!"

  • WOOOOOOOW PAUL Rooockks !!!!

    the best

  • Buddy Holly sings better.

  • i have to disagree with you on that

  • this makes me want to stop drinking

  • lol

  • Daft mates...like to hear him sing his composition "Woman". Not "Oh Woman Oh Why". Paul doesn't know why you go so crazy over this...Buddy does it better...

  • <3!

  • what a wonderfull voice...

"I'd like to have the same!" XD

    good post,thank ;)

  • some of Paul's best stuff was during his mullet years.

  • What chord does he play at 0.47...anyone?

  • That would be an F major chord.

  • Thanks, i figured it out 5 minutes after i posted. I was confused cuz he doesnt play the barre chord, but the one with ur thumb on the E.

  • hes playing in e , so its f sharp

  • f sharp mate , just move f up one lol

  • Tnx :)

  • sorry for giving you duff info mate its f not f# , just played along to it .Glad to help mate

  • love wat he says in the end

  • Any Beatle is untouchable, especially L&M. Their influence thankfully lives on.

  • Paul bought the entire Buddy Holly catalog, independently, not as a Beatle, in spite of Jackson purchasing the Beatles catalog. In fact, Paul encouraged Jackson to consider buying music as an investment, and then lo and behold, he bought out the Beatles while Paul wasn't paying attention.

  • Actually, pinkzeppelin, this IS Paul's song! McCartney owns the Buddy Holly song catalog.

  • lol thats pretty cool but cmon if it was his song cuz he owned it that would make all of the beatles song michael jackson song, and that would be no good

  • WOT GUITAR IS THIS

  • Probably a C.F. Martin D-28 he bought in 1968.

  • Comment removed

  • Aguante Buddy Holly!!!

    je...

    te amamos Paul!!!

  • wow, does anyone own the McCartney Years box set? it's got two of these videos. I wanna learn how to rip Dvds, if you could help me that'd be great:D

  • yes! this is just great!

  • That is incredible!! I love it. I never knew this existed. Thank you so much for posting!!

  • Wow! Cool!

  • Classic!!!

  • Macca's is just amazing

    All his songs are amazing!

  • This isnt his song

  • Paul was about that time John lennon lived a much better singer than him. His voice is much more various. John was more a kind of a hippie/protest singer.

  • John has one of the most distinct voices of all time. But why they were so great is because they worked so well TOGETHER.

  • I dislike how people slow down Buddy Holly songs when they cover them. This is cool, though, don't get me wrong.

  • Everybody interprets songs differently. As much as I liike Paul, I would have to agree with you. Without Elvis, Carl Perkins, Buddy Holly, and others, the beatles would have been nothing.

  • Where did this footage originally come from?

  • Este Paul, todo lo que hace es bueno.

  • that was awesome. i like it better than lennon's version of rave on that i saw on youtube

  • OMG that American accent was right on! And it was defiantly Texan I'm from Dallas! I don't know about "yall" but I loved it!

  • someone said george had as much talent as paul. please.. i like george and he his great but mccartney as a musician no one can touch him. george couldnt play as many instruments as paul as in the drums. what would the beatles be without len/mac. it took all four but.....

  • Yeah, big George fan too, but Paul's an easy target, so people take shots at him and side with Lennon or Harrison to feel "hipper" or whatever. What truly sets McCartney apart is his vision. The man has always had vision. Like his vision or not, it's a miracle that he keeps going and keeps it fresh... just listen to the new Fireman album for a start.

I was just thinking how much courage Macca has, Lennon was shot, Harrison stabbed, and McCartney continues to tour!

    He's got talent and balls.

  • he got death threats from muslim extremist for having performed in Israel

  • Is there anything they WON'T cry about? The man just wants to play music.I know they're used to the sounds of bullets whizzing past their heads, but this is nice too.

  • yeah i agree.. google dylan comments on mccartney. very interesting stuff.. other artists have alot of respect for mccartney. actually mccartney had harder songs(rock songs) then lennon. both were great!!

  • Other artists have a lot of respect for McCartney because they: A) know what they're talking about, B) aren't trying to prove how hip they are, C) other artists aren't bothering to read reviews. What do critics (who form public opinion) know? Critics are boils on the ass of the art world. If critics knew anything about music they'd be musicians, if they knew anything about writing they'd be real writers. As Hans Christian Andersen said, all critics, do is turn "something" into "nothing."

  • well said

  • lol. i like George the most, but i dont like him because i want to seem more "hip" i like him because of his songs and attitude towards music and criticism, cos i actually care about just the music and tbh most people actually like john and george not because they want to seem hip but because they simply like them the most but i agree critics turn something into nothing

  • lol Paul so funny

  • Sweet, i like the buddy holly one too

    beatles rock

  • Amazing

  • Guys lets not argue. John and Paul were both amazing musicians. I mean the best that ever lived. I think perhaps Paul was the better musician(shown in the early days when he was the only one who could tune a guitar) but John was the better songwriter. And well when you put those together you come out with 27 #1 hits. Not to mention that amazing guitarist George who I thought had the best solo career of them all and Ringo, the man who could put the nicest beat to anything.

  • Thank you Paul for loving Holly, Buddy would have loved you too.

  • Paul was better than John hands down

  • Did you forget WIngs? Paul had a few great hits with his other band which I wish more people would give him credit for

  • dont worry, i agree with you on that

  • stubbyguy: John had a knack for experimental music, which makes him more innovative than Paul... BUT, if you compare them both, no one is better than the other in a realistic point-of-view... John and Paul were like peanut-butter and jelly: they came together... although i have to say that when they stopped writing together, Paul lost some of his magic :( ...and John remained as talented, if not more... to be honest, I prefer John's music than Paul's "hits."

  • Also, forgot to mention... of course it's not all about John and Paul... George had as much as talent as Paul if not more... he just wasn't acknowledged as much.

  • I agree with you about the talent George had......too bad he couldn't show it more with the group but his solo work revealed it.

  • Paul was actually quite avid about avant-garde music in the late 60's. More so than John.

  • AGREED

  • You cannot compare the two its impossible.

  • what the fuck is with the American accent at the end?

  • could be because Buddy was an American, and concluding the song in an irritating Liverpudlian accent might ruin it
