  • Am I the only one that was nervous the whole time the kid was holding that axe.

  • wogdoggy,

    How ya doin?

I missed something here on your soccer field comment.

Let me clarify my statements, On all incoming balls other than the ones that are at tomahawking height the barrel should be brought down into a level plane with the downward flight of the ball and through into a slightly (5 degree ) up .route which allows for app. (12) " of barrel to ball contact/ carrying distance.instead of app. (6) inches which also allows for longer barrel in zone time.

  • @donervin1 Its just a lil dig at you doner,no harm intended.the problem here is the hands go DIRECTLY to the ball in a downward path.his hands go STRAIGHT DOWN..in a pro swing the pro pivots and tens the barell with handle torque between the two hands..they help "turn the barrel" while striding forward.this drill is horrible doner..I know you want to teach palms up palms down at contact BUT you have to get there the correct way.. google baseballdebate proboards and join

  • nice intentions but promoting a downward swing..guys will OWN him outside..lol..with that bath path being ingrained in his practice swings you are asking for HUGE trouble.

  • unbelievable! I have some throwing knives we can teach him to catch with.

  • WHERE IS THIS KID"S HELMET??? Yeah, I want my kid swinging a freakin axe without a helmet. Moron father. "Honey? Call 911 because Timmy has an AXE STUCK IN HIS HEAD!!!"

  • Where do I find the video of this kid slips axe out of his hands and smashes door of that Civic behind him?

  • dude your terrible, look at griffey, matt holliday, carlos gonzalez, pujols, and ted williams , they all bar their arm , and you should let your son do what is comfortable for him, if he bends his front arm its taking away the energy that was loaded from the ground up and leaves him chopping at the ball with his arms. Ralphdee68 is right. terrible mechanics.

  • just lift weights

  • Not a good drill. Mechanics are terrible

  • The concept of the Ax drill is excellent, those who do not think so buy a copy of "The Science of Hitting" by the master "TED WILLIAMS", cut handle to one's size from top end, get into stance with ax in hand, then gently take the blade to a tree etc. a few times just to get the feel and hand position from launch position to point of contact, then I use an ax handle w/out blade, cut to one's size for [Tee,] [Soft toss],[[close batting] etc. tennis balls etc. no baseballs.

  • @donervin1 ted williams would NEVER promote that downward path to the soccer field..yes he talked about the palm up palm down position..

  • geez that bat betta not slip some1 could be killed NOT smart and its top heavy b careful not 2 tear up his shoulder or kill some1

  • wow awful swing path!!! I think this guy is just 2 lazy 2 chop his own wood

  • if this was so good after 3 years show him playing for real

  • he need s a follow thru lol

  • in 1820 a man named fredrick osloft one day he was working in his lab until a ghost came by and killed him the next morning fredrick was nowhere to be seen 100 years later two boys went in the lab as a dare the boys where never seen again where aparently murdered now that u have read this comment tonight when u go to sleep the two boys and fredrick will come and murder you but you can stop this by posting this comment on 5 other videos by midnight

  • i always thot swinging an axe can strengthen your wrists and your core... thats how mickey mantle was so strong he was a farm boy and he prob axed wood and im sure he lugged things around.. ( hey be careful. geeze)

  • No - this isn't a great drill, it's a terrible idea. If there are other people or children around and the bat slips.... You are crazy! He's also very liable to gash himself.

  • @pshisbey let alone promoting a HORRIBLE swing path..but the kid may be an awesome farm hand

  • that kid looks terrifying with that axe in his hands, and thats actually not good for him to swing an axe if it weighs more than the regular bat that he uses, plus its end heavy.

he could end up tearing some rotater cuff, or other muscles, just get a bat and swing it in the backyard.

  • And what i cant understand is why people are hateing on this video.

  • Well his dad cares about his Baseball game.

  • the only thing this promotes is a decent grip. Other than that the axe is just way to heavy ( you can see that by the extremely slow swing ) and there absolutely no swinging through the power zone and no high finish............pretty useless. Hit off a tee, even the pros still do it.

  • i ma use this in the field and

    samurai slice da ball

  • put him to work in oregon

    mr miyagi

  • This has to be one of the worst drills I have ever seen in my life.....Hey dad, if you want to build strength in the kids swing, mount an old tire and have him hit that. God forbid that kid whack himself in the leg!!! If you are worried about him locking out his arms, as he in his stance just simply have him touch his elbows together....aka...Joe Morgan......poor kid!

  • good try, but by far one of the worst drills.

1, you can't trust all little kids with an axe.

2, he extends his arms way to early, which makes it difficult to check your swing, loses bat speed, and you can't adjust to the inside pitch. 3, he is swinging too much and you can see about 2 minutes in this video, he is dropping too much so he swings more upward than level. and no one wants bad habits this young.

it only works for his knuckles being lined up, power, and keeping your head down.

  • his name Freddie by any chance?

  • Using a heavyer bat than he usually swings actually slows down ur bat speed, it works on slow twitch muscles which makes the bat speed slower.

  • You're gonna stunt his growth. Poor kid, some parents are just crazy serious about little league sports.

  • mmmhmmm...interesting...ted did say that the hands should be square and unbroken @ contact so i guess this drill promotes this...

  • I'm not a big fan of this idea..... the only worthwhile thing this teaches you is the proper grip. Plus, there's no follow through at all during the swing.

  • This is not a good drill. However, I do like the shape of the axe stick, which will allow the student to properly align the door knocking knuckles. This father is not horrible, he is spending time with his son.

  • This is pure idiocy. Any parent who would listen to this tripe is not giving sound advise for baseball drills. If you choose to listen to this then your child will not get the true fundamentals of swinging a bat the proper way...

  • this is stupid the kids gonna hit him, there is no repetion because the kids tired after 10 swings, the guy needs to make a tee or something and just use a heavier bat, this is not helping and during the game the kid probably has one of those ugly half swings were his hands finish at his hips. (love faceing batters like that its a sure out)

  • STUPID SHI....

  • wat a horrible father

  • It look like a great drill, but dangerous.

  • um, well, first of all, thats not a good drill because your not swinging all the way through so its really not teaching bat speed.
