Of all the Bass singers I have heard. London Parris is the best. It seems like many of the best Bass singers were really tall and thin. Perhaps that was in times of yesteryear only. I know that there are some exceptions.
the vid is testimony to how great gospel music used to be and how hard we have to work today to match it -- a very hard task... no pitch correction computers then and probably more musicians had better pitch sense.
Horace Parrish IS still alive he is doing really good. He is my great grandfather and just turned 85. They had a party and sang around the piano like always. I live out of state and couldn't make it.
That is unfortunate that you couldn't make it. To you he is your Great Grandfather, But he is also a piece of Gospel Music History. I'm really into things/people who are of historical significance. Hopefully you will be able to make the next one.
I am glad to know that he is still alive and kicking....always thought he was one of the best tenors and loved the endings when he would go up! How about Jimmy Taylor? Remember them when I lived in Tampa in the '80's and worked at the Social Security Office.
You can call those boys,,,The Rebels, The Confederates, The MidnightRiders or The Red legg Strangers I don't care what you call them, those boys can sing.
London was born in 1931 and died in 1992...I think! I can find out but it will take a minute or two. He was 61 when he died from a heart attack. He was at the 1991 GOGR in Greenville and died the next year. Forgetfull in my olden age!
How classically done. The signature of a great group that is head and shoulders above the rest, is that they take a familiar song and make it a classic. To hear as well as see this performance is sweet, real sweet.THXS

Notice how smooth John Matthews is on this song..he was right in there with Doy Ott of the Statesmen!

Jim Hamill would be about 31 years old...Horace about 44....London could do a low note without eating on the mike!
