I'm a fan of Shintaro Katsu's Zatoichi movies and TV Series. This movie if you even want to call it that. Is far below that and brings great shame to Zatoichi movies and novels alike. Having watched this modern day remake was a nightmare and I hope they leave the Zatoichi legacy alone until a decent writer and director finds better use for it that this fiasco.
I was supposed to be going on one Friday night with friends when this came on the tv. I stood watching it for a minute and ended up not going out at all and lying to everyone just to stay in and watch it. Absolutely amazing film 10/10.
We just watched it the other night on SBS and could'nt figure out what the peasant farmers were doing in the field then I think i said are they practiscing dancing but great movie great dancing thanks for the upload. What a talented man that bloke is,and a nice way at looking at life I think.
@yarow122 He wasn't really a bad guy... He just got in the middle of everyone else's schemes!!! ^.^ This is really one of the better versions of the Zatoichi story
@pianopera :-D They look like man indeed. Btw I think they are not Geisya. Just normal girls....Geisya wears different sort of Kimono and obi(belt) and hair style is not the same I think.
@liegjepiet yes a great film i think that it equals the 1960's era Zatoichi films the boy who dressed as a girl is named Daigoro Tachibana. who sill keeps the traditional dance alive. a rising star of the stage. and now the screen.
The three dancers and the drummer are called The Stripes. Drummer can dance too. Check out youtube video Shamisen vs Tap to see them again, it's fabulous
lmao! the ladies are funny. one of the guys in the green seems like the shoe is to small for them during the lil solo part. the second guy i think. the ending was funny too
@JEluvs2laugh... Shoe not actually too small; Japanese geta shoes are normally worn with the heel hanging 2-3cm over the back of the sole. It is more unusual that some in this scene wear them with the whole foot on the sole
i rmebr buying this film when i was 16 obsessed wiht japanese cinema being in judo and what not-then when i saw the movie i was like wow gorefest-then i saw this at the end.
Rolf, you obviously have no idea what you're taling about! XD Takeshi is Japan's most famous actor and they look upon him as a national hero; they LOVE his movies in Japan! (Belive me, I lived there for 10 months, and I saw him in TV-shows and commercials ALL THE TIME)
I wish they had these kind of parties they look so fun and I'd be that drunk guy laughing and trying to tap dance while succeeding in only making an ass out of my self and I wouldn't regret any of it either
Just a scene of breathtaking magic. A beautiful and delight Coda to a splendid film. The part when the brother and sister turn back to kids for a moment, so as to say that through it all they were able to reclaim some of their innocence, makes me cry every time. Great crew that gave it their all.
My wife stumbled onto this part of the movie while switching channels and shouted Hey, come look at this! Needless to say, we had to find out what it was. Top notch movie and dance.
@Drerark Wait... you said that they do this to summon the protection.... of chuck norris? And you've seen the clips of this Zatoichi man in action and --? WOW. Zatoichi's level is astronomical. It's like bringing wine coolers to a tequila and vodka party. Or trying to make Urkle go against Einstein. What the hell's wrong with you?
Anyone else notice how Kitano incorporates rhythmic elements in many ways throughout the film? Although I enjoyed the ending very much on first view, it caught me completely by surprise--probably the last thing I expected to see. Never saw anything like it before.

This was the last of 20-odd Zatoichi films I watched and when this dance came up I thought, Wh.What the hell? Then, the next day, I watched it again and realized this number is basically a curtain call for the cast then I loved it. This really blows Lord of the Dance away and frankly, Im glad I cant dance like this because; if I could I would never, ever stop dancing.

I only said this was his only film that was popular in japan
The other movies he made weren't that popular although movie making is one of his big hobbies and in japan he's only famous for his tv work and such
Outside of japan he's famous because of his movies
And don't talk to me like i don't nothing about him
