  • I think it's unfair to compare composers and artists in general. When I listen to Kentaro Sato pieces, I hear only his emotion and his connection to the text and melodies and how each vocal line has a melody that somehow creates a piece as a whole. When I listen to other composers, Whitacre, Lauridsen, E. W. Barnum, Part, Tavener, Joshua Shank, and Stroope, I don't listen for similarities. As a composer myself, I feel that there is something demeaning about comparisons to other composers.

  • @ThatsNonpossible I just hope people really think about each composer experiencing life differently and using those experiences to reflect music as a part of themselves. Whether or not motifs are similar, each piece is delicate in it's own way and should be treated as such. Not a reflection of another composer, but as a reflection of the person who is taking the time, energy and strength to put out something completely unique in its own right.

Yes, all the male voices are Kentaro's, and the female voices are mine, April Amante :) He recorded me in his apartment studio, one part at a time.

  • Hmm, I wonder whose voice this is.... :)

I hope you're doing well Ken P! I miss the old days!

  • I hear more of Symphonic sound, Copland, and Japanese traditional music than Lauridsen. One thing for sure is that Lauridsen won't write all those moving lines!

I think this work, especially Gloria and Sanctus are masterworks!

  • Pretty, but extremely derivative, mostly of Morten Lauridsen.
