  • Juice Newton also recorded this song

  • This song and video tells the story of the recession today.

  • twenty years=blink of an eye

  • God Bless you, Kenney!

  • A lot can change in 20 years. The moral and message of this song is to enjoy the moment, for what it is

  • Anyone who dislikes this song has no soul. I grew up in a town just like this. It was HEAVEN !!

  • Twenty years ago, music was good.

  • this town was destroyed by a tornadoe in jan 1999' its not really a small town either ' clarksville tenn ' i missed by mins having my 1963 impala in this video when they were filming

  • sorry this is not a small town ' bigger than you think its clarksville tenn

  • i love this song. It really touched me.

  • It's Charlie Chase they talked about it.

  • listen to the little man by alan jackson this is a true song like this

  • Try being 60 and knowing this song was recorded 20+ years ago.....life just goes by and you wonder -- where?? Thank you for posting this very touching video. It was touching then, now....there are no words.....

  • @ChrisCurtisFan Try being 36 and realizing that U remember when this song came out. Then realizing that now I'm much much closer to 40 than I am 20

  • NO NO NO YOUTUBE! IF I WANTED TO BUY THE NEW JASON DERULO CD, I WOULDN'T BE WATCHING KENNY ROGERS MUSIC VIDEOS...

  • This is how I feel about my hometown. Too bad things have changed for the worse not better. Seemed like the possibilities were endless 20 years ago.

  • Brings back old memories! And does kenny ever age!

  • I am at a loss for words~~

  • what a heart his man has.... :'-0

  • I was 10 the first time I heard this song. I wore out an old cassette tape that I had it on because I listened to it so much. I love it.

  • "How could we know he would never come back, twenty years ago?"

That line always gets to me.

  • It's now looking back 40+ years ago for me. I had many friends who joined the Army and never came back.

Very moving- I need some Kleenex to watch it.

  • I love that song.

  • I was 21 when this was new. now it makes me cry, especially when he talks about Joe Johnson, his friend that joined the Army & never came back. this song has much more meaning for me than it did when it was new. It never made me cry then.

  • Heart and Soul says it all.....

  • I've always loved Kenny Rogers (and BTW this IS him, I'm positive of that). But like others have said on here, I was only about 20 something when this came out, so it didn't mean as much then. But now that I'm in my 40's, so much of it hits home. What a great song.

  • When this song came out I was about 10 years old and I never knew that I would be on youtube all these years later watching it now that I'm 35 and think wow this is odd. man I miss those easy days . Oh yea on sat. morning I was watching cartoons HA HA .Thanks for the song and the vid.

  • good song, and memories.

  • I'm crying so hard, and I'm only 18. I have such respect for you people how have lived 40 years or more. I can't even see the screen.

  • @beautifulsarah100 oh dear... TIME is hard, the essece of life. Without TIME, we all would be i shambles, yes with or without the ticking, Life is hard, can only be made less harder..... oh! yes then there are memories for the living....

  • thank you very much

  • 29 years ago, Lebanon Virginia, Start of my senior year in high school with Brenda Rasnake on my arm. I miss those days so much. Life was so much better then. Things sure has changed.

  • Little towns like this are being destroyed all the time by walmarts sad so very sad

  • this song takes me to my childhood-which rings even more true...

  • My mom and dad had the original cassette this song was on, "They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To." The funny thing is, I had something like this happen to me a few months ago. I was walking around looking for work, and one of the areas I hit up was the Chehalis Historic District. The funny thing is, the buildings said one thing on their exterior, but when you stepped inside, there was something totally different. I guess it just goes to show that nothing stays the same for long.

  • Now that I'm 40 something this song gave me a chance to reflect on younger days

when life seemed so stressful not knowing we grow up so quickly. It really describes

life as a thing we should all cherish each and every moment as we all know at 40 something there are no guarantees.Kenny is coming to the tulalup casino in August and Yea I'm gonna be there.

  • I Absolutely love this song, I'm Only 22 but been listening to it since i was 10. Makes me Appreciate what time i do have with my friends and loved ones. How this song is so low on views baffles me. :/ THIS IS REAL MUSIC PEOPLE!

  • This song really hits home for me too. Last year, I visited my home stomping grounds, and everything's changed. The mall we used to hang out at is now a dead mall and slated for demolition, the community pools I worked at as a lifeguard or swam at in meets are closed and torn down, my friends are all married and moved elsewhere, and all the open spaces have housing developments and strip malls on them. I'm not going back again-it's not home anymore. I'll keep my memories instead.

  • @dragondancer1814 I had that happen to me back in april of this year. I have great memories of my N.J home but it has changed and I felt like a man without a country. But like you I had some great memories and it is no longer my home.

  • I love songs that make me cry. Recently I googled some of my old school friends I haven't seen for 25 years. I found most of them on facebook and other social media. Over the years they had developed and evolved into responsible adult citizens with wives and kids etc. whereas I am still a teen in a rapidly ageing body. God now I'm depressed, thanks to Kenny Rogers my life will soon be over without anything showing for it. May God have mercy on me for letting my life slip away so carelessly. Bye

  • @davycrocket1776 c'mon, you've still got time, you can do something for your heart-mind-soul for the next 20. maybe it would look better, much serene than, what you are feeling now. love and prayers

  • I love this song, TWENTY YEARS AGO, all your songs making me crying

  • Best Kenny Rogers song ever. Even though the song itself has some age, the message still holds true. I know my life was a lot easier back in 1991.

  • I sure miss the 80's. If I could go back then I would still have my Mom and Dad. Time flies. We are only on this earth for a very short time. Your here one day and gone the next. The memories is something that no one can ever take away from you!

  • I've been out of high school now 22 years and I think back to all that great times I had back then. This song has much more meaning now than when it first came out.

  • where are all my friend from 20 years ago????? :(

  • Chase is OK but not Chase's partner. LOL!!!

  • Is that Charlie Chase at 0:37?

  • @applepiegwendy Iol it does look like him but i dont think it is

  • @RareCountry2 It Is....i was in Nashville when this was made...

  • @applepiegwendy Great Song ! Love it ! The lyrics are very good ! Wonderful Video ! Thank you so much Gwendy for sharing ! Many thanks to RareCountry2 for this excellent upload ! 5*****+

  • @applepiegwendy I THINK IT IS. I STILL WATCH HIM ON CROOK AND CHASE, AND HE HAS GRAY HAIR NOW! JUST MY OPINION, BUT QUITE SURE.

  • @applepiegwendy

I believe that is Kenny Rogers' brother

  • i love this song i am in my late 50s.and things were easier and less complicated. we did not have to shred our mail just throw it away.and no such thing as ID theft.i grew up in the late 60s and 70s.and my parents never locked the doors at night before we went to bed.IMAGINE THAT.NOW we need three or more locks on the door.thank you for posting this song. it brings back memories .

  • As I look at this video, it looks a lot my little home town. I am sure it looks like a lot of little towns, but this is why this song is the PERFECT song! I am always on the road performing and have not been home in many years years, GOD I miss my old town...forty years ago....AWESOME job for posting this!

  • Goosebumps every single time.Song is some kind of sad.I think it is Kenny's best song next to World needs a Melody.

  • Wow, the guy in the yellow vest is my ex-roommate, David O'neill. I remember he had to fly back to Tennessee or someplace to shoot this but I don't think I ever saw the video.

  • what a song, 20 years ago from '87 was '67, right in the heart of the vietnam war, but life was simpler and better then. Rewind 20 years from now, 1991, life was certainly better then too.

Hard to believe that this song is referencing 45 years ago...

  • i miss the good old days everytime i hear this song !!

    but i'm only 19 hehe LOL !!

    great song from kenny !!

  • @annapotpot25 Wait till you're 50.

  • this song needs about 3 more verses!...just dont want it to end

  • i think it works for all generations.

  • Great song from Kenny's 80's heyday. My dad had the original cassette it came out on. I believe it was called "They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To."

  • this is kennys best song.beautiful lyrics and a haunting melody.this song never got enough air play.i want to thank you for posting this video

  • Awesome song!

  • I keep living this song io cant let go of the past idk if its normal or not thinking of going hm (nothern Minnesota) to just say goodbye mab it will help

  • What'd I'd give if they could take me back in time.......

  • I need to report a problem to Youtube....thers a dislike button on this page

  • Absolute jewel of a song.

  • Love it...I am 46 and this brings back alot of memories

  • Wow...very powerful ...I left the uk in 93 for a 6 month surf trip ...I never went back to live there again ..instead I live in Australia ....., time sure does fly..... Kenny really puts warmth and sadness in this song that's uplifting ... It's been nearly 20 years away for me ......life waits for no one seize your Reines steer your destiny ...l j Izzard

  • @icha1973

Why did you decide against going back to your home in the UK?

  • this song always makes me cry.

  • @LadyScorpio39

    Me too!

  • This is my favorite Kenny Rogers song.

  • @hintonmama

I like this one a lot too!

  • I didn't want you regret for being worked at drug store for 20 years later, so I took pill by yours to lead you remember only me to cost you being hurt but not & never time go-by on 8-31-87 Chiang Ching-Kuo being assassinated by dictators in Taipei while I heard Indiana PA local radio short brief news..I am tough to defeat dictators.

  • Thanks for introducing this song to me twenty years ago dad.

  • I remember the first time I heard this song. I was probably about 13 or 14 years old. (I'm now 35.) I was sitting in the waiting-room of my chiropractor's office and this song was playing. The lyrics were so moving that I remember hearing my mother sniffling and I held back some tears too. That sounds so outlandish - sobbing in a chiropractor's waiting room. But it's true. Whoever wrote this song did an outstanding job.

  • I do not know why this song doesn't enjoy the same fame as others. Even though what was 20 years ago is now 40 years ago, this is absolutely one of his best songs ever.

  • @pocu321 Its too painful...i almost break down and cry everytime i hear it...

  • @juanmart990 It's ok, wrap those warm memories around you and let them comfort you like a warm blanket, those memories are meant to be cherished, don't let them be painful, make them happy ones that comfort you in the present... : )

  • @pocu321 I agree

  • I can truly relate to this song.......I was in the army over seas from 1976 to 1978 and when i came back home,my whole town had changed......everywhere that i remembered was gone and most the people that i knew had left to live elsewhere,so it was like .....What IS this place??????Times change as do people change......that's a part of life that i have learned well!!!!!Thanks for this :-)

  • The problem is that the young people in the video all have 80s hair styles rather than 60s styles

  • @tsliao Thank you, Mr. Monk. : D

  • One of the most touching Lyrics written. Mr. Rogers sings it with feeling as only he can, I'm not exactly a fan, but he certainly can deliver. I'm going to get his stuff. Thank You Mr. Rogers.

  • i love this song i swear to God never knew it had a video rogers rock..

  • I love this song! never knew a vid was shot,, thanks so much.

  • Twenty years ago now means the '90s, I guess nostalgia just isn't what it used to be. I listened to a "flashback R&B" station and was hoping for some '70s music, but instead got stuff like "If you believe BLACKstreet isn't the name of a street but instead a soulful group, then you're tuned into the right station." Seing most '80s stuff (and increasingly some '90s items) on eBay called "Vintage" really shows how much time has passed.

  • Thanks so much for downloading this video. I just love this song!

  • I feel in love with this song when it came out ... 20 years ago. Back then I wasn't old enough to be 20, never mind remember that far back. I find myself thinking of this song often, now that I can clearly remember 20 years ago. I have a new appreciation for the song now that I'm older - and hopefully wiser.

  • @MaineShutterbug Yeah, I remember hearing this song in 1987 (I was in 1st grade so I was around 7 years old) and even then I knew there was this feeling of longing in the lyrics.

  • Twenty years. Hell, try 40 for me. Small time living in rural Va. Kenny nailed it. What a beautiful song. This is what powerful lyrics and a great melodies can create. A lasting song to lifelong memories.

  • Way to post this video. Probably one of the underrated Kenny Rogers classics

  • my dad loves this dude, this song was playing in my car and i liked it so i thhought i might check it out :D its awesome :)

  • How this song didnt gain the popularity that it should of is beyond me! What a great song! One of those song that obviously makes you reflect on your life and how quick the time goes.

  • Thanks for posting, but please re-post with stronger audio if possible...thank you.

  • Great Song!! so true,

  • 62olds 88!You are so right! I was thinking the same exact thing..it mirrors my town as i look back at it!... The 72 Centurion gives you a thumbs up!

  • I remember 23 years ago when this song was brand new- now i understand exactly how people in their 40s look back two decades.... I'm one of them today....

  • @62olds88 I couldn't have said it better!

  • @62olds88 I was thinking the same thing.

  • @62olds88 Ditto, my friend.

  • @62olds88 I'm 35 & already I'm nostalgic for the past 2 decades! I also grew up hearing this song on the radio.

  • @62olds88 me 2 me 2..how time flys

  • love kenny rogers...

  • i wish i went back in time so i can be with my ex girlfriend because she is the only one who i loved and i cant let her go i have tried so hard but i just cant

  • Great song. It can relate to any era or time. What if we could go back 20 years and make other choices in life. This thought is what makes this song so painful but true.

  • Maiella

  • I love this song!! I also love that Chicago sang in the background:)

  • Life WAS so much easier twenty years ago....AMEN to THAT brother!!!!!This is such a beautiful song and does make you think about how much simpler life was and the people that you knew then that are gone now and all are left are the memories!!!What were YOU doing twenty years ago?I had just met a lovely lady and we dated for three years and now she is my wife....17 years this December :-)

  • I get goose bumps at 2:34

  • Such a beautiful and sad song at the same time.

  • The actor playing "Young Kenny Rogers" is my moms new boy-friend, Marcel Blaze. Weird.

  • This video was done in my hometown, Clarksville,Tn. I was in Texas when I saw it. What wonderful memories it brought me. Back in the 1950s we got our hair cut at the barber shop in the video. Then it was Baker & Dowdy Barber Shop. The maniquines were in the window of French & Jones Department Store on 3rd St. The hardware was in the Clarksville Foundry Building . And Young Kenny was an old life long friend named Charley. And Yes Rarecountry2 they are look alikes. Gi s were @ USO.

  • We can go back in time, its called memories. Some good, some bad, we all have them. Great video. Twenty years from now, I won't be on this Earth. The Undertaker and I will become aquainted before that much time passes....

  • This type of song is timeless, no matter what year it was performed and whenever it is played. We all can relate to a period back in time during our younger years. Great song!

  • My all-time favorite Kenny Rogers song. I can't listen to it just once. I play it over and over ;)

  • Thank you for posting this RareCountry2. I remember watching this video on a Kenny Rogers special. I always love this song. Thanks again!

  • Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.- Mark Twain

  • Kenny hit #2 country, #15 AC in Billboard. God bless!

  • This song is like a coming of age story. Reflecting on the good times in your life and the days you remember what your good old days were like. Especially in today's world people don't talk to each other anymore it's all cell phones.

  • Kick ass song! Can you re-load with better audio?

  • I wish that there was such a thing as a time machine because I would like to go back 20 years ago. not only 20 years ago but I would like to go back to the day of the old M.G.M movies and get some autographs from all the old actors of the day, not just M.G.M but all the studios of the day.

  • My 20 year hs reunion seems like yesterday, A month ago I had number 40! Life is going by so very fast, enjoy each day you have been given on this earth.

Thanks for the posting of this wonderful song!

  • There is a man that is running down the hill at the beginning and the end of this video he looks like the canadian country singer / songwriter Wayne Rostad. And yes where does the good times go it does seem like yesterday,. Even though if some of the memories maybe good or bad.

  • I was fascinated by this song when it came out when I was a kid. Now that I hear it 24 years later, I finally understand what it means. Man, aging sucks....

  • Truely one of the 'greatest' (Country /Folk /Pop /Soul) singers of the 20th century... This song was my very favorite songs recorded by Mr. Rogers, rarely heard today!

  • I grew up hearing this song on the radio. One can tell it was recorded in the 1980s by the events he sings about (the Vietnam War, etc). Now another 20+ years have passed, so as of this post the events would be 40+ years ago.

  • I actually hardly ever hear it. Thanks for posting it.

  • That was the 1st time i heard this song and I love it

  • it has b een almost 20 yrs siunce i graduated highschool wow where does the time go

  • LOVE KENNYS MUSIC BACK THEN & ALWAYS WILL. I REMEMBER WHEN FRIENDS N I IN THE 70S ALWAYS PLAY HIS RECORDS MISS THOSE DAYS. MY FATHER MAY HE RIP NEVER DID LIKE KENNY I USE TO BUG HIM BOUT KENNY AND SAY YOU LOVE KENNY ROGERS HE SAY "LIKE I HELL I DO , DON'T THINK SO " LMAOOOO

  • What an awesome video and song. Absolutely love it. Thanks for posting it.

  • ty for this song havent heard it in years!!

  • Just a great song, lyrically powerful, and it's nice to listen to Kenny reaching back and hitting some high notes, the message is so universal, it's like Kenny is walking through everybody's hometown! So RareCountry2 thanks for the upload, You Tube kudos for the space, and be rest assured folks, this song will still be spot on in twenty years from now, HELL YEAH!

  • Hello RareCounty.I'm so glad you did upload this song which I consider KG's best song. Sad but also recalling what life was in the 60 and 70s..much more meaning to life for us all but especially teens. They do not know, sadly what they missed.Again,thanks..from Victoria,BC

  • The 80's were a mucb better time. This song says it all!

  • Great song, cherish the past but not so much that you don't live in the moment because in 20 years you'll look back at right now wishing you could live there again.

  • WOW.. this song is already 20 years old. As a race, have we learned anything since then? Sad but true, this song could be redone with video of our children who have gone to the middle east and died to win a war that cannot be won.

  • The song really brings back memories. Only it needs to be updated. The title and key line should now be 50 years ago.

  • Home again for my 20th High School reunion, the first time back in 20 years. This town, and my memories of it, flooded back to me again to the times I once knew, "20 years ago". The town, was the same with hardly any changes, but most of those I knew well then, were gone and moved on. All my memories from those days gone gather round me. What I give if they could take me back in time. Oh, It almost seems like yesterday ... where do the good times go? Life was so much easier ... 20 years ago.

  • oh my God`i am so glad someone loves this song as i do. i wore the 45 out when it came out.

  • Wow.. .written by two of the guys that wrote Steve Wariner's What I Didn't do!

  • I used to love this song. I wore out 3 cassettes I listened to it so much

  • his best song!!!!!! o m g

  • what record is this from??

  • Long live the classic country from Kenny!

  • thanks for posting...it is my favorite kenny rogers song...VERY hard to find...please always repost if it ever gets kicked off

  • Awesome song indeed. I just wish the quality was a bit better. But hey, it's here, I found it, and I'm happy so that's all that matters.

  • Life is but a vapor.

  • Always an awesome song

  • Thanks RareCountry2, this is one of my faves.

  • What a great song to reflect on the problems facing many today!!!

  • "Life was so much easier, twenty years ago". That is so true. I have some memories, but memories do fade. Good byes are getting harder now.

  • this is a classic:)

  • "How could we know he would never come back 20 years ago?"

  • Rare..... you definately aren't the only one that remembers this song. One of the best songs ever!!!!! it raises goosebumps every time I listen.

  • wow so many memories and Kenny song lots of them

  • This song makes me think about how quickly the years fly by. Take advantage of every moment.

  • thanks for the vid. it's very beautiful and surely I miss the old Kenny 20 years ago.

  • Thank you for posting this old vid, I figured it was lost, makes one live through past times good and bad..

  • T.T this song still makes me cry as i sing it. awesome. thank you for putting this up. Very very beautiful song, and a powerful reminder how short life really is.

  • 20 years has gone by fast -- so has 30 years Enjoy the memories as they happen

  • I looked all over for this video 2 years ago when my class had its 20yr Reunion. I'm glad you've posted it, RC2...even if it was too late for our slide show. GREAT TUNE!!!

  • Are you kidding? My God I remember this song like yesterday, and how I was so moved by it. You did the right thing by posting it for all of us that love the old beautiful country music. Thank you so much.

  • thanks for posting. a lot of us do remember. i graduated in 64'. several of my friends and i went for our military physicals at the same time. i failed because of a football injury my senior year. several of my friends went to NAM. one came home to be buried, one never made it back. a brother made it back but, is still haunted today by that war. i feel guilty to this day because i did not go. i think of them often.

  • @headredbone I read your post and I almost began to cry. The fact you feel this shows what a compassionate and good person you are. That was truly another lifetime ago. So let go of your guilt and live the next decades of your life to the fullest.
