You guys who say this or this battleship is the best you're all retarded, it depends how you use it and what you're up against. The Yamato never went head to head with an Iowa Class because it was against aircraft, and it took over 300 aircraft to sink it.
No battleship can or will ever top the Yamato. It is the largest and most powerful battleship of all time, and could have easily matched any ship of the US Navy in single combat. It's in a way unfortunate that she never got to duel an American fleet, but was instead sunk by aircraft.
@superpim100 I agree USS Iowa Rules. What if Shiano was not a carrier we would have 2 deal with 3 superbattleships. Good thing the japanese navy didn't build the super-yamato class battleship's with 20in guns
@thejapfighter- Any other battleship would have under the same circumstances. It could probably be said that many battleships could not have stood as much abuse as the Yamato did before sinking.
You are a complete failure...Iowa class sucks. They are pathetic exscuses for battleships, but don't get me wrong...they are better than the dirt on the floor Renown class (brittish made piece of garbage, lol!). The Yamato is well known as the greatest class of battleship in history, and the greatest naval vessel to ever be completed. Iowa's are fast but have less armor in every area. To a plane going 230-270mph a ships speed does not matter whether it is going 12 or 30mph it dies
@superpim100- Hey, listen, man. The Iowa Class battleships certainly were formidable- all battleships, especially of the US, had to be and were. But regardless of personal opinion or bias, it has to be noted that the Axis powers had the greatest battleships of the war and of all time. The Bismarck, the Tirpitz, and most especially the Yamato and the Musashi. I mean, the Yamato still holds the record of being the biggest battleship of all time.
@superpim100 Yamato gow owned by SHITLOADS of planes and it still put up a 8 Hour battle alone against 2 out of range carriers! In a fair fight of Yamato vs Lowa The yamato fuckings Pwns
@galloway6204- I'd more agree with that. It's not that American, or British, or German battleships are that bad... it's that the Yamato is that damn good. This ship was so badass it fired its main guns at American airplanes.
@superpim100 If Iowa came up against Yamato, Iowa would be pulverized. I mean, Yamato outranges and outguns Iowa, plus Yamato had far better armour. Iowa was faster though.
dude in this game the yamato was the best ship you could get for ship to ship. for ship to air you would need the iowa because it had stronger deck armor
The one thing that really nails you in these ship challenges is when you first start. It seems really easy because you don't take any damage in the beginning, and you are destroying every thing. But it gets so hard so fast. And you aren't so calm any more. Then you sink
@thejapfighter- What the fuck is this? "lol ye"? That is barely even distinguishable as a comment written in English! What were you trying to say? I shall translate. "Laugh out loud, yes". I don't see how you could possibly agree with that also-barely-literate comment byxpac93. If nothing else, the fact that the Japanese build the most powerful and physically largest battleship of all time should be proof that isn't true.
@xpac93- Yeah, which is why they were able to so successfully launch an attack on Pearl Harbor, almost take over the Pacific and Asia, built the two biggest and most powerful battleships of all time... and that's also why, today, they have Subaru, Honda, and Toyota among other things to their name and why their cars are routinely kicking the shit out of the once-formidable automakers in Detroit. Because Japan sucks.
@xpac93- There is no "Japan". So, dunno what you mean by "japn". Rest in peace, me? The fuck? I'm not dead.
Uh, way to go stealing "oh, the humanity" from the news guy who was, by the way, talking about that airship called the Hindenburg. Not Hiroshima. But regardless, yeah. Japan lost WWII and had two atomic bombs dropped on it. But they've come a long, long, long way since then. As illustrated by Toyota having the Corolla and the Prius and Chrysler having squat.
@Jurassic0Al Dude you are so right and Patriotic people dont realise how awesome this ship was in Raw Power and Size! AMericans say it "Sux" and that the Lowa was better even though It was robably not and when people argue that the Lowa is still afloat and the yamato isnt is because the Lowa was built in the late war when america was already winning by far and The yamato was stronger than the lowa but still not as strong as a whole American task force with no air or undersea cover at all!!
Oh, I beg to differ. Yamato was Lauched early on in WWII; making her an early war Battleship. The 1st Iowa class battleship was ready for duty by 1943, making it a Mid war vessel. While a two year difference may not sound like much, consider this: in war, technology is going to advance faster in 5 years of war than it would in 25 years of peacetime. With that in mind, in theory the USS Iowa was roughly 10 years more advanced than Yamato. And the proof...is in my next comment.
Iowa was designed with better materials and had more advanced technology thanks to the advancement in that timeframe previously mentioned. The Iowa's 16 inch Mk 7 shells matched the destructive power of the Yamato's 18.1 inch and were more accurate thank's to the American Mk 38 Fire control System (While the Yamato had no FCS from what I hear). Iowa had better damage conrol, a better AA output and was at least 6 knots faster than Yamato. Furthermore, Iowa could shoot and move at the same time,
While the Yamato couldn't (And by shoot, I mean with her main battery). The Iowa's had a better turn radius, and from what I hear, some people say that Comparing the Iowa to the Yamato would be like comparing the F-15 to Mig-15 (With Iowa being the F-15)
Statistically the Yamato and it probably would have one on a 1 on 1 fight. It had larger guns and was less narrow but that makes it longer. The Iowa was shorter and used a smaller calibur gun than the Yamato. It also had less armor that meant that the Iowa was faster.
The Yamato also had a longer firing range, but the Iowa had a better gunnery system, the Iowa's used radar aiming, the Yamato's were old fashioned human aiming.

18.1" shells on a destroyer? Total waste, they won't even explode, just rip throu it.

How in hell is the Yamato shooting down so many planes especially when under surface threat?
In the Ten-Go operation, she had 8 DDs and 1 CL and all together they managed to shoot down 10 aircraft between them
