Dude, Join CAP!! Civil Air Patrol is a great program. I want to go to the Air Force Academy too. CAP is great because it helps you with PT, it teaches you basic drill movements and even better, they let you fly an airplane! You have to be 12 yrs old to join. It doesn't cost that much either. If you are looking for a way to be somewhat prepared for the Air Force, join CAP!!!!!!!!! C/A1C cap, Tommy Carpener
@CarpenterClimber CAP is good, but JROTC is better. I'm in both. CAP (this is, ofcourse, based off my squadrons) tends to work as kind of an all uptight, unrealistic atmosphere that kind of died of it's use years ago, now just being an Air Force Fundraiser, but AFJROTC is sincerely there to develop you as all of a leader, follower, and person as a whole. Both are good and will help, but rotsy is better atleast where I am.
@Sasuake1000 Depends which squadron. I'm on a ANGB/CGAS and we get a bunch of fun events. Also, you can get a bunch of special activities. The main advantage to AFJROTC is that it has all high schoolers, which are ussualy mature. The porblem with most CAP squadrons is middle school kids who feel the need to overcompensate for being small and unintellectual, or older kids who hate middle schoolers because they are not "cool". But I'm in a great squadron MA-044.
@femdf CAP is NOT awesome. Never Say that. It is OUTSTANDING! The best Air Force program in the WORLD. Take this from a Cadet in Vandenberg AFB Squadron 101, CAWG.
work out! PT is a big thing in the air force we have a lot of failures because people arent keeping up with their physical fitness. especially now, the health and wellness center (HAWC) is cracking down big time. but for USAFA you especially need to be fit so like i said..work out! the USAFA has different standards than regular active duty but mainly work on your pushups, situps and your runtime. the run time should be about 10 minutes for a 1 1/2 mile but for USAFA i'd take it even lower.
im in the air force and basically for the academy..its no joke. i've looked into what it takes to get in as a civilian and its ridiculous. gotta have a presidential, vice presidential and i think a congressional recommendation. you need to be a completely rounded person (physically fit, top grades, awards, recognition, a good personality (not just a robot)) you need it all. if you do manage to get seriously considered you're gonna have an interview at colorado springs at the academy. good luck!
i am currently in the civil air patrol and it is a great program and i want to go to the air force academy C.A.P is an awesome program and it will teach u basic drill, physical fitness and military courtesies I suggest u join
I never knew SAR had any meaning besides Search and Rescue until I watched this Saturday. On Sunday I had a meeting with some instructors from the Academy. They kept saying something about a SAR and all I could think about was... A SAR? Search and Rescue? What's a a GR?
