  • That was exciting. What an ending.

  • @brandonok14 if you want to ban gay composers, you'll need to start with Tchaikovsky. Then there's Ravel, Barber, Britten of course, Szymanowski, Poulenc and Copland. That's a load of great music a man really shouldn't listen to if he wants to stay on the straight and narrow-minded.

  • @1234cottagedoor Not to mention nearly every other early 20th Century American composer.

  • @brandonok14 What about other sins? Composers who were drunkards, junkies, wife-beaters, cruel to their children, liars, cheaters, stealers? Should we be afraid of posting things by humans? What crazy world does your brain live in?

  • @Sveccha93 for the record, i do not think homosexuality is "wrong".

  • all chords are polyphonic.

  • @townsaid suppose he means polytonic?

  • At the beginning: a hint of, or tip of the hat to Ravel's 'Le Gibet' methinks?

Was this written before or after Ravel's piece?

  • @4candles This piece was written in 1915-1916, and Ravel's "Gaspard de la Nuit" was premiered in 1909, so it's possible!

  • I must play this someday...

  • "Nightfall" is at once mystery, wonder and exultation. Clouds of polyphonic chords drift by the expanse, giving way to a shower of climatic brilliance, followed by a romantic passage ever so emotive, then the air gently descends into an uneasy spirit of quiet again (ranging from p to pppp). Like the bewitching song of the Sirens, the listener is lulled into its celestial world and returned stunned, lost, awed and wanting more.

  • Realy great, i think he was kind of a genius

  • beautiful piece, the intro is so haunting. lol, but what happened at 2:00? sounded nice though, nonetheless.

  • Magnificently atmospheric composition,as are all the Roman Sketches.

I think Mr. Lewin's strident, ham-fisted interpretation completely prevents the piece's true beauty and mystery from being revealed.

His account of the Griffes Sonata is excellent however.

  • lovely, like a lone walk in the waning hours of a late March afternoon.

  • amazing composer, shame he died so young.

  • WOW, this is breathtaking!
