  • the language used in this serie of comments is very sad. It shows that you all are conflictive people, ready to pound at other dreatures. Shame on you!

  • nice video.. I have no idea about how these engines work, but all i know is that i will take a lot of knowledge and patience to handle this stuff. thanks for sharing... :)

  • Also notice how nexprotein28, the self confessed ship's captain (Who by his own admission only holds a bachelor degree in engineering) called the people who work on deck "morons". If he was a captian, would he call his crew morons?

How long would he last before being thrown overboard?

  • I can't believe there are people that think holding a bachelor degree in engineering makes them a master mariner.

I have a 4 year degree in music, but that doesn't qualify me to run an opera house...

  • nexprotein28 shut your fucking mouth. Try working in the deck department before talking shit. You sound like the engineer that got fired on my last ship. If you are so confident in saying deckies are a joke, then go get your 3rd mates licence, sail on it and come back to me. Try working locks on the Welland Canal or shoot an azimuth, successfully calculate it and correct the compass error. Besides, its the engine department that's becoming fully automated anyways.

  • I m sure its not an electronic governor, pls verify.

  • yeh tu pakistani jahaz lag raha hai

  • 3:35, what a picture...

  • Lol... That old man in the red working clothes was my last Chief Engineer^^

  • ECR using mechanism throttle that means governor not electronic system. Visually I see the governor not using electronic system but mechanism system. Fly wheel should be covered by cover safely. Starting air valve should be closely with governor not as shown in following the text. That is 2 stroke engine type the old ones. Slow speed rating. It is dock trial not mooring trial. OK

  • Sounds like an engine of a British rail class 60 when it starts and idles

  • Gotta love that nasty ass Guangzhou water, and the dock worker fast asleep.

My father was present during a drydocking in Guangzhou last year where a dock worker was killed by falling steel plate. Before his remains were even recovered, he was given a moment of silence by the workers, and then back to work for everybody.

    Truly a strange place.

  • motor suyu hava yaptı havasını alıyo.:)

  • could some please tell processes during bunking?????????????

i'm a young boy in the regional maritime university of ghana, studying MARINE ENGINE MECH

  • Skill sets involving housekeeping duty like you do and looking at a GPS and marking on a chart every half hour your position is LOW LEVEL SKILL!! One does not require 1 hour of training. Forget 6 years!!!!

Again what skill do you possess to demand even half the salary a Second Engineer on board deserves??

What trouble shooting on board are you capable off..apart from dialing the nearest Engineers number??

None. You don't possess a skill set.

  • Question to Masters? 1. Do you know how ships move? 2. Do you know how power is generated? 3. Do you know IOPP and IAPP equipment? 4. Do you know how FW is created? 5. Do you know how Cargo is discharged? 6. Do you know how winches run? 7. Do you know how the M/E is maneouvered in an emergency? 8. Do you know how emergency supply buses to GMDSS equipment run? 9. Do you know what a Solenoid Valve is? 10. Can you trouble shoot on any of these equipment? Answer: Nah we do house keeping duty.
  • @nexprotein28 LOL I agree absolutely!

  • @nexprotein28 Not everyone knows how a car works, but they drive it ok.

  • Good video, well done. Fortunatelly I am a ship Engineer and I understand what was all theese. But in ur video is not the best part of the engine. The best part is when u saw all engine from up.

  • sweet man nohabs the way to go or mtu

  • Does she cook???

  • 6 6 on,the crank case doors,a governerner wearing a red valve handle, a fly wheel without a safety gaurd. and that ship was on sea trials DFUCKIN ELL

  • everyone here is missing the whole point WHERE ARE THE ENGINGE RATINGS EAR DEFENDERS

  • Gigantic engine, and only 105 RPM.. That monster can really move some water!

  • a pathetic comment from nexprotein shud not be taken seriously he is one obsolete

    folk.

  • Why so? Do not Engineers shift the Captains arrse from point A to B. Don' Captains only basically steer ships? Are Captains not disallowed to navigate into ports without pilots? Fact is fact. Captains don't know how ships run.

  • Nah, i run a fleet of ships. I know the Captain is a dud on board. He knows nothing. A 14 ear old boy can be taken on bridge and taught what the Captain knows about 'ship handling' in someing less than 1 hour. Equipment handling only 20 minutes.

  • Bridge equipment handling takes only around 20-30 minutes to know how to work it. If you can handle our cellphone, you can handle Bridge equipment. No wait..mabe your I-phone has more features..

  • if you run a fleet of ships ,why hire a dud captain ? that's economically disastrous...a 14 year old boy is a liability to the company and dont use i-phone while navigating stay focus.

  • You don't get it. Equipment on Bridge is less complicated than handling an I-phone and it's features. Deck Officers are an obsolete profession. Imagine getting paid for housekeeping. Best is qartermaster types in charge of Navigation. A deck Engineer to replace a mate who knows nothing of stress and strain of loading. And C/E as executive head on board. Time to make the Captain 'walk the plank..'

  • Aah, you are just jelous because you didnt quallify for the sea captain master. ;)

  • No. My qualifications far exceed whats required to be a Ship Master. I hold a 4 year bachelors degree in Engineering and an MBA. Cadets can join after high school and become a mate without any formal degree or education. Point is steering a ship does'nt require any great skill set.

  • nexprotein28 > ".. Captain .. He knows nothing .."

You're the one who clearly knows nothing. Master Mariner (captain) license requires at least 6 years of study, exams, & experience - 1 year chief mate (requires 2nd mate's license, classes, & exams), 1 year second mate (requires 3rd mate's license & exams), 1 year third mate (requires 3 years seaman, 6-months as able seaman or boatswain or quartermaster, classes, on-board assessments, & exams). (continued next comment)

  • (continued from previous comment) Various Master Mariner licenses exist clarifying maximum vessel size. Obtaining each requires sufficient training with experience under a more senior ship master. Unlimited master's license allows operation of any vessel. Ship captain manages (and is responsible for) vessel operation, cargo operations, navigation, personnel, accounting, payrolls, inventory, compliance with requlations, and maintains ship's certificates & documentation.

  • Oh so sea time cleaning decks, painting and greasing become 'qualifying time for a Master licence'. LOL. Gimme a break. Do you even know what was happening in the video here? A Ship is now a COMPLETE Engineering operation. Only morons on deck don't understand it. Thats why the shortage of Engineers. You're trained really now on housekeeping duties. Tell me about your skill set level. Whats your skill? You don't obviously comnprehend Engineering one bit.

  • nexprotein28 > "Oh so sea time .."

Are you high, drunk, or an idiot? I ask only because you claim to "run a fleet of ships," yet don't seem to have a clue about the federal licensing requirements for the personnel required to perform that task. If you truly believe a 14-year old boy could operate a container ship this size (in video), you must be the latter of the three. As for my "skill set," I'm a college grad (Elect. Eng.) & retired Coast Guard senior officer with considerable sea duty.

  • @stewartx5 retired coast guard officer....... well, did they teach you this language at the US coast guard training centre....... officer....?

  • Is the exhaust valve indicator included in cylinder head or is it set on the atmospheric cock

  • The Exhaust valve indicator that is shown here is mounted on the top of the exhaust valve housing, all modern large 2 stroke engines use hydraulics to open the valve and an air spring(A piston acts on a cushion of air, when the hydraulics open the valve the air is compressed, this then shuts the valve). The indicator is only there to check that all is right after a first start(or problems) and is simply a rod that sits on top of the air spring. It should be hooked up when not in use.

  • i would like to become like them

what should i do.Now i'm in high school

    studying mech. engineering.

  • if you want to be like them you will have to study marine enginering by enrolling in a maritime academy. Its tough work though but it pays excellent.

  • Do not join a ship as a Marine Engineer. Not till a Captain retains executive command. Ship Captains do not KNOW how ships run! But a person who knows nothing is supposedly commanding a ship. How ships are powered and move A to B..Captains have no clue. How they are steered..no clue. How cargo is discharged ..no clue. Captains are obsolete folk. Working skills =Doing what a 5th grader can do in 1 hour flat. Marine Chief Engineers must take over executive command over ships.

  • Im A marine engineering officer and i would thoroughly recommend this job to anyone, if you like engineering/science/taking stuff apart to see how it works go for it.

  • thank you for the video!

  • who is the wooompa loompa in red?

  • How old is this exact engine?

  • Nice video! Very informative, with the labeling of the various mechanisms, on engine operation!
