  • Saw them in hollywood bout ten years ago.....i have to say, she was just sooo lovely.

  • such a beautiful video

  • Great, great tune. Nice promo film. That is one groovy "Luncheon Vouchers" sticker on the cafe window ! Very retro. It even tops the brief glimpse of a Sheffield United mug in one of the other films. Is this St. Etienne's remake of "La Dolce Vita" ?

    Really, really good.

  • One of my new favourite songs!

  • Classic 90´s tune, but kinda 60´s sound. Excelent mixture.

  • Barry wee Triumph herald open top ! Anybody know why the original singer left/was asked to leave ! BTW ! Great song ! Peace Ye`All !

  • good times, South Gate 1991....

  • This song still sounds bad ass today as it did in 92' when i first heard it on KROQ.

  • Just discovered this group. Fantastic. So sick of commercial radio. What other bands with similar sound should I look for. Need to fill my ipod with new stuff

    Thanks

  • @819home Try Dubstar, they've done some awesome stuff. "Stars" is their best known track.

  • @819home

    Stereolab, and lots of it!

  • @819home when you discover a band that you like and you want to find more of that kind of music ... just try the popular well documented website .allmusic.com ...

you write the name of the band that you want to know more information ...and then you will find a lil' list of some other more or less similar bands

  • One of my favorite things about Saint Etienne is their ability to carve well-fleshed stories through their musical styling, if that makes any sense. It's rare to find such atmospheric, quality pop music.

  • Yes starfish that's the one, cool compilation of music, take it work, bar work london everyones cool enjoyin' tunes, then some cunt rips it off.

Saved the hedge run for the Talbot Rage against the machine and nik naks...fluoro food yummy.

  • WHO damn is the "non liking" person ?

  • @NaturalBornDancers They can run, but they can't hide...

  • @NaturalBornDancers - some fag

  • this takes me wayyyyyyyyyyy back, happy days,,,,,,

  • first time i heard st etienne was at paragon afterhours on south beach the song was only luv can break your hart.

  • F*** Nirvana. Saint Etienne owned the 90s.

  • @mrcrymnd I wished more people realized this.

  • Soundtrack to my life.

  • love them!

  • Best summer come down track you will EVER hear....xx

  • beautiful

  • This track is off of Foxbase Alpha. Lately, I've been listening to the version from the Richard X updated Foxbase Beta. The bass in the Beta version is even more pulsing. It is also good to hear the end of the sample from the beginning of the song. The sample goes: "what you have been waiting for..." at the beginning. On the Beta version, it is completed with "bingo time" --- which I find immensely humorous.

  • yeeeeeeeeeeesssssssss thhhhhhhiiiiiiiisssss issssss grrrreeeeetttttttt

  • Never seen this version before! Thanks so much for posting!

  • did u have to have mortages and kids?no one forced you.

  • Masterpiece !

  • one of the best song ever

  • Wonderful chillout song.

  • This song is so awesome it almost has that 60's and Abba sound of innocence combined with it, ahhhhh so happy and brings such happiness to ones soul! I am so greatful to have lived in the 80s'such a magical time. I too was born in 64, year of the Dragon :)

  • @yetibiker08 I thought that was the year of the dog?

  • oh man!! i looooove this song

  • probably the best song of all time and the best video as well can't beat it on any aspect really

  • Sarah 'Cracking' Cracknell

  • Thanks Saint Etienne for sampling the late great Dusty Springfield!!!!!

  • Sample of Dusty Springfield's "I Can't Wait to See My Baby's Face".

  • @turbo1964 amazing how much the intro to dusty song and st etienne is the same ,totally shock ,,but should not be really !!for me it's a real wow

  • Reminds Me of when I worked in Covent Gdn. . Great Memories

  • The best come-down track EVER!

    Makes me smile...

  • everyones saying this is like a summer song, always seemed well dark to me. like the whole first album

  • @louiecostello

How can the hook "Nothing can stop us now!" be dark ffs!! lol

This song is sweeter than a summer breeze...Or summat...

  • @louiecostello totally agree. very dark. the whole first album was very dark also i think.

  • I love this

  • senti-mental,massive good vibes eminating from within the bassline ensemble.timeless

  • The perfect summer song.

  • Ditto on Starfish 05's comments--ahhhhhhh, my sentiments exactly. The song--and the mood of the video, too--take me straight back to the liberty and adventure of college days (UC Berkeley), looking at San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge from my apartment and dancing around the room with my roommate. Sweet.

  • Yea baby! Brilliant!!! Lets go for a drive!!!

  • Only the greatest choone, like eva! I love these people x

  • I love this song!!!

  • This track reminds me of a time when I was stll a young man, could still go clubbing to Back to Basics in Leeds, and I didn't give a dam.

  • super 8 rules!

  • I love days like these, days out, laying in the flowers, clear, warm sunshine, cafe food, grapes in the park, feeding the ducks, dancing to all those tunes that play forever in your head, singing along with Sarah Cracknell and the boys while she sings out sweet inspiration in the back seat.

  • fox base alpha is one of the all time best debut albums out there ;)

  • @shadygiz Yeah, they never came close to that again.

  • @shadygiz well said.

  • Blimey, it's like a funky episode of Randall & Hopkirk!

  • anyone no where i can buy this song..... cant find on i tunes????

  • @lynzrossmw Try searching for the album 'Fox Base Alpha'..if you like the 60s summer Hammond funky drummer sound you'll like this track too: Spring..here's a mix of it : watch?v=WtMKMAB31mw (put the you tube prefix in yourself) The album vocal is nicer in my HO...poptastically megamungus mate!

  • @lynzrossmw Found the album on a site called lavamus. Search on their homepage for: Saint Etienne Foxbase Alpha. You have it on my tried and tested basis (if that means anything!) it's a trusted site, good mp3 quality and ridiculously cheap...

  • ohhhhh yeeeeeeeeeahhhh

  • damn i love this song...

  • oh yeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • What a smooth track, brings back memories of attending RCC Norco campus, damn Christy you were so smoking hot!

  • This music bewitch me deeply !

  • awsome just awsome djs should be brave this weekend and rek the joint with this

  • Great tune that has stayed fresh sounding. Love the vid a first time view for me, they were all about quality weren't they. Northern soul samples aplenty. One is 'time is right for love' anyone know the others.

  • @phrayzar "I can´t wait to see my baby's face" - Dusty Springfield. Brilliantly executed sample if I may say so.

  • Arrr teenage years and St. Etienne.

  • St Etienne is awesome, so were the Utah Saints!!!

  • you know that old mixtape that you had way back then, when you'd take out your future wife to be on a sunny sunday afternoon to a country pub, in your triumph spitfire, hood down, hedges flashing by, and it sort of encapsulates a care-free period of your life before mortgages and kids came along?

well, this track was the 1st track on that mixtape, with massive attack's "be thankful" being the 2nd track...

    happy happy days indeed.

  • @starfish05 Happy days indeed, Starfish :)

  • I hate to ruin it for you, but has anyone really experienced what you're describing? I'm 21 and I don't think I'm living a carefree life just because I have no kids or mortgage... rent and tuition though...

  • @tnearing yr profile sez ur 31 ... ? sorry to ruin it, hey, maybe it's just a typo ; )

  • I made up a date that would allow me to claim to be over 18 to watch flagged videos back when I was but a minor.

  • @tnearing well that's fair enough ; ) accha bakht with your project ; ) Fight The Power !

  • @starfish05 totally agree - sunday afternoons when all you had to worry about was "have i got enough Rizla's for the rest of the day" with my girlfriend ......at uni....student days ....aaaaah :)

  • @starfish05 your right there mate, its sad when u really think

  • @starfish05 Ha-ha! perfect... I even bought this on vinyl as I was still on the Anti-CD camp. The things you care about when you were 23.... (!)

  • @starfish05 Which version of "Be Thankful"? The album version or the single remix by Perfecto?

  • @starfish05 Fucking kids!

  • @starfish05 So true, except it was never the future wife, just the future shag ! crude, but true......................

  • @starfish05 No mobile phones, no internet, crackly tapes in dodgy answer phones, no caller ident if people forgot to leave a number, grotty photo-copied fanzines, a fortune spent printing fly-posters to generate a "buzz". It seems like more than 20 or so years ago in lots of ways (!)

  • A classic, been looking for the origional video for ages, cheers.

  • How soon before the audio is removed for this post too?

  • I'm still in love with Sarah Cracknell after all these years...bit sad, i know, but true

  • Thank you for posting this!!!!!!!!!!!! <3<3<3

  • I like this even though it'snot my kind of pop

    clean aftertaste :)
