  • i was so fascinated by this movie, i wish it never ended...

  • well this version seems a heck of a lot more fun than the recent one- finshed the book last week and i loved it! <3

  • THIS IS DA SHIT MAN B-)

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVE IT!!!!!!!

  • I just looooove this movie, and this is the best version of Jane Eyre ever!!! :)))))

  • I really like this. This is the best adaption so far.I can´t get enough of it.

  • Dear God!

the video cuts off so suddenly!

I was leaning in closer to my computer screen then .. BBC WORLDWIDE pops up ! haha

    thanks for the vid anyway!

  • @SakuraSymphony Me too

    hahaha

    Rochester is so... everything.

    GOD!

  • awwwwww! <3

  • okay is it just me, or did anyone else expect him to say "Farewell Mr Rochester" after she said he could reply with the same?

  • this film is ridiculously good!

  • Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender are the best Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester in my opinion!

  • so much better than the new film!

  • 2011 Mr Rochester (Michael Fassbender) did cause me to drool big time but...Toby Stephens will forever BE MY MR ROCHESTER!!! :D

  • Can someone explain why Jane is speaking with a cockney accent?

  • Toby Stevens still the best Rochester, 2011 gets the thumbs down from me

  • This is my favorite version of the movie! But the book exceeds them all! :) I prefer Jane Eyre to all of the other classic romances.

  • I haven't seen the whole movie, only this excerpt but what strikes me is that both their acting (mostly his though) does not fit at all. I don't know, but to me it seems weird. About the looks: She's quite plain enough and though I do not find him particularly attractive, he is too good looking for a Mr. Rochester.

I love the book and I love watching the different movie adaptions of it!

  • I've just read this scene and had to re-watch it! And for the haters, Jane should be plain, and at least Ruth has an interesting face. Okay Toby is a bit yum, but no cinematic Rochester has ever been unattractive enough. Though Orson Welles is probably the best likeness to the book.

  • the best adaption ever never mind the one new , this one is the best far!

  • This was one of the best adaptions of Jane Eyre. I could not erase this movie from my mind for a long time after. well done..

  • Damntoby stephens.....youmarried man :'( hahaha. Oh god

  • damn I love my name

  • @lordedvard8 And that is?

  • @Sandy4111 actually no, I was to the movie yesterday in cinema and I was quite excellent, and the acting was perfect too

  • @lordedvard8 I mean the movie was quite excellent -.-

  • Woah dude, Mr. Rochester out of the bag! I thought he wasn't supposed to be good looking

  • Jane is too ugly and Edward is too handsome :)

  • Honestly I don't really care how well they portray Jane or Rochester physically. Lots of people are complaining that Ruth is simply to tall to play Jane, and Rochester is too handsome...

Well I say aren't you picky?! I'd rather have a tall Jane and a handsome Rochester with fabulous chemistry than a pair of dull masses with stone expressions. Jane Eyre is all about the love between two souls, despite statuses, physical appearances, and wealth. Its absolutely beautiful

  • This is nothing like the original in character, but it doesn't have to be like the original to have my love!

  • TWO WEEKS!!!... He can't even imagine spending that much time away from her!

  • BECOME A FAN OF PERIOD DRAMA MOVIES ON FACEBOOK :)

  • I find them to be the best couple for this role. They compliment each other well.

  • @93ravz yes much much much better then the 1996 version

  • @kiekie84 what do u think of the 2011 couple?

  • @93ravz I'm not sure I'll have to answer that when i see the movie.. i will say however that once i see something that blows me away such as this couple here it's gonna be a hard one to beat so the 2011 version really has to top it off and wow me even more then this did.. and ya know i really don't know if they can do it but if they do! I'll be very impressed! i will say the 1996 version was a no win for me

  • cuz in the1996 the couples didn't convince me that they were truly in love plus many of the cast were to happy also it was a happier brighter version then this one and i didn't care for happy sunniness of it all... were as this one seemed to have a shadow over it a grayness to the whole film if you will....and that i loved!

  • however the new 2011 version from the trailer that i saw seemed to have a really good mix on both light and dark bright and gray but we'll see....cuz for me and others out there it's hard for us to just tell a movie simply from a trailer lol :)

  • that´s the best version

  • I really don't like this version. I'm not a fan of who they casted for Jane. She is too heavy- don't accuse me of calling her fat cause I'm not. In the book Jane is described as extremely thin. I also think her voice is too low and her accent should be better. That is all.

  • @FigtheMusicLover

I agree that she isn't small enough, but if I'm not mistaken, she is English. So maybe you were envisioning a different English accent?

  • Okay I'm gunna set the record straight I honestly think this is not as good or anything compared to the 1996 one. But dont hate or dislike anything I say because its my opinion for all you immature people out here.

  • who the hell would dislike this video? seriously stupid poeple

  • Poor Mr. Rochester, the whole reason why those people are in his house is because of Jane and now that she is leaving he is stuck with them. hahah I'm sorry but that is kind of funny.

  • @evybeth92

I know. It's so funny when you read through the beginning of the book, and you realize why Rochester acted the way he did. To me, it seems like he fell in love with Jane from the moment he met her....which set the tone for every future dealings he had with her.

  • @evybeth92 In the 1997 version, it was revealed that he sent them home the day after she left. But that's still funny :D

  • This particular version of Jane Eyre is my favorite - loved the chemistry between this Jane and Rochester!

  • Great movie & wonderful acting. Awesome novel.

  • Ooh, Mister Darcy! Ooh, Mister Rochester!

  • oh..they are so cute together :D

  • why is everyone comparing twilight and jane eyre in the same category? i'm a fan of both but for the love of god please stop. 1.Mr rochester and edward C shouldn't even be compared, they are totally different in personality. 2. THEY ARE IN COMPLETLEY DIFFERENT GENRES! JE- romance and mystery, Twilight - romance and fantasy. stop dissing twilight and enjoy the beauty of JANE EYRE

  • I enjoy their chemistry the best out of all the other movies and mini series'

Toby Stephens has Rochester spot on in my mind

  • very very well...emotional...this smiles on cheaks look geat...

    Sir Toby Stephens look amazing...

I love the story of Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte...

  • HOT!!!!!:) They deserve each other:)

  • @Elliebet Her dreams are TOTALLY hot. We need a movie that will play them.

  • love Toby Stephens in this he is amazing

  • I always loved this part-I LOVE YOU MR ROCHESTER-not to forget Mr Darcy-even though he has nothing to do with it!

  • Comment removed

  • he made this rochester seem so sexy and suave ... great adaption , this part was actually quite charming

  • splendid

  • The more I see Mr. Rochester the MORE I LOVE HIM!

  • "Now I see it. You're going to prevail upon this miserable family to find you a new situation. Ungrateful girl, admit it!"

This was one of my favorite scenes from the book, too. So glad the screen writers captured the spirit of it for this film.

  • Definitely one of my favorite scenes in the whole book. I love how he asks for all his money back and she just hides it behind her. AHH they're so CUTE! =]

  • Except for the parting scene -- post-wedding fiasco -- this was the perfect adaptation. That scene belonged in "Bridget Jones" or "Gossip Girl", not a classic Victorian novel!

Agreed, Stephens is a very good Rochester. :-)

  • @therubysinger I thought she was in this adaptation. Maybe not the actress, but the portrayal of her. I personally think she looks quite young.

  • @therubysinger I was SOOOO disappointed with the new one!!! :( Atleast I still have this version! (Toby Stephens makes such a good Rochester!)

  • What the hell is wrong with advertising???

  • @bmbleB95 He's just scared that if Jane advertises then she might leave for real, and he doesn't want that

  • @evybeth92 Ahh, makes sense now. But it still doesn't explain why Mrs. Fairfax laughed, too...

  • @bmbleB95 well, jane's initiative to find a job through advertising shows her desire to be independent. it would have been easier for jane to let mr. rochester to find her a new position, and mrs. fairfax, as a person with older view of the world, probably cannot understand why jane simply does not take that option. she cannot understand why jane wants to be independent.

  • @bmbleB95 It's called money -- YouTube needs money.

  • 3.35 makes me wanna purrrrrrrrrrrr :D

  • i loved this book...its my favorite book ever...charlotte was a genius

  • I loved this version, but I did not liked the girl that played Jane Eyre......IT'S HER MOUTH...was very distracting......

When I see a love story I like to see prety faces...

  • @arianna19742000 i agree too, but Jane & Edward are not handsome people. they are plain looking people. i think the actress matched it well, haha. the actor, he's tooo handsome! haha.

  • @arianna19742000 i know i was thinking that too. like in the proposal, she's crying and her mouth is so wide and square shaped i kept staring at it.

  • this is my favorite jane eyre version EVER, and is also very cute how he's going to miss her :(.

  • @evybeth92 it is mine as well. Best version ever. The chemistry between the actors will never be duplicated

  • Comment removed

  • @PumpkinSpicedLatte romantic and this is a very good adaptation i think.

  • I love that they turned the dialogue playful instead of a depressing conflict (as I've seen in other movie versions).

  • So a girl in my class asks, "Is that thier way of flirting?"

    Bahaha.

Duh! Can't you see they want to get into eachother's pants? ;)

    I want what they have.

  • Whoever picked this scene sure knows what they're doing. What a place to end! All that unresolved tension . . . the look on her face . . . if this doesn't make you run out and watch the movie, nothing will.

  • And @mariarochester sorry but @ruuj90 said nothing foolish or uncalled for. MANY of us feel your comparison is insulting. We could back up our opinions, if we had more space and a more appropriate place to go into detail. I won't even get into the subject of writing quality, i'll just point out that Jane Eyre is a STRONG, independent character, despite her inferior social class. She also makes the choice to walk away from the man she loves, when her morals and self respect are at stake.

  • Sorry @Songsmirth, have to agree with @LCMac3 here. The Brontës were all brilliant writers. Originality, passion, poetic expression. Meyer doesn't have the vocab to describe things without using same verb/adjective 3x on same page, AND took her story elements from so many sources. Only original idea she had (that i know of, but she might have stolen that too) is the glittery vampires thing. Sorry it's just literary critique. Enjoy whatever you like, but don't insult Brontë by comparing them.

  • PHWOAR

  • I agree... the best Jane Eyre on film in my opinion...and I've seen them all!

  • I remember first watching this scene giggling and squelling!! It's always been one of my favourites between Jane and Rochester in the book, and it was played really well here....both actors brought something new and fresh!

  • @lcmac3 yes i agree wid u

  • He was such a good Rochester. SWOON!

  • Best Jane Eyre ever.

  • @seldomseen2009 Absolutely!! :)

  • "I don't want change!"

Why do I love that line...?

  • best version ive seen so far.. actors were great! that is the mr rochester i imagined while reading. lines well delivered! this is so dedicated to the book.

  • You could cut the sexual tension with a knife in this scene. But LOVE this scene.

  • "Don't go Jane."

  • Oh, Rochester. Screw Edward Cullen, you're the only Edward for me... :)

  • @TheSecretBella oh but doesn't mr. darcy beat all of them?!

  • @fireflies92 I don't know! I am starting to love Edward Rochester more! AH!

  • @TheSecretBella i love that despite your nickname you prefer this edward... i approve it although this edward is mine :D

  • Oh my....a new version of JE is about to break in NYC, the poor actors, I almost pity them! ..even Judy Dench - the acting monster that she is - has a hard time shining in it as Ms. Farifax.. and may very well remain the best piece of th movie. The other two I am afraid just disappear compared to Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens. This version has set the bar WAY to high. And the sound track...amazing how a sound track can just capture a mood and an atmosphere (let alone, your soul).

  • @MariannaNYC09 i don't know about that...

while toby stephens rocks as rochester, i think michael fassbender (the new rochester in the new movie) will hold himself up pretty well against him with his own portrayal of rochester. i just saw a few clips of movie, and in one or two of those clips did he really impress me. the movie seems to hold more true in dialogue to the book than this series was. while he might not beat stephen's portrayal, his rochester will not be forgotten.

  • @MariannaNYC09 mia (the new jane in the movie) on the other hand will probably be overshadowed.

  • @MariannaNYC09 Yes, this was a good movie but dont just bash the new one so easily. Micheal Fassbender is a brilliant actor and he will definitely be just as good as toby. I dont know about the other jane, but dont judge before you've even seen it. Micheal Fassbender is certainl NOT a "poor actor."

  • "Ungrateful girl!"

    "Devil you will! Advertise."

haha omg I love Toby Stephens!

  • Oh who cares about the age...it's the chemistry that matters and theirs is just perfect. It made the the movie more interesting, unlike the 1996 version which was boring & dull! The chemistry there was just bleh! In my opinion this, 2006 version is just perfect. Kind of worried about this 2011 version though, i'm not really feeling it.

  • toby is so sexxxyyyyyy

i have such a big crush on him and he's old enough to be my dad!

  • Comment removed

  • I love this scene! It's one of the best!

  • AHHH I HAVE TO COMMENT AGAIN I JUST THINK ITS SOO BEAUTIFULL IM DYYYIIINNNGG

  • this is seriously one of the best movies ever i love it soooo much and i've probably seen it like 7 times I JUST LOVE IT SO MUCH and this is my FAVORITE scene

and the book is soooo good too AHHHHHHH

  • He is so charming and seductive, i wonder how she could possibly leave him...

  • he's like an adorable little kid aaha

  • @ddelfao I totally agree =)

  • I watched this 2 years ago.. before Twilight even existed. I'm amazed how that word invades almost every romantic story on youtube. Guess what? IT'S ANNOYING.

  • this rochester is way sexier than dalton's rochester..toby stephens was a good choice to play the part, this is my best part of the series...thank you bbc for this adaption!

  • I cant promise you, she is dying.

This conversation is funny. They are flirting, haha.

  • i love this part

  • Forget the knife. You'd need a chainsaw to cut through the sexual tension in that scene.

  • How can Jane just stand there and not jump on him? I'm finding it hard...Mr. Rochestere is the sexiest bloke ever...

  • @TheFloatingBox i guess thats the whole beauty of it the two of them can actually compose themselves. classicccccccccccccc <3

  • I must have watched this scene a thousand times but it is just as brilliant as the first. I will always love the Timothy Dalton version but film wise this is so much more entertaining. I mean how can she leave after that, I would never have left that spot again.

  • "..don't go Jane..."

    What dying aunt?!

  • "Don't go, Jane." Augh, I melt every time. Toby Stephens will always be my favorite Mr. Rochester. Best scene in the whole movie, in my opinion.

  • Best part of the book. It is so playful and realistic and adorable.

  • omg god. how edward cullen than rochester?

Rochester: complicated character and very original.

Edward Cullen: creepy, very, very old, hormonal, not human, ate people, kills animals (someone call RSPCA), so cruelty to animals, and, oh yeah, he SPARKLES.

  • This scene never gets old! lol

  • "DEVIL YOU WILL!"

(HEHEHE, I LOVE THAT PART, OMG I LOVE IT!)

  • You know what else? Rochester is immoral compared to Edward. He would have married Jane and ruined her and their children had people found out. Edward leaves Bella so she can have a normal, human life. He would have remained alone for all his exhistance out of his love for her. He loved her more than himself. R lies to Jane and would have commited bigotry(sp). Even after she finds out R tries to get her to go off with him. Still selfish. So please tell me, who is the most moral of the two?

  • @Songsmirth

bigamy. bigotry is racial intolerance. Rochester is a fully formed and complicated character, and characters making mistakes and doing wrong is the mark of an evolved and well written book, where the author understands the importance of characters that echo life, and with the assumption that there is an audience who will understand that when they read it. Very unlike Meyers prose, which wants the characters to do no wrong for fear of disillusioning the young readers.

  • @Songsmirth may i add Ed as perfect n flawless as he is n as far as fiction goes he seems too unreal dont get me wrong im an Ed fan n i love him n evrything but R seems like a more real believable chacracter n to compare him to ROCHESTER? seriously? R is a HUMAN! with all the flaws of a human and his flaws r literally too adorable to be called flaws in the first place!! whereas E is a VAMPIRE of course he has to be perfect n ervything the book is targeted at teens! theres my entire case! lol

  • @mariarochester Dont want to be rude honey but for the love of GOD, stop insulting literature. Your argument makes no sense. An unrealistic character who isolates his ladylove from her friends and family and watches her as she sleeps without her knowledge. That is no hero. That is a sick pervert. Enough said.

  • @ruuj90 im sorry i dont wanna be rude either but would u like to reread my comment before u accused me of "insulting literature" ur accusation is totally uncalled for and to me especially offensive. im sure my argument makes perfect sense only if u actually read it properly n watsmore it's simply just an expression of opinions and im sure u too r entitled to ur opinions such as "... That is a sick pervert..." but pls do read comments before u reply to avoid making a fool out of urself.

  • @ruuj90 OMG that's how I thought of it too! However, I did like Carlisle. Funny how she can write her minor characters really well but her main ones suck. Weird huh? Really I thought it would have been interesting if she ran off with Dr. Vampire. it would have been much more entertaining. Or she could have stopped with Book 1 that was actually good. It was the others that made no sense.

  • Best adaptation EVER! Absolutely love it!

  • If he said don't go like that to me I'd stay on that staircase forever!! Love this version!

  • "Do you think because I am poor, plain, little and obscure that I have no heart".....

  • This is definitely one of my favourite scenes from the whole series! Such witty and flirtatious dialogue ~ love it!

Also, I wholeheartedly agree with pretty much every comment before mine. I love this Jane Eyre adaptation and Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens are absolutely fantastic in their roles!

  • Mr Rochester and his quirkiness are too adorablee hes literally the cutest character ever written in literature!!!!!!!!!!!! :) lol

  • @mariarochester

    yes i agree!!!

  • Jane: But you'll still owe me five.

    Rochester: *sly eyebrow raise*

    Then come back for it.

    Me: *choking on cereal*

  • Trust the BBC to make yet another excellent adaptation of one of the greatest works of literature ever to grace our bookshelves....

  • This one is poorly cast! Rochester is a tad too young and not nearly plain enough, and Jane is WAY too old--she's supposed to be 18 and he about 20 years older. The 1996 version is more accurate as far as the cast.

  • @shineyourlight55

Umm, Toby Stephens was about 37 when Jane Eyre came out. Ruth Wilson was 23 I think. I'd say if either of them were miscast based on age alone, it would have been Ruth Wilson being a bit too old rather than Toby Stephens being way too young. However, age is definitely not the only thing, or even one of the most important, looked at when casting.

  • @Gemmabellalizzieanne Their chemistry alone is enough to know that they were very aptly cast in their respective roles. Perhaps the "1996 version is more accurate as far as the" AGE OF "the cast" members equalling that of the original characters. BUT WAIT, in 1996 Charlotte Gainsbourg (Jane) was 25 and William Hurt (Rochester) was 46.

  • @Gemmabellalizzieanne To me, it would seem that the age of the cast in the 1996 version was even more removed from the original character's ages than those in the 2006 version. While you may feel that the 1996 version was better cast than the 2006 version, although I would severely disagree, the decision simply cannot be made on the age of the actors alone.

Aside - I wish they would allow longer replies so I wouldn't have to break it up like this.

  • I can't stop looking at his hair!

  • I love how when Jane goes "You have company, sir" Rochester gives this heaving gasp obviously saying "don't remind me"

  • I've watched Jane Eyre a thousand times!

    Can't get enough!

Mr. Rochester is the mannnn! Haha

  • i love htis movie, i own this movie and is the truest to the book.

  • hahahahaha, i love mr. rochester...give me one of him please!

  • @dendara100 I totally agree

  • she totally should of taken the first offer.

  • I die every time i watch this... it's like I want to laugh and scream from happiness or something. The brilliant book and these great actors... I feel like I'm there, nexto to them. Aaagh... ♥

  • i love the way he says 'I have need of it.'

  • perfect!!

    i love this scene:DDDD

  • This version is just... perfection. The actors are so... perfect. *explodes from lack of words*

  • "Don't Go...What will I do without your help?" That's all a girl wants to hear, why can't more guys be like that???

  • @ssparrow331 because the second we say that, you get alot more power and confidence over us. thats why =P

  • @ssparrow331 Could you imagine if Jane, at particular moment, would've stayed for 3 months? He would've lost his mind like he did towards the end of the movie.

  • i just finished this book and watched the miniseries from 1983 with Timothy Dalton and Zelah Clarke and i lalalalal LOVED IT!

  • is always nice watch this book adaptation no matter what actors are playing the roles, yes this book is that good

  • *fans screen, heads for shower*

  • I watch this every Christmas. :) Best adaptation of one of the best books in the world. :)

  • I don't know if I actually want to see the new adaption coming in March. This version is perfect, even though it sometimes differs a little bit from the novel. I'm scared the new version might ruin my interpretation of these actors and their chemistry when I read the book (over and over again).

  • oooohhh i can't believe it stopped there! i want to see wat happens though i read the book, but it's nice to see it interpretated. even more if it's one of your favorite scenes, as this is mine.
