Hello Lady Grey ,knowledge of family history is important, all of my grand fathers were of French heritage, except for one,and they all married Irish women.I remember when I was a teenager I asked my Irish Grandmother why that was? My Grandmother replied with a twinkle in her eye, said it is a well known fact that no one has a better eye for beauty than a Frenchman. Beautiful photo of the sunrise! Take care ADonovan43
Thanks again for the kind words on my photos! :-)
Well, your Grandma's reply was quite a good one! It's a really curious fact that there's been such a Frenchmen-Irishwomen mix, but it sounds a beautiful thing to me, because you have in you a legacy of many different cultures!
This beautiful song brings back so many vivid memories of my life as a child .All of my Grand mothers were from Ireland or had parents who were from Ireland as was my great grandfather Michael, who was from Killworth. My Great, Great Grand mother Jane Campbell was born in Bellfast,My great grand mother Jane Molumby was from Cork. The first song I learned to sing as a small child was My Bonnie lies over the ocean.Bonnie was the name of one of the smartest dogs I ever owned .Take care ADonovan43.
Thanks you very much for sharing your memory and your family history... I too think it's really important to know about our grandparents so to keep the memories and the knowledge of ourselves alive. All the best!
@LadyGreyCarolyn I think that's why I like this version so much. I think, in my opinion, at least, that non c'e piu conveys the same type of longing/sadness that you hear in the part where the vocalist says "I dreamt that my bonnie was dead" as well as in the "bring back" portions. It's a well made connection. Thanks for sharing this, non c’e piu was a song my father and I shared a fondness for when he was alive. :)
I think it's very beautiful to have a song linked to the memory of a person that was dear to our heart... and I also thank you for making me discover "Non c'è più" ^_^
@LordFearsage I looked it up on YouTube and found a video of a concert conducted by one of my all time favorite conductors of the 20th century, Karajan. What a wonderful coincidence. Thanks for pointing me towards this friend. :)
I like it Lady G. *(^_^)*

Is it my imagination of does the opening sequence sound like Dvořák's New World Symphony No. 9???
Such a beautiful piece of music sung by one of Scotland's best exports....

Isn't the instrumental intro portion of this from the song non c'e piu? I like this interpretation of the song.

@Salieri325 I immediatly recognised it, I think it's part of the Symphony No.9, From the New World, 2nd Mov.pt 2, by Dvorak.
