Sad, but a really nice video. I pity the people who think Chicago is not or was not high in crime. They try to glorify Atlanta's crime and New York's crime and other cities, too. Those buildings in the video, especially Cabrini Green and Robert Taylor, were the worst in the nation. They would probably shit bricks if they seen high rises like that in person.
These projects looked like prisons, making the innocent feel like - just that. In fact, gangsters basically held the complex hostage. In other words, many of the innocent were trapped. Most residents could not wander through the projects without being victimized, or at least without witnessing a violent crime. As a result, these high-rises have been demolished.
Dull colors, cramped living, nothing to do, poverty, modern day slavery. A psyche study was once done where rats were packed in an enclosed space and cramped. The rats behaviors became aggressive and they killed each other and ate their babies. The govt knows what it is doing
It did'nt really bother me either way when they tore the jets down, but now i see alot of peoples memories were tore down with them, and thats fucked up!
I cried when they tore down the projects at 928 S. Lytle, just like the one pictured at 1:51 on this video. Jane Adams Housing, 3 Stories high. I had the best time of my life growing up there in the
50's and 60's. It sickens me to see it all gone now. Thanks for the memories!
Some of the projects look like the ones we got in NY. Interesting. I don't know too much about the Chi's history. I heard they tore down a lot of these PJ's. Is that true?
QUICK QUESTIONS How many housing PJs did Chicago have in all b4 the 90s when they started tearing them down???????????????????????? And how many are left???????????????????
the Projects were built 2 isolate blacks 2 keep us N 1 spot. That it DiD.THe only failure was us WE failed ourselves 4 letting the "man" win..they wanted us 2 stay put 2LIVe & die there. did they care about our Well.being our Future? Hell no the projects were a success 4 da 1's who build them..now they want their city back; nice LiL rowHouses 4 them 2 looK at!..the buildings R gone, they want the only memory of projects 2B gangs/drugs..What about da 50's60's70's? thats where it all began !
Thats wild man , there doing that all over the country it seems there tearing down the projects and kicking everybody out the city . Im from brooklyn , Fort Greene to be exact . Man if you see my hood now its crazy . The people that been living in our nieghborhood , bed-stuy ect .. cant afford to live there anymore .
we worse den yalll cuz we grimeyer u dumb fukk CHI TOWN ALLL DAY MAN RIP 2 ALLL DA PROJECTZ N DA CHI ABBY GDN ALLL DAY IMMA STILLL KKEEP IT PUSHIN FOLKKS
then why dont they help themselves? i had nothing grown up, i grew up in a bad area but i left it at 16 and went to work, now im studying to be a web designer. the goverment dealt these people a bad hand, so what? i know plenty of people that grew up with nothing but they pulled themselves up and made something of themselves, so much moaning and cying about how hard life is in the 'ghetto' well theres plenty had it hard. quit feeling sorry for themselves and go do something for themselves
Its heartbreaking to watch some of these vids & the ppl in them. They simply don't know any better & make excuses 4 not making a better life for themselves. My parents came to the U.S. 2give their kids a better life &pushed us 2do so. We weren't rich or even middle class but stayed focused &made a good life 4 ourselves. I shake my head when I hear these kids talking about they "run this block" etc. They're so blind. U don't run anything in fact they were kicked out. 2 heartbreaking.
Thought I saw some buildings used in the opening of Good Times.

@Matth1002 I love this video of the projects. The
somber music fits perfectly, almost like you're at
a funeral, and the pictures are like people who will
be missed; and i will miss my old building of 4848
Robert Taylor. Damn, I actually cried though. But
thanx 4 posting!!!!1
