I respect JR. He was just trying to get Marleau going. Every now and then, even the greatest players need somewhat unfriendly words to get them on a roll.
it's one thing to critique a play or a player's level of play, but to say 19 players showed up and count Marleau out, wow what a blow. borderline unprofessional and personal. I know JR looks up to Marleau and maybe that's why he was so harsh, but choose your words wisely when you're going to come out looking like a jerk.
i can deal with roenicks comments, he played in the big games and can back it up what hes saying. Its that damn newberry i can't stand, knows nothing and hes the reason why the islanders are still paying alexi yashin's contract, he also was the gm of the ny rangers and passed up zack parise because he said " he would never excel in the nhl". At least roenick knows whats hes talkin about
Honestly, Marleau did not show up for the whole series on the scoresheet until Game 7. I knew what Roenick was trying to say, but the was he said it made people overreact and make it a bigger issue than it had to be.
@20CentPat Did it ever occur to you that maybe he's
A. Trying to get hockey more attention by saying things like this. Or
B. Trying to wake Patrick Marleau up in his own JR way? Maybe JR use to say stuff like this to Marleau's face as teammates to wake him up and he's doing just that now via a crappy sports network. Or
JR is a bit of a character but he's loads better than most of the other player-turned broadcasting career guys. He does need to study up on the game a bit more though and learn the players names.
“What if Marleau has the game of his life tomorrow, the San Jose Sharks win the series and they go on and win the Stanley Cup?” he asked. “That’s what I want to happen. As a loyal Sharks fan, I hope my comments are slammed down my throat and Patrick Marleau plays the best game of his life. And if he does, I will be the first one to give him kudos.”
Let's face it, Roenick is a douche. He likes to poke and prod to piss people off. I'm San Jose 'Till I Die, but regardless, Roenick is a bully. He needs to stop being so damn self centered and thinking he's the greatest player of all time.
Roenick should stick to golf because his commentary game sucks. Someone should ask him how his foot tastes after being in his mouth for the last few days.

Jeremy Roenick is the worse thing to happen to TV.
This guy is so unprofessional and full of shit and hatred.
Everything from crying on national TV to this Marleau situation (his former teammate) get this guy off of TV!
