@pow0006 Hmm, seems a lot easier than the NZ coal... The stuff I have is damn near impossible to get glowing and keep itself burning hot, then it just sits there smoldering slowly for like two days.
@dquad so... gassify it, have the coal in a cannister in the flue, getting hot enough to offgas, heat the boiler with the gasses. a method of dumping fresh coal in, and spent coal out would be a good idea though. the smoldering smoke, burns better than the coal probably.
is it made out of a gas bottle

Well done. Great to see it going. Does it need the coal or will it get up steam ok on wood alone?
JosephineLloyd 8 months ago
@JosephineLloyd It gets up steam fine on wood alone but since its quite small
i have to feed it small pieces of wood regularly to keep the fire going.
But if i add some coal it gets twice as hot and runs longer.

I hear Aus coal burns hotter than NZ coal? Also, is it pretty easy to start your coal burning?
dquad 8 months ago
@dquad I wonder too if its hotter than NZ coal but it does start allright.
what i do is first start it on dry wood and warm water in the boiler.
Then once i get some embers and steam i open the blower and add the coal.
Once the coal is glowing hot your good to go.
