  • is it made out of a gas bottle

  • Well done. Great to see it going. Does it need the coal or will it get up steam ok on wood alone?

  • @JosephineLloyd It gets up steam fine on wood alone but since its quite small

i have to feed it small pieces of wood regularly to keep the fire going.

But if i add some coal it gets twice as hot and runs longer.

  • I hear Aus coal burns hotter than NZ coal? Also, is it pretty easy to start your coal burning?

  • @dquad I wonder too if its hotter than NZ coal but it does start allright.

what i do is first start it on dry wood and warm water in the boiler.

Then once i get some embers and steam i open the blower and add the coal.

Once the coal is glowing hot your good to go.

  • @pow0006 Hmm, seems a lot easier than the NZ coal... The stuff I have is damn near impossible to get glowing and keep itself burning hot, then it just sits there smoldering slowly for like two days.

  • @dquad so... gassify it, have the coal in a cannister in the flue, getting hot enough to offgas, heat the boiler with the gasses. a method of dumping fresh coal in, and spent coal out would be a good idea though. the smoldering smoke, burns better than the coal probably.

  • that is a really cool boiler...good job

  • Great stuff :), Don't Let Gillard Find out that's Coal Fired, You'll get taxed :P

  • @HDXFH haha nice one, hey pow0006, sweet bro! so steampunk
