  • Awsome

  • sounds awsome

  • Sounds like a VW bug when you hit the gas. thumbs up??

  • that sounds amazing!!!!!

  • Hey, do youy think one day you could make a modle 3.8 litre buick v6? You know a tribute, since they dont make them anymore and they were one of GMs best engines period. Also because no seems to make modle v6s. Also maybe make a video some day showing how to make one. or a series I should say. ireally want to make one, but, dont have the knowlage

  • Where did you find the plans to build this beauty?

  • @teeter1939

Cole's Power Models out of Texas is a model engine supplier. They have the drawings and castings if so desired. I built mine from scratch because I didn't like the way the crankcase had to be machined.

  • Very nice. Hope your thumb is better.

  • nice engine is it for sale if so how much

  • are you interested in selling this if so how much

  • few questions? do the cylinders have sleves? and if so what are they made out of and what are the pistons made out of?

  • @superfunnyman123

The outer cylinders/jackets are made from aluminum. The inner sleeves are pressed in to form the water jackets. They are made from Durabar iron. The pistons are made from aluminum with 2 cast iron rings per piston. The wrist pins are drill rod.

  • where can you get them and how much are they

  • sounds like a baby volkswagen!!!

  • awesome!

  • What's with the tape on your hand ?

  • @tomwmloppe

    dislocated thumb

  • haha sweet its got a tractor flap! nice :)

  • Sounds just like my Volvo B20 engine in my old Volvo 142. Nice job!

  • love the sound :D got a few Q's tho.

Why is the flywheel so big? looks really heavy too and also what are these motors used for?

  • This is a model of a Holt engine. They were used in track type tractors during World War 1. Holt later became the Caterpillar Corporation. The flywheel on the original was quite large. I don't know if it is proportionally the same size but it's needed to allow the engine to run slowly. When you scale and engine down you can't scale the centrifugal force of the flywheel therefore it has to be bigger in diameter to overcome the compression pressure.

  • oh so the spinning mass of the flywheel helps keep the pistons moving due to the weight of it? So it basically stores the spinning energy of the motor and helps keep it idling slow?

  • Exactly

  • Now lets see if you can get it to idle as slow as the real Holt engine.

  • @Scentlessapprentice9 im not sure what you mean by slow, but it went pretty low in the other video where he starts it by hand.

  • HI do you have a copy of the drawings for this if been try to find out a bit more about them as id like to do one my self

  • Did you break your thumb trying to start this?

  • No, dirt bike mishap

  • is it really water cooled?

  • Yes it's watercooled. The cylinders have a jacket around them. The water goes into the bottom on one side and comes out the top on the other. I have since added a water pump which helps the circulation. I will post another video of the updated engine shortly.

  • i want one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a wonderful sound!

  • is it homemade ?

  • Yes, this one is made entirely from bar stock, no castings.

  • surely those manifolds are castings, unless you spent months carving them from solid!

  • I purchased the manifold castings and the rear flywheel. The manifolds were too much to whittle out of solid and the flywheel was too big.

  • take that front flywheel off i can see it lags on rev

  • ... It's not meant to be a fast revving engine (by the looks of it)

  • i will give you $200 for that

  • LOL, more like $20,000 if you factor in how long it takes to build one of these.

  • These engines are sold as a rough casting set. They require full machining of the castings and fabrication of all the other parts. The only way you could obtain one is to join one of the Yahoo groups on model engines and ask if someone has one for sale. I have attended many model engineering shows over the years but haven't seen that many Holts.

  • oh...

  • please respond!!!! were can i buy one!!!???!!!

  • kinda sounds like my grandpas 1949 massey harris pony tractor-unfortunately i blew up the coil so i can't start it-and then again, it's waaaay too cold in canada to fix it anyway!

  • what kind of carburetor do you have there?

  • It's a model airplane style with and air bleed for the idle. I built it myself to fit the manifold on the engine.

  • hmm... cool! i hope that what i got for christmas was a model enigne... as soon as i can i'll make a video of it.

  • wow cool engine. do u know where i cud get plans for 1 of those?

  • Thanks Jack, the company that sells the drawings and castings is named Coles Power Models. They're out of Texas.

  • k........... that sucks.... im in canada...

do you think you could mail the drawings to me?

  • Hi Jack, I'm a little confused. Could I mail what drawings to you?

  • never mind... i might be getting an O.S. model airplane enigne for christmas! i will make a video of it as soon as i can cool engine again! :D

  • what a great sound well done

  • Very Nice engine, and quite a lot of work from solid stock. I have to ask what happened to your thumb?

  • A slight miscalculation while riding my dirtbike provided me with the splint that you see(chipped bone). It had nothing to do with the Holt but thanks for asking. LOL

  • Thats a work of art, good job!
