You didn't miss too much: Andrew basically just spots Galitea (the female robot) singing and thinks she has personality. Hers isn't "real", like Andrew's: it's programmed. She belongs to the Oliver Pratt character, and that's how Andrew meets him.

There's this part in this particular movie which I really don't even know to well and have never seen the whole thing of where this old woman is dying, and the robot comes by her death bed saying some stuff.
