VERY COOL SONG , FIRST HEARD IT AS A KID ..BRINGS BACK ALOT OF MEMORIES OF HIPPIES HANGING OUT AT VENICE BEACH..WHAT COOL MEMORIES..THANKS FOR POSTING..GUS SERRANO ,DUARTE ,CA
I dont think this is about drugs!I wished someone would color tint this older version! It's about a girl, and she is sitting there waiting for Sunshine !He is trying to bring it to her!She sits on her velvet throne wanting better than him! A Superman! She has to make her mind up,or she can keep all the rainbows, and call them her own!!He wants her to make her mind up!!Until then he will hug his kitten!!Cuz animals love us for who we are!!
Absolutely LOVED this song when I was a kid. Of course, maybe that was because it's the only song ever to mention "Green Lantern" ... and one of only a few to even mention Superman, and this one put it in the title! I was in comic-book-geek heaven. :D
No, that's not correct either. I have been studying music video history, & the first two music videos belong to Bob Dylan and his "Subterranean Homesick Blues" (although originally shown at the end of a movie) & The Who's "I Can't Explain" (the 3rd is Unit 4 + 2's "Concrete & Clay" -- this group is also the 1st to use outside footage & in color) (all three were from 1965). The Beatles' first promo vids wouldn't be until very late in 1965 (December) for "Day Tripper" & "We Can Work It Out".
Actually music videos go even farther back. The first existence of music videos -- they were soundies, even if they weren't called videos belong shortly after the first time movies started talking -- which is back in the late 1920's. So, correct yourself!
Wore the vinyl clear thru this 45 when it came out way back then...superman or green lantern....thought of that while scuba diving many years later.....wow
I am so glad now that I saw Donovan in concert back in 1986. I now know for sure that Donovan was the father of the modern music vid. He was the first artist to have a promo, non-Scopitone, vid. (this one) that had plenty of action in it (instead of the artist standing or sitting around or limited at best such as the Troggs' "Wild Thing").
When I first heard it when I was two years old, I just knew some day I had to go watch Donovan in concert. Which is what I got to do in August 1986 when I was still living in the Tampa Bay area (where I'm from) and got to see Donovan give one of Clearwater, FL's Ruth Eckerd Hall's intimate concerts in the upstairs private concert area. I was in the seats right in front of him, and at that time Donovan still looked like the waif-psychedelic character he does in this vid.
Apparently this was # 1 on the day I was born.

Jimmy Page on guitar and John Paul Jones arrangement. Who was the drummer here? Clem Cattini perhaps? He's kick ass whoever he is.
