@serpico89 Yeah, but in a crisis, you take what you can get. But I totally agree. And how hard would it be to put this thing on like steam or live? Well, back to the roms then huh?
@serpico89 They bring it upon themselves. I´m not much for roms in general, but hey, this and a ton of other games are just to good to miss out on thanks to poor market research.
@mazze84 exactly, i believe a lot of people would definitely play this game if it was brought beyond japan. long time gamers would love a classic series and its easy enough for casual gamers to pick up and play.
@serpico89 Yeah, if not release it for the hardcores via some of the downloadable services. Come on, really, how hard is that? Like Mark said, it´s allready in english, what´s the deal? I mean, if a game as hardcore as Demon Souls and all the what-nots can find a market, why not quality games-series like this one?
@BillyCauseyjr Yea, I'm beginning to see this. I'm one of those 360 owners who loves 2D shooters and really could do without all the FPS's and sports games. I did hear Radiant Silvergun is coming to the XBLA soon, so there is hope.
I'll tell you what would be incredible. A Thunder Force Boxed set!!! Including all of the thunder force titles packed into a plastic spaceship fighter carrying case. Bonus CD's included featuring the music from the series, and the previously unreleased thunderforce game for the Vectrex!! I can dream can't I.
@AManofWit I wouldn't necessarily put all the blame on Japan. Cave has tried to make DoDonPachi available on XBLA but were shot down my Microsoft. Cave also released Mushi and EspGaluda 2 region free giving anyone in the world the opportunity to import them. Cave also just released Guwange on XBLA. These are steps in the right direction. Not to mention we got Raiden 6 and DeathSmiles! BTW Radiant Silvergun will be available in the near future!!! Let's just celebrate what we do have.
Games like this haven't been selling that great in Japan either these days. That's why companies like Cave have started looking towards the niche audience in the west to make a quick buck.
I personally think this might be the last Thunder Force game. Mainly because ORN is the main antagonist of the series (Well I guess if you want to get technical then its 2 out of the 6) and well the ORN emperor is the last boss, and if you beat the game, you got to see the huge head explode =). Still, they might create a spin-off or something although I doubt it will be as good as the originals.
I always found TF6 to be incredibly disappointing. I suck at shoot-em-ups, and yet I beat the game my very first time playing it. The ship for the first playthrough is ridiculously overpowered. You slice through the game like a chainsaw through drawn butter.
If you love this type of games (of corse you do.. lol) you need to try Ether Vapor for PC... its fantastic... one of the best shoot'em ups in the pc platform... love to all
Why do these Japanese-only games always have some stuff written in English as well? If you're gonna make it partially English, then just make the whole goddamn thing in English already!
This PAINS me that l have been waiting for almost a decade for a new game in one of my favorite video game series since childhood and it turns out it's only released in Japan.
@Terramax swap magic discs have a tendency not to work great but i a device that you plug in to the memory card slot put the game in turn off the ps to standby then back on it will load up jap and usa games works great.
I am on the verge of getting a jap ps2 just for this game, thunderforce4 was my all time fave megadrive game and metal squad is the best game music ever made.. it doesnt look like there is going to be any plans to release this on xbox live or ps network..instead we get crap like raystorm hd.
Great review by the way..like how you tell it how it is without using any flowery words and being so serious.
Yes, thank you Sega for not releasing it in Europe. Thanks for also not bringing out a dreamcast version. G.Rev brought Under Defeat and Border Down to the DC, what's your excuse sega?
i dont know bout US but the PS2's imported in india from europe have a internal power supply and can even play japanese games Espgaluda was never released in north america but it's a fantastic game CGRHD should definitely review it
Ok, if you say you love this game at 3:08, why at the begining did you say your glad this game didnt come to north america? This series is amazing!! Also, good review!
@kabuboost455 Sarcasm on his part, because all the other Thunder Force games have been released in the US. He made fun of the publisher for missing out on a huge market and letting down fans of the series who live outside of Japan. Also, as he said, the game was already translated to English, which only adds insult to injury.
@whitephoenix7186 That's the reason why I like the idea that the PS3 and their games are region free. If you don't believe me go to Play Asia and look up any PS3 games and you will fine that they are region free no matter where they were released. I also agree with you with region encoding is dumb and outdated in this world encomy.
Japanese Games are playable using a Swap Magic Boot Disc. It plays burned games, Japanese games, and PAL games without the screen screwing up. Its a good alternative to mod chips as your not risking screwing up your PS2, shortening its life span.
Love the sarcastic opening-commentary Dude!! Lest we forget the 'other' SoJ titles that have yet to be availed Stateside(and probably never will be):SEGA Ages2500 Fantasy Zone Collection Complete Vol.33(optimized from scratch to run on the PS2 hardware in real time!), Galaxy Force Coll., SEGA/Westone WonderBoy Coll., AND a vast myriad of lost SEGA Ages2500 releases for the Japanese PS2 that'll NEVER be published in the U.S... 3rd parties be damned!
If anyone in N. America wants to play this on their US version PS2, I just tested it with SwapMagic 3.6 and it works beautifully. It's a lot cheaper than importing a Japanese PS2, for goodness sake. Just press the "square" special load boot option. This is perfectly legal if you import a copy of the game. I downloaded an image first to ensure that it would actually play. Now that I know it does, I'm going to try to find a reasonably priced copy to import ...
@scientistofevil He's right. To prove it, I have a Swap Magic 3.6 as well, and I use it to play my Japanese import, NamcoXCapcom. Use this method instead of wasting your money on a Japanese PS2.
@maricopaapt14 The best part is you just won't find a better review of games like Thunder Force 6 on the internet because the people who make videos of the same quality just don't care.
Yeah, but wait till you see the price on Amazon and Play-Asia. On Amazon, the game costs $53.88. On Play-Asia, the game costs $49.90. What is that? To me those prices sound expensive. And after I get Philosoma and Psychic Force for my upcoming birthday, I was going to get an Xbox 360 as well as Raiden Fighters Aces and Raiden IV, but those games are expensive... And if all else fails, this game was my last resort for Christmas, but this one's expensive too...
because it's an old classic franchise and is of interest mainly to people who played the old MD Thunderforce series. Nobody else but classic gamers give a shit about this game.
I know the PS1 started a kind of translation frenzy, in which we've gotten the vast majority of the goods from Japan, but I still have two Sega Dreamcasts. It wasn't long ago that we were still getting the shaft on everything, particularly Thunder Force V on Saturn. This should be old hat for this niche of gamers by now, a part of the culture, which is itself a counterculture of a counterculture in the US. Basically, I'd have rather heard more about the game I've been waiting a decade for.
Is that the Fighter from Thunder Force 4 yo're fighting as a boss? It sure is that rocking music score from TF4 - remixed, of course.
That's really nice.
I still think TF4 on the Genesis is the best of the series: classical 2d shmup, which pushes an old console to the limits. And I just love "drawn" shmups a lot more that polygon shmups.
Mars Matrix is another title I love for it's artwork and design.
Thunder Force IV was the 5th game I got for my Sega Megadrive, that's like 13 years ago and I still play it on almost a daily basis. Will have to pick this one and every other one up.
I've never minded some slow down in games, it's when the game chugs and is doing some massive jerking around then it becomes a problem, if it's a FPS forget it that's probably the most frustrating thing.
i love most shmups because most of them have great challenging bosses. if they would make first person shooters with great bosses then i would love modern games. you should make a video discussing the virtues of challenging bosses in games and asking why ps3 and xbox 360 games are foregoing bosses. imagine if call of duty had bosses.
Yeah, and if you have a PS3 and internet connection you can download Soldner X, a game of the same category as Thunderforce for 10 US dollars. The name is Germnan, so it sounds strnge to us but the game looks good and is in HD.
I know my comments may seem like pure bullshit, and that they may be a little off-topic, but please at least try and take them into some consideration.
We may be trying our best when we develop videogames, but we cannot and will not beat the Japanese game developers no matter how we try to beat them. They are smarter than us, and they are more technologically advanced than us, yet we are slowly catching up to them. I'm not saying I hate American game companies, I'm just saying that I think the Japanese should start making videogames based off of American, Canadian, and British cartoon and movie franchises like they used to, back in the 1990's.
I know. Some U.S. gamers are complete assholes and hate Japanese game developers altogether. I know one person here on Youtube that wants all videogames based off of American and Canadian cartoons and movies to be developed by the U.S., the U.K. and Australia ONLY, and does NOT want Konami or Sunsoft, (yes, they're still around) to do games based off of Warner Bros. Franchises, and does not want Capcome to do Disney franchises and that person is FroggoFan64. He hates ALL Japanese game companies!
I have to have this game!!!! I know it hasn't been developed by Technosoft but when you look at the pedigree of who is behind it (Tetsu Okano) you know the franchise fell into safe hands. Looks like I'll be investing in a Japanese PS2 then. Damned region encoding!
another great review. I too sufer from this region torture. Beatmania GREAT game. They made both a japanese and usa relese!... they give us one game thats a wierd skeliton combo of 3 of the different arcade versions. ALL 15 different arcade versions are available in seperate releases... in japan region only :( And it's expencive as nuts to get a japanese ps2.
Learn to 1CC... when you clear the game on one credit you unlock the Rynex R ship. The game is completely different (soundtrack is different too)... 1CC with Rynex R and you unlock another ship. Learn how to play shooters on 1 credit! Your score resets if you continue... what's the point... don't be a nub
I want this game on Wii. Please!

Love the Thunder Force series.
Thunder Force IV was the 5th game I got for my Sega Megadrive, that's like 13 years ago and I still play it on almost a daily basis. Will have to pick this one and every other one up.

Region coding needs to die. I want my IIDX damnit! You know you could've just modded your PS2 for a lot less money.

You see. PC has few advantages. No region coding and you can play few popular games on it.

I've never minded some slow down in games, it's when the game chugs and is doing some massive jerking around then it becomes a problem, if it's a FPS forget it that's probably the most frustrating thing.

This Game Looks AWESOME! I remember playing V and that game was sooo hard ;P
lastvaquero 3 years ago
but g darius is harder because the bosses wont die fast
masterkill107 3 years ago
i love most shmups because most of them have great challenging bosses. if they would make first person shooters with great bosses then i would love modern games. you should make a video discussing the virtues of challenging bosses in games and asking why ps3 and xbox 360 games are foregoing bosses. imagine if call of duty had bosses.
ahhoiboy 3 years ago
looks like a 3Dremake of 3, when i look at the bosses
XargothHellington 3 years ago
Surely not as good as TF5 though!

i wish they would make thunder force 7 for ps3 and 360, who agrees with meh?

Yeah, and if you have a PS3 and internet connection you can download Soldner X, a game of the same category as Thunderforce for 10 US dollars. The name is Germnan, so it sounds strnge to us but the game looks good and is in HD.
IGPXer 3 years ago
Definitely. TF7 for PSN and XBLA.

MysticArksRevenge 3 years ago
I know. Some U.S. gamers are complete assholes and hate Japanese game developers altogether.
MysticArksRevenge 3 years ago
I have to have this game!!!! I know it hasn't been developed by Technosoft but when you look at the pedigree of who is behind it (Tetsu Okano) you know the franchise fell into safe hands. Looks like I'll be investing in a Japanese PS2 then. Damned region encoding!
sdmf1982 3 years ago 2
Damn those Japanese! They ALWAYS get the GOOD games to themselves while we get the SHITTY Games!

Thank our fellow US gamers for giving niche games bad review scores.

I don't know if it's just me, but the music at 6:53 sounds suspiciously like "Master of Puppets" by Metallica.

another great review.
