@SuperSonic9125 Queer was one of the first terms for the LGBT community. It means wierd, and was initially an insult. the word was then slowly reclaimed. It is now used as an umbrella term, for the dual reason of new terms always being added, and that words such as gay tend to be gender specific, even though it can apply to both genders.
Seriously people, Degrassi and shows like it are important in helping our kids understand that being different is a good thing. Our bodies also help in that way, our hormones and differences in mind and muscular differences. When a boy enters puberty he changes, he is making mental and bodily changes to become a man. I dunno who you are but Adam is a character. Also I don't much appreciate this because you are not a psychiatrist and know nothing about transgendered people, as evident in your post. I am a male stuck in a female body, no matter what you say can't change that. There are actual test now to help aid in determining transgendered individuals. @bananaers1. I completely agree. This is by far one of my favorite storylines Degrassi has ever had. And the fact that Adam was the first transgender character in television history makes it all the more special.
Me and my sister-in-law thought he was transgender from the start, so we rewound to the opening credits, and the actresses name is "Jordan," a name that suits either gender. So we were like "Ooh, Degrassi, you sneaky sneakers." :P I love this character.

I went to "Central Toronto Youth Services". I went to CTYS seeking counselling. I needed a safe place to talk about my gender identity and my difficulties related to gender identity. David Yehs actions had a negative impact on my mental health. I met with a so-called counsellor. The so-called counsellor's name was David Yeh.
He was very unprofessional and abusive. He told me i would never find a doctor that would prescribe me (HRT) hormone replacement therapy. I was talking about my experience of transphobia. He told me i had it worse than ANY other transsexual person in Toronto.
I actually believed him. I walked out of the centre feeling depressed and believing that I'd never find a doctor to prescribe me Hormonal Replacement Therapy. I actually even thought of suicide. I even started cutting myself. I was very upset at David Yeh. I made a complaint to Executive Director.. (Heather Sproule) but she disregarded my complaints.
I got to be honest.....when David Yeh told me these negative messages...it really had a negative impact on my mental health at the time...but now...i just think it's kind of funny. How can i have it worse than any other transsexual person if I have a supportive family? I know transsexual people and they are abused from their parents because they are transsexual.
I know transsexuals and they WISH they were on hormones. It's been about two years later, and I'm doing much better. On November 26, 2009 I got my first prescription for hormonal replacement therapy. My mental health has greatly changes as a result of the hormones. I've stopped thinking of suicide. I've even stopped cutting myself (Thanks god!) and I even have a supportive family. On December 6, 2009 I got my legal name changed. I was so happy when I got my name changed. LOL Life is great! :)

Here is a little lesson to those that cant grasp the terminology for Transgenderism. Ok if the person is biologically a Female that is actually a guy trapped in the female body is a transman, transguy, FtM transgender, he would be Drews transgendered BROTHER not sister. If it were a Bio male that was actually a female trapped in the male body would be a Trans Women, Girl, MTF or a Trans Sister. Its really not that confusing it just takes stopping the ignorance and caring enough to get it right.
I can genuinely say that I can't relate on any level to transgender individuals due to the simple fact that I myself (don't feel like a gender), however I'll try not to judge since they are people too.

I am a male stuck in a female body, no matter what you say can't change that. There are actual test now to help aid in determining transgendered individuals. adam is my favourite character. i love that degrassi takes these sorts of risks and that they are educating people about how different people live their lives. especially people in the LGBT community because that's often a topic that people don't want to discuss, but it needs to be talked about because we're not all treated equally in this country. we're all human & we're all different. i don't know why there has to be a specific mold we all fit into. if we just live our lives, what's the harm?

David Yehs actions had a negative impact on my mental health. I met with a so-called counsellor. The so-called counsellor's name was David Yeh.

He was very unprofessional and abusive. He told me i would never find a doctor that would prescribe me (HRT) hormone replacement therapy. I was talking about my experience of transphobia. He told me i had it worse than ANY other transsexual person in Toronto.

I know transsexuals and they WISH they were on hormones. It's been about two years later, and I'm doing much better. On November 26, 2009 I got my first prescription for hormonal replacement therapy. My mental health has greatly changes as a result of the hormones. I've stopped thinking of suicide. I've even stopped cutting myself (Thanks god!) and I even have a supportive family. On December 6, 2009 I got my legal name changed. I was so happy when I got my name changed. LOL Life is great! :)

Here is a little lesson to those that cant grasp the terminology for Transgenderism. Ok if the person is biologically a Female that is actually a guy trapped in the female body is a transman, transguy, FtM transgender, he would be Drews transgendered BROTHER not sister. If it were a Bio male that was actually a female trapped in the male body would be a Trans Women, Girl, MTF or a Trans Sister. Its really not that confusing it just takes stopping the ignorance and caring enough to get it right.

I can genuinely say that I can't relate on any level to transgender individuals due to the simple fact that I myself (don't feel like a gender), however I'll try not to judge since they are people too.

@kidrockty No, Jordan Todosey is a regular girl. If you've ever seen the comedy show, Life with Derek, Jordan Todosey was the little girl that played Lizzy, the main character, Casey's little sister. She does a really great job, and she is just so awesome for putting aside her beliefs and playing such an outspoken character.

She's just acting as a girl in the transitional process of becoming male.
That is why she has the external anatomy of a female but the mentality of a male.
This is why, "she" is called Adam. :)
