I had the pleasure of meeting Shea (her last name is Keck) some years back at a history event in Tennessee called "Raid on the Wautauga"- it was her first native reenactment, and she was gracious, funny, and unpretentious, and seemed to have a great time. She had been shawl dancing at powwows at that time, and took time to teach my daughter some of the basics. After our Saturday night's fireside sing, where we would take turns on rattle and drum, she thanked me for my songs- now that's irony!
Thank you!! At last someone can sing this song the right way. I guess it took a woman to take the whine out of the music and put some heart in it. Best version I've ever heard.
I met Shea in Oklahoma, I was hitchhiking and she gave me a lift. I had to apologize because I had never heard of her let alone heard her sing. We talked about radio and how I had noticed that Buffy St.Marie had been 'black-balled' and they all stopped playing her music, so I thought it was going to probably take a few years. Well I finally found you Princess Shea, I guess you can sing- and one of my favorite songs! Thanks♪♫♪
There once was an Indian named Micki Free, (as a scout in Apache territory) who lived around the time of Geronimo. Anyone know about the history of this person? I see the name floating around here and there, in the native community, so I assume somebody remembers him.
I love how my auntie can sing!! :). I just love her!!

Love this. Listen to it nearly daily. Found it after reading an ethnography on the Florida Seminole.

Simply amazing! Shea is beautiful and she has the voice of an angel. I'd like to hear more of her. I'm totally impressed. My mom would love her too.
