  • at half speed so when sped up it was an octave higher. If you'd heard the bootleg out takes, Harrison's lead really sucked (listen to John's comments), so it was replaced by what we hear now.

  • Its a bit more complex. George Martin's idea was to start Hard Days Night with a chord opening, and also to fade out with the 12 string. The opening chord is basically the same as used in I Feel Fine. It is George's older Rick 12 (it is a '63, but he got it in '64, he did get a newer single binding one in '65, I have the '63 reissue, with the double binding). Later, Martin overdubbed a low piano note to the opening. The solo was the 12 again, with Martin on piano, but with the tape played at ha

  • what song are they playing at 0:34?

  • they look like the same person, but with a wig

  • Is it a Danelectro?

  • What did he have in his hands at the very last second?

  • Not as good as my Egmond acoustic.

  • John Lennon's Guitare :DDDDDDDD

  • the guy on the right (the english guy) is dave gregory who played in XTC from 1979 til 1990 something. he is a fucking rock hero xxxx dave g

  • Whenever I look at a Rickenbacker, I think of George

  • he looks like mike dirnt

  • pete townshend used a rick on squeeze box

  • A Rickenbacker can cry out the Blues, too! Listen to the Vid...!

  • they are like the cadillac of guitars...

  • My uncle told me that these guitars look beautiful from a distance but horrible up close because of all the shiny plastic. What do you think?

  • @OpinionMan101 I think you're uncle's an idiot. The only plastic on them is the pickguard and the truss rod cover. Gretsches have plastic pickguards and truss rod covers. Gibsons have plastic pickguards and truss rod covers too. Fenders have plastic pickguards, and if they had truss rod covers, they'd be plastic, too. There's nothing plastic on a Rick that isn't plastic on every other guitar. I think your uncle's head is made of shiny plastic.

  • @Salguine

Don't forget Gibson's cheesy plastic inlays

  • @WoWintosh Gibson doesnt have plastic inlays

  • @Kreason95

    "Figured Acrylic inlays"

Acrylic is, in fact, plastic. Now go play "Sweet Child o' Mine" on your Epiphone LP-100 through your Marshall MG15

  • @WoWintosh I have 3 Gibsons (Les-Paul Standard, Sg 62 reissue, Sg special) 4 fenders (American Standard Strat and Tele, Custom Strat, Mustang), and I use Marshall and Fender Amp stacks, now go screw with someone who sucks at guitar, just like you

  • @Kreason95

I don't care about your cheesy mainstream guitars and amps. Also, it's kinda unfair to judge someone's musical abilities if you've never heard them play before. I know you're mad because you just found out that your guitar's fretboard is molested by Gibson's "figured acrylic" garbage, but don't project your anger onto me. May I also remind you of Gibson's infamous headstock breakage?

  • @WoWintosh ill contest to the neck breakage! happened to my gorgeous sg, but its fixed now and plays like a beaut

  • @WoWintosh I'm not mad, and not one of the headstocks has broken

  • @WoWintosh haha, "cheesy mainstream guitars and amps".. hipster much?

  • @Kreason95 You can own all that stuff and still suck at guitar, you know. There's no shortage of people with tons of money and no talent.

  • @Salguine I understand, but he told me to go play Sweet Child O' Mine on my epiphone-LP, I'm not saying I'm amazing I'm just saying I dont play crap guitars, and no I do not suck at guitar

  • @Kreason95 Epiphone makes damn good instruments.

  • @Salguine not the lp-100 that or any guitar they make that is below 400 dollars (exception of the studio les pual and the g400) are crap

  • @Salguine I think he meant the lacquer mate, not the actual plastic. He's right, they are very VERY shiny, but I love that about it! My brother however doesn't like it.

  • @bizarrefruit That's one thing Rickenbacker is respected for above every other maker; their unbelievable finishes. I haven't seen any others like it. Get a brand new one, and the finish is like glass. None of my Ricks is that new anymore, and the finishes have the old wear-and-tear now, but new, they're stunning.

  • @OpinionMan101 I don´t know what you would define as horrible but I can honestly say that I have never seen a guitar that looks more beautiful, feels more beautiful and plays more beautifully than my mapleglo 360, they are shiny, but it's lacquer, the wood quality is awesome and I like the lacquered neck because it makes bending more manageable. Go see one and try it, they are definitely an acquired taste, some people find the necks too thin. I am in love with my Rick ;)

  • @bizarrefruit Thanks, I think I'm going to have to go check one out!

  • @OpinionMan101 I've just put up a terrible rambling video demonstrating it, if you want to have a look you can do, but be warned, I repeat myself about 100 times and didn't play enough of it. Have a look if you're interested.

  • @bizarrefruit Hahaha sure I will!!

  • i wonder what erupton or stairway to heven would sound like on a rickinbacker

  • @fl00dsm0k3 I imagine it would sound like everything else does on a Rick; Awesome.

    =)

  • they keep playing the Its been a hard days night chord over and over

  • what dvd is this from?

  • That's Dave Gregory of XTC playing the fireglo. He is an insanely good session guitarist, as well as a fine keyboardist. Go to Guitargonauts on the web to learn more about him and his remarkable collection of vintage guitars.

  • i want to get high

  • @Schimmoller Me to. Dammit.

  • @jimihendrixfan2008 , I just bought a ric tonite!!!!!!!!!!!!!! holler @ your boy, lol

  • what is that song called at 0:22

  • wow. those lonnnng lonely winter nights must just rock on by with you two cheery fuckers talking about ricks like the weather at each other. I particularly love how u avoid looking in each others eyes as it may force u both to strip off and get on down to it. Nice sounds though, kudos! ('they could be adjusted from the rear'...hoho!)

  • Excellent video! Most enjoyed! Cheers!

  • whats that song at 0:31?

  • that guys Dave Gregory of XTC

  • i thought it was always pronounced bacher not backer. hmm, learned something new!

  • HOLY crap THE GUY WITH THE FIREGLO RICK LOOKS LIKE SHAGGY

  • what does the fith nob do, i didn't qiute understand his nonsence

  • @Sk8Gibson60 It's only nonsense because YOU didn't get it. Somehow I watched the video and it made sense to me...but not you.

It evens the output level of the two pickups (making the neck pickup as loud as the bridge). Simple...

  • the fellow keeps sawing that G sus chord... does he imagine it's the chord that opened the song, "hard days night"? well try this chord; hold down the low E string at the first fret--- then hold down the high E string with the B string again at the first fret...strum that and see what you think... now slowly glissando up those same three strings being held down... you have the ending chord to "people are strange" by the doors --- HOW STRANGE IS THAT?

  • @cshargeit

The actual Hard Days Night chord requires two guitars to play. One is a

12 string playing 353533 and the other is a six playing x03213

There are so many voicings in the chord that you can't play it correctly with any one guitar. There's also a little subtle bass and piano added in.

  • @guitarcapo

yes you can play it with one guitar. go to my page and watch my video.

btw the guy on this vid doesnt know it.

  • @boneypart

If you are talking about the mystery Hard Days Night chord, It's two guitars. One plays 353533 (the 12 string) and another plays X03213. It's impossible to play this on one guitar (too many voicings and the 12 string in there) There's also testimony from George Martin that a subtle piano and bass overdub was added later to make it that much more full sounding. George personally recalls the chord as an "F major with a G on top". In a pinch the suspended G chord does fine.

  • @guitarcapo

After seeing many well-meaning attempts and some ridiculous analysis of the opening chord of A Hard Day's Night on youtube, I felt it was my duty to show this distinctive opening 12- string chord. it is not G7sus4.

I must also say that the piano and other guitar played along with Harrison's

12-string certainly reinforce the chord from a production standpoint, but do not add complexity to the chord. Harrison's chord with McCartney's D bass spells out the entire chord.

  • @boneypart

Lotsa talk but no recipe. What's the chord then?

  • love it on stairway to heaven.

  • what song are they playing at around 19 seconds into the video?

  • annoying ass voice but dude regardless u both r freaking awesome. great guitarists n of course great guitars

  • The guy on the left is a douche!!!!!

  • i love the 620

  • Wow, Dave Gregory! I'm surprised, I was just browsing random videos and here he is! And I agree with him about the tuners on the Rickenbacker 12 String, That is a very good design.

  • Just for record, the 12-string Ric that Dave Gregory is playing is a 1963 'Model 1993' Rose Morris export. The traditional 'f' soundhole was used on these for the more 'traditional' European markets. The trapezoidal tailpiece was used on the 1963 version (as seen here)and then Ric switched to the 'R' tailpiece in 1964 versions. Very rare and sought after by Ric collectors!

  • Only a dream...wonderful guitars..

    Ric.

  • Yay, Dave Gregory from XTC on the right! A terrific guitar player and a lovely bloke too.

Any posters making negative comments about him need to do a bit of fucking research and check out his sterling work on albums like Black Sea, English Settlement, Skylarking and Nonsuch. XTC are a band highly respected by their peers, both obscure and VERY famous.

  • No kidding, I have a bootleg of an XTC concert from April 1981 and the crowd called them out for two encores. I don't think there have been that many bands called out for two encores in a row, Broadcast on live radio.

  • Totally agree 101Volts!

If you're into guitars BTW, have you looked at Dave Gregory's website? If not, Google it, it's called Guitagonauts. At the homepage, go to the Pick Of The Month section.

He has a large personal guitar collection (around 50-60, some cheap and fun, most very expensive, quite a few of '50s-'60s vintage), with good photos and loads of info about each one.

    It's great!

  • Yes, I'm into guitars and I'm in the process of refretting a cheap one. (I'm into guitar repair too!) Thanks for the info, I didn't know Dave had a site. I'm going to Google it right now!

  • No problem.

Once you start looking at the Pick Of The Month section, you'll be there for ages.

It even tells you which XTC tracks some of the guitars were used on!

  • Wow, I'm back from the site... 45 minutes later... I'm surprised Dave has so many guitars and even a 1953 Les Paul! I'd probably be looking at his site longer but I only have so much time in a day. Thanks though, I bookmarked it and will tell my best friend about Dave's site. My best friend got me into XTC in the first place.

  • that guy sounds he had just smoked the largest joint on earth

  • @xaviermoyssen he suffers from diabetes, poor man :(

  • @xaviermoyssen it's phil x stoned

  • @xaviermoyssen

or he blew coldest dick in the world :D

  • The opening chord on "A Hard Days Night" was played on a Rickenbacker 325/12 specially made for John Lennon and as far as I know the only 325/12 ever made. By the way Lennon also owned a 1996.

  • That chord was played on George Harrison's 360/12.

  • Wasn't that also the opening chord for

    New Order's song Regret?

    Dm

  • He wasn't around in 96!

  • @frederikbak

Lennon didn't even use that 325/12 till Beatles For Sale

  • Which hand did Harrison use to scratch his ass with? Also what percent milk did Lennon use on his cornflakes?

  • It depended on the cheek.

  • @guitarcapo Thanks for asking.George Harrison generally used his right hand to scratch his ass. There were times when after a long recording session,,he would give his right hand a rest and would scratch with his left hand.

John Lennon vareid on his milk to cornflake ratio. If we're talking about the Beatle days he almost always used a 70/30 ratio. That of course would be 70% cornflakes to 30 % milk

  • @winterlandboy

NO! I Meant percentage milkfat! 2%? SKIM? 1%

    God this sucks not knowing.

Did he change to canned when Dylan plugged in?

    I heard that rumor.

  • @guitarcapo no no no, when dylan went electric, mccartney took to canned, along with ringo following soon after. John always stuck with Vitamin D Milk until 1973 when he was turned on to Ovaltine. George was lactose intolerant

  • @guitarcapo

george harrison used the right hand and john lennon prefered to have

milk with a fat content of 1.5% on his cornflakes.

    you asked.

  • @guitarcapo What dies that mean?!

  • @guitarcapo Right hand;Whole milk lol

  • @guitarcapo

    1. It depend on which cheek the itch was on.

    2. Whole

  • @guitarcapo Left, Skim.

  • harrisson and lennon used a rickenbacker at a few points in their carreer

  • lol at 1:33

  • the first song is cinderella heartbreak station

  • at 0:18 he talks about how George Harrison used one. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that it was John Lennon who used it.

  • harrison used a 360 in certain songs such as the lead in a hard days night, if i needed some one, and u cant do that and john used his ric 325 in all his famous rythem parts such as all my loving

  • Oh, okay. I didn't know that

  • yea, george did use it. If john was playing an acoustic then george would play the Rickenbacker. But other conditions john would be the one with the ricken and george would have the grestch.

  • Nope, he's right and wrong. George Harrison used a Rickenbacker 360/12 exclusively thorughout his musical career and John Lennon was given a Rickenbacker 325/12 to replace his regular 325 while it was in the Rickenbacker shop getting repaired after years of hard rhythm playing and being knocked around a few times.

  • John used a Rickenbacker 325, but it was George Harrison who made Rickenbacker famous. He was given the 2nd 360-12 ever produced and used it for the opening chord to A Hard Day's Night among other songs. The Byrds then really pioneered the true Rickenbacker sound. It also made a comeback later on with Johnny Marr of The Smiths, but when I think of Rickenbacker and what one should sound like I always think of George Harrison or Roger McGuinn.

  • t their New York meeting, Lennon asked Hall to make him a twelve-string model to match his 325, and in March '64, Rickenbacker shipped this guitar to him in London. The only differences are the headstock and the tailpiece. This short-scale guitar was used on a Dutch TV show, in the studio (Beatles For Sale) and served as a backup throughout 1964, and saw actual use at a show in Boston on 12 September.

  • Anyway, Rose Morris gave Lennon the 1996 when his 325 was in the shop.

  • @NeilFraudstrong

    Why was this voted -3?

  • John Lennon used his 325 short scale Rickenbacker from the very beginning up to 1966.

Then he started using the Epiphone Casino.

George used his between 1964 to late 1965.

He mainly used a Gretsch though.

  • Dave Gregory (ex-XTC, guy on the right) is one of the most underrated guitarists in rock, imo.

Check out XTC's 'Black Sea' or 'English Settlement' to hear Mr. Gregory make that RIck 12 chime. Glorious!

  • I own two Rics (a 330/6 and a 360/12C63) and play them through a Vox AC30 with a Janglebox compressor pedal. Rickenbackers are fabulous guitars. Nothing else can match the sound OR the vibe.

P.S. Has ANYONE figured out what song they play near the beginning???

  • i feel really really stupid for asking this, but what is the song they are playing at 0:26?

  • David Attenborough!?

  • I want a Rickenbacker 4001!!!!!!!!!

  • That guy on the right sounds like the music equivalent of David Attenborugh!

  • what is the song they play at 0:26 ?

  • douchebags!!!!

  • how much does you pay for that guitar please in usd

  • They are about 3,000 USD.

  • man you make the vid if yes please pass me the settings to sound like you please

  • Here's how to sound like the guys in the video:

Buy a Rickenbacker 360-12 and buy a Fender Twin Reverb (or any middle to high end Fender amp). A Vox amp is also a good choice. Those will give you the classic Rickenbacker sound. I love Vox's, but I would play a Rick through a Fender Twin Reverb before I would play it through a Vox.

  • but how much does one cost in usd please (rickenbacker)

  • I told you already. Rickenbacker 360-12's are around 3,100 USD.

  • Took me a minute to realize that the guy on the right is Dave Gregory of XTC. BRILLIANT guitarist!

  • I am just curious, but what song popped your proverbial Rickenbacker cherry? For me, the song was Mr. Tambourine Man by The Byrds. After that, I have been obsessed with Rickenbacker's. I heard this song for the first time in 1989, but I loved the sound and then I started to play guitar at around 10 and became a Rickenbacker fanatic.

  • wow, rickenbacker fanatic at 10?!?

How did you afford it? Hahah

  • I didn't say I owned one, I just said I became a fanatic for them.

  • Mr Tambourine Man was first written and performed by Bob Dylan

  • I know, but I was saying that when I heard the version by The Byrds (which was made using Rickenbacker's) then that was when I became a fanatic for the Rickenbacker sound.

  • I WANT A RICKENBACKER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Is that Dave Gregory from XTC on right?

  • So many people play that HDN chord that way (the wrong way) because that's they see it older Beatles music books.

  • You can't play the opening chord with just one guitar. There were 4 people playing somehting. Including George Martin on piano. So if you just have one guy, that chord is the best you are going to get...

  • Try playing a 1st fret C note with 3rd fret G note. Let the open D note (what Macca played) ring clear.

  • Yes. It is a major pet peeve of mine.

  • Thinking of buying a rickenbacker soon once ive gained the cash.

Ive compared both the 360 and 620.

Advice? I know the 620 is slightly more expensive but it does seem better.

  • try dillion copy on jsd guitar shack

  • I want one so bad but they're soooooo expensive!!!!!! :(

  • what birds song are they playing

  • wrong hard days night chord

  • They look fabulous, they sound beautiful but in all honesty, they're rubbish guitars to play. Fragile, badly finished and the necks are too thin. I should know, I've owned a 330 6 string and a 360 12 striing and would give neither of them house room.

  • My 620 is the most beautifully easy and natural guitar I have ever played. I can understand that as a matter of personal preference not everybody will get along with their thin necks and small frets, but your comments about them being fragile and having poor finishes is just wrong, they are famed for their immaculate finishes and detail and they are pretty robust.

  • i´ve got a rick 360/12C63 and a rick 325V64 Liverpool. i´m very pleased with them!! as tigerclawfan said, it´s a matter of your personal preference, but that they r fragile and have bad finishes is just wrong. rickenbacker is using one of the best lacquers in guitar fabrication. pete townsend threw his 360 from the stage and it wasn´t broken and it still worked perfectly!! so they are definitely not fragile!!

  • @ madogthesheep

  • I've owned five now, never had any problems with durability or the finish. They're the most well crafted instruments I've ever owned. The necks are a bit different to other guitars, but that's part of the Rickenbacker vibe. The neck shape and size also evolved through the years.

  • Fair enough ... the caveat of "in my experience" should have been inserted. But I stand by my opinion. I wanted a 360 12 striing since 1977 when I saw Roger McGuinn playing one in an old Byrds clip of All I Really Want To Do. The sound, the look captivated me. It took me to 2007 to get the money together to get one and when I did, I was so disappointed with it. I've always used Fenders or Epiphones: maybe I'm just too set in my ways to adjust lol.

  • What specifically disappointed you? The ridiculously narrow neck?

  • That's one thing I love about Rick's actually. It makes a 12 string guitar play like a six string guitar (to me).

  • I played a rickenbacker at a small guitar shop in Times square NY and it was an experience they are great and worth the few grand they are!

  • anyone know what amps being used in this vid?

  • what song are they playing?

  • THE RICKENBACKER IS A BEAUTIFUL LADY

  • rickenbacker + fender twin reverb = total brightness

  • The orange sun burned one has eight strings?

  • looks like a 12 string to me (rics have some of the tuners vertical and others horizontal so it looks kinda weird)

  • does anyone konw where to buy one other than on the internet, i want one so much

  • Rickenbacker & VOX AC30 = best combination

  • I"d give my left nut for a 12 string jetglo 381. Magnificent guitars!!!

  • the guy playing the red one sounds like hes been kicked in the nuts

  • Hey, that guy on the right is Dave Gregory! Great guitar player!

  • i think those are also both his rics (The black one being the English Settlement era guitar), as is the little 1996 (imported 325) in the background.

  • I love the way the Rickenbackers look and sound. Yet as a lead guitarist I just dont like the way they feel.

Unless the company quits living in the past and brings their action and play-ability up to modern standards, I'll stick to my Gibsons and Fenders!

  • It's not a lead guitarist's instrument. That's just the way it is. I've had one of these (a 360 model) for 25 years now and it's hands down the best-playing guitar I have. You can't do Jimmy Page/Angus Young/guitar god solos on it, no. But that's not what it does. But it has the lowest action I've ever seen on a guitar, sounds beautiful, plays effortlessly, and never, ever goes out of tune. It might not be right for what you do, but it most definitely is not un-playable.

  • well im a bass player and their is nothing like a rick bass

  • Absolutely, 100%! Our bass player has 2 of them and they look and sound fantastic! I'm not a bassist, but if I was I'd definitly have a Ricki-bass in my arsenal!

Regarding my initial comment, it's their 6 string guitars(although they look and sound great)that action-wise, I just don't care for.

  • hey i am 12 man i have 4 basses but not a rick i have played one before and i have wanted one ever since but they are expensive but eventually ill get one and not only do rick basses look and sound awsome the craftmenship is remarkable its like god hand crafts each one

  • Hang in there buddy! Yes they are pricy, but if you start saving now you'll get your Ricki-bass sooner than you think!

I remember when I got my first Les Paul Custom...I started saving when I was 17 and had to work like a slave to get it. Finally, a few weeks before my 20th b'day, I did!

  • ive been saving money since i started playing bass because i wanted a rickey ever since but i only have 300some dollars and ricks are up in the thousands but i will eventuall get one and i have a 2000 dollar hartke amp so i cant complain

  • Hartkes are good amps, a buddy of mine has one.

Me, I have 2 Hiwatt stacks and a 1966(original, not a reissue)Fender Twin. I used to be a Marshall man but in the past 17 or so years they have been junk! Personally, I lost all faith and respect in Marshall!

  • yeah all new marshalls are junk hiwatts rock, though i would never get any thing other than a hartke but if i couldnt get a hartke id get i hiwatt or a mesa but my hartke is perfect well for me atleast,it has an 8x10 cabinet and a 5500 head 500 watts

  • they have the best 'punchy' noise, but DAMN are they heavy!

  • Yes, Rics are heavy! Les Pauls are to!
