Not just the fighting and flying I enjoyed of Starlancer, but also all the little extra tidbits the developers added to make it 'realistic'. You had a room, a mission briefing where you actually walked into. Soldiers saluted you when walked down the hallway, all of those made Starlancer something truly memorable. Go Tigers!
Starlancer is older than Freelancer, but way better. It's linear but fun to play and it has style. Good music, missions, voice acting, hint of a story or emotions now and then. I can't believe they were able to put that much in a simple space simulator. Always have a good time playing this game, brings cool memories
god this game brings back memories. When I got this game I was still kinda young like 9 or 10 when it came out. I first though that we were fighting aliens but turns out there just Russians. haha. I think I am going to go f8ind this somewhere. P.S. I need a flight stick.
Played the HELL out of this game. I missed it. Can you please link me to an emulator? Favorite line from this entire game is "See you in Hell, Pilot" as their ship was being ended. Also hated ejecting and being picked up by the enemy mothership and seeing the torturer walk through that light =/
@DGneoseeker1 starlancer was released 1999 or 2000, cant remember the year i got it, and freelancer 2003. so freelancer is younger game, but i like starlancer more, i have kind of nostalgic value to that game.
WOW this game looks really good. happy i found this. i love joystick games but I can't really find any that are that entertaining anymore. the commentary seems kinda annoying but i'm def. grabbin' this game.
You gotta learn to engine kill + drift. The other key is aiming for the small red reticule in front of the enemy ship - it's set-up directionally, so you'll be able to adjust more quickly as the enemy ship changes direction. I played Freelancer Discovery for a couple months, a few months ago. It was pretty sweet. I had an Advanced Train, Mining Ship, Liberty Bomber, and a pirate ship... Pretty sweet game.
Nice to see other Starlancer fans. It always seemed to go under the radar, with the hype for Freelancer and it not being a "Wing Commander" game. I loved it every bit as much as Wing Commander, though. That German Ace was awesome.
@imperialpod Thanks, Imperial. Actually i JUST downloaded Standoff last week! It has been fun, so far.
And not that Freespace 2 wasn't a good game (it was, though i really hate how it ended with a cliffhanger that'll never be resolved).. But i have to agree Starlancer just had something to it that gave it the edge.
You do understand how much I love you for putting this up right? I loved this game! This and Wing Commander were my all time favorties! Kudos to you sir!
damn this is probably one of my favorite games of all time...it felt so good playing it. u could type so many ship commands it felt like flying a real starfighter :)
this video game was amazing. I just couldn't stop to play with it even if I knew all the missions like my pocket. Tigers, ready to jump off? Let's go!!! With the song when you won... Just great.
I played FL then SL. Whats funny is I had never heard of SL.. about 6 years ago my grandma and I went to a store called BigLots and she saw it on the shelf for like $5 so we bought it, and it turned out to be one of my favorite games ever. Pretty sick imo
she found starlancer for 6? awesome, big lots is a great store, that has great deals on pc games, and dvd games, i picked up freelancer, at sams club last year i think, for 20, was glad to see it there, and grabbed it...
This looks pretty good, especially considering it's age. Is this a modded version or the original? If a mod, which one? Thanks, I'm on the lookout for this and Freelancer.
and the best thing is this game runs perfectly on vista! fooking love it! my second fav game of all time behind speedball 2 on the amiga 500 or dosbox
Oh my god. After two years, I've FINALLY found this game again. This and freespace have been my favorite shooter's ever. Great stories, but for some reason I couldn't ever find this game to come back to, untill now. Wow. These wingmen sure bring back memories. :D
@neverwas70 The Crusader has really good armor and lots of weapons so that's why I use it only in this mission. It's built like a tank and unfortunately handles like one too.
@Warpath2198 Well, first I didn't know that the plastic mouse had sex not to mention any kind of strange sexual orientation. :D Second - since I have a notebook and move here and there, I'm not always able to take my joystick with me. :P I agree of course that it's much more fun to poke the stick in your hand. *giggle*
yes , you can kill it but it hides and its difficult cause u dont have much time to kill him , but certanly is possible to kiil the basilisk , i did it :D
In the Dreamcast version, you can position yourself behind the Tempest so when the basilisk attacks, you can lock on to him quicker. I use the Naginata, because it offers rapid fire. You got to be quick! Wow, on the Dreamcast version, you can not request permission to land. Hmm, Cool!
Your not gonna kill that specific one anyway, he simply bugs out after a couple of shots, anyway, i love the jump sequence, you charge up and then, boom, spark, zoooooooooom. :D

@matthewgroen i only have freelancer and it looks nothing like it :3 the only similarities is the story

@matthewgroen this is a prequel to freelancer, or that freelancer is sequel. its made by same guys and freelancer continues the story of this.

Freespace 2 took most of the credit from fans but Starlancer was more realistic to me and felt better.
If you haven't tried it yet, download 'Wing Commander Standoff'.
Its free but VERY nice and looks great. Theres vids on Youtube so check it out.

Agreed, its possibly the best feeling space combat game ever. The sounds were booming and the lasers and cockpits were heavy and felt real.
Shame Chris Roberts went crap.
