is it safe to upgrade the gtx 555 to a 560Ti? in some forums some guys had problems gaming with it, as shutdown problemas may occur because of the heat, so can anyone tell for sure? thanks!
Whats the Answer to Alienware X51: The Xbox With Teeth by Anand La Shimpi, "While I have to wonder a why Dell and Alienware didn't opt to wait for Kepler and Ivy Bridge"! Answer is some Delays to Ivy Bridge 22nm maybe? Kepler not Economic Yields at .28nm?
Or maybe with the Dell-Alienware no Interest Card you can upgrade to that proccessor and Video Card! Might need to get the Dell Bang the Bus Van Chick Team on 6Month Contract Work to upgrade your Alienware X51;) Pickups at Titled Kilt!
I think it is misleading to the public, the base model the i3 version has a 240 watt power supply & the i5 & i7 models have 330 watt power adapter, (laptop adapter) both insufficient to power a GTX 560 let alone a GTX 560 TI properly..I still think it is an awesome new approach to gamers, but they should ship better power supplies with them..EVGA website clearly states a minimum of a 450 watt power supply for the GTX 560 & a 500 watt power supply for the GTX 560TI to function properly.
@jthosel Actually go and Nvidia's website for the GTX 560 and GTX 5601i they 2 different power minimums.
The actually minimum for the GPUs is 150-170watts and the minimum Watts for the GPU that the X51 one uses (models with the GTX 555) uses 150watts too.
@Daxter60 I was making reference to the GTX 560ti graphics card that is made by nvidia based EVGA, not that the stock cards that ship with Alienware x51's. The video shows him installing an EVGA GTX 560 super clocked graphics card which requires a 400 watt power supply. The NVIDIA oem cards which Alienware sells, have an architecture that has low power requirements, there is also some people complaining about BSOD's when they install GTX 560TI graphics card. Inadequate power is mostly the cause
@TheRoflWofl Actually I believe it can take up 9-10in cards, the PSU (depending if you have the 240watt one or 330watt) it will run fine as long as the hardware your using doesn't go past its max.
@9966449525 It's not officially supported by Dell/Alineware, but yes you can run it no problem with the 330w Power Supply. I recommend the EVGA GTX 560 with 2GB of VRAM, this should make the system a lot more powerful.
@c1j2m3f4 It all depends on the Power consumption and I don't know if it would work. If you get a 560 don't get the ti version, get the card from evga with 2gb VRAM, that will help in BF3 and Skyrin
@TheSecretCobra well the 6950 uses 2 6 pin power connectors, i don't know and for what I can tell this computer also got two 6 pin power connector there is a possibility that it can work and honestly the 6950 is way better than the 560, i don't know really i need to research some more... XD
@popomat86 Not necessarily, where i live it's very humid and due to this you don't have to worry as much. I do see your point since a lot of people are going to use this as an example of what to do.
Is it a 560 or a 560 ti that you used to upgrade and what were the clock and shader speeds? What model did you use, or what would you suggest for users who are thinking of doing the upgrade themselves?
Noobs think an OEM machine, similar to this would have the same performance and software finish. lol This is decent and fairly priced, not like your apple shit "super-computers".
@IILuKi : Hehe Apple is'nt overpriced either.. It's matter of the quality of the item you get. If you buy an Apple product it works straight after unboxing it. It's one of Apple's keyprincippels and their supportline is just flawless. I got a Macbook Pro for work and a Alienware Aurora for gaming - Both company's are excellent with support which i happily pay for :) If they're overpriced you should get a new job ;)
can anyone tell me where I can get a better wireless card for this computer?
I just got one but the cards range seems to be fairly short as I have trouble connecting to my router from my bedroom while my laptop has no trouble. It works fine when I am closer. So if anyone can tell me which cards are compatible and are better that would be great!
@Foxpips it will take any industry standard minicard... like an Intel 6205 or even a Killer NIC wireless 1102 or 1103. Many of these cards are all over Ebay. :-)
Is the power supply suffienct for the upgraded card? I'm worried about that. I bought a X51 but I'm not going to upgrade the card until I can find one used and for a good price.
Why is it that in usa the price is $699 but in the uk it is £699 when it should be around £450 if you convert $699 into english pound that i ta difference of £249 difference can you tell me why?
@waldemar860 When you buy the model with the GTX555 it comes with the 330 watt power supply, and alienware hasn't tested the GTX560 on this, but they have approved the GTx560 Ti for the system.
This is not an Alienware, this is a "Secretary Dell Desktop computer" with an Alien Badge, I own an Alienware and looks Alien, agreesive, this one have DELL tattooed all over... Dell finally is killing the Alienware brand... Epic Fail!
@winkawak U know i do have to predict that it is between a GTX 560/Ti or a GTX 570, a GTX 580 or 590 wouldn't fit or do anything special because those require a higher watt usage. Somebody who has a GTX 580 and want's to use it on the X51 can try it out as long as they are taking the risk of doing it.
@ThePunisherNWO Not at the moment but in 5 years it will be biting to see you are trying to sell your alienware s to buy a new one and lose lots of money.
@SiKGaMeRR09 i can vouch for that. my friend is getting one and i tried slapping together a rig in the same range on newegg and it came out about even... plus you cant find a chassis the same size with the same accommodations.
@MrZiimong Alienware is'nt overpriced... You get what you pay for! Exactly like Apple Products... They simply just work!! I think it's fair price on all their computers if you think of the quality of a product you get. Alienware is a high quality computer - no doubt!
@MrZiimong Apple and Alien ware are expensive. The difference is your paying for fancy Aluminum with an apple, and Mega Specs for an Alien ware. Which would you choose?
If that's the case, then you don't need to watch this video. Although I'm pretty sure you just clicked this video to gloat about you building your computer, which is really just you wasting your time.
NVIDIA 550, 560 & 560 Ti's are all 9 inch cards. Most of AMD's cards are 11 inches and won't fit. I think the only AMD card that will fit is the 6670 but the nvidia 555 & 560 perform better anyways.
I think the people bashing the X51 are missing its intended purpose: as a mid-range form-factor PC. For God sakes, the little thing has just a mini-ITX board & 2 RAM slots, don't expect it to perform at the level of a full ATX board.
Building your own form-factor PC that's durable & doesn't overheat is not as straightforward as building a full/mid tower, where you have crap loads of space to work with. If Alienware can get the cooling & PSU upgrades down, then its a notable product in my eyes.
@vrok137 WTH does the form factor of a board have to do with anything. An ASUS Gene can destroy a huge majority of the mobos out there now, and easily competes with the most high end ATX boards.

I just got one but the cards range seems to be fairly short as I have trouble connecting to my router from my bedroom while my laptop has no trouble. It works fine when I am closer. So if anyone can tell me which cards are compatible and are better that would be great!
Foxpips 4 weeks ago
@Foxpips it will take any industry standard minicard... like an Intel 6205 or even a Killer NIC wireless 1102 or 1103. Many of these cards are all over Ebay. :-)

If this product is a success and it still around in 2013 when its time for me to buy a new computer, i will seriously consider one of these.

Is the power supply suffienct for the upgraded card? I'm worried about that. I bought a X51 but I'm not going to upgrade the card until I can find one used and for a good price.

Deefboy95 3 weeks ago

So Inc. VAT it costs £698.99.

@woilychew We feel much worse than you,it will cost more $1,200 in China, but it was made in China................

@woilychew But don't whine. In Sweden (where I live) it costs almost 10 000 SEK, almost only because of tax.

They cant seriously think a GTX 560 can be powered by a 330w power supply. :b

@waldemar860 When you buy the model with the GTX555 it comes with the 330 watt power supply, and alienware hasn't tested the GTX560 on this, but they have approved the GTx560 Ti for the system.
jalmonte911 1 month ago
This is not an Alienware, this is a "Secretary Dell Desktop computer" with an Alien Badge, I own an Alienware and looks Alien, agreesive, this one have DELL tattooed all over... Dell finally is killing the Alienware brand... Epic Fail!

whats the highest nividia gtx card it can go up to?
winkawak 1 month ago
@winkawak U know i do have to predict that it is between a GTX 560/Ti or a GTX 570, a GTX 580 or 590 wouldn't fit or do anything special because those require a higher watt usage. Somebody who has a GTX 580 and want's to use it on the X51 can try it out as long as they are taking the risk of doing it.
Btushinsky83 1 month ago
@Btushinsky83
thanks
answered my own question when looked up the watt usage on nvidia
winkawak 1 month ago
@winkawak from the factory the GTX555 but aftermarket the GTX560 Ti. For now until more cards are mad to run with 330 watts.

I could do this on less time on my HAF 912 Plus. An with no screwdriver ;)

@MrZiimong Alienware is'nt overpriced... You get what you pay for! Exactly like Apple Products... They simply just work!! I think it's fair price on all their computers if you think of the quality of a product you get. Alienware is a high quality computer - no doubt!

Does anyone know if the PSU can power a 560 Ti? IF so how much more performance would you get vs the stock GTX 555 in the x51
bills889 1 month ago
What about AMD HD graphics?
teentitanbg 1 month ago
@teentitanbg
NVIDIA 550, 560 & 560 Ti's are all 9 inch cards. Most of AMD's cards are 11 inches and won't fit. I think the only AMD card that will fit is the 6670 but the nvidia 555 & 560 perform better anyways.
bills889 1 month ago
@bills889 Ok, Thanks.
teentitanbg 1 month ago
I think the people bashing the X51 are missing its intended purpose: as a mid-range form-factor PC. For God sakes, the little thing has just a mini-ITX board & 2 RAM slots, don't expect it to perform at the level of a full ATX board.
Building your own form-factor PC that's durable & doesn't overheat is not as straightforward as building a full/mid tower, where you have crap loads of space to work with. If Alienware can get the cooling & PSU upgrades down, then its a notable product in my eyes.
vrok137 1 month ago 24
@vrok137 WTH does the form factor of a board have to do with anything. An ASUS Gene can destroy a huge majority of the mobos out there now, and easily competes with the most high end ATX boards.
