In my experience with birds, you are not supposed to soak them with water, i let mist run over my cockatoo and he takes care of the rest, he absolutley loves it and you can realy tell he is enjoying it.
if you want shower you bird you need to start it early well my ara likes take shower by her self but i took 5 years to train her, and what i mean is that she really takes showe alone :D well what i need to do is just make the water heat good for bird cuz i don't wanna cook ger or freeze her.
I use a plant mister or (laundry water bottle sprayer) for my parrots that do not use a bath on there own, or do not like a full shower spray. I set it to a fine mist and than spray and have fun with it, music etc.. My cockatiels love this and do the Eagle by fanning out to make sure every inch of them gets wet! My Senegal likes to sit and get a total soak, the grey prefers intermittent sprays. Bath time can be complicated! I love how you have such a positive manner with your Grey!
Just a suggestion, parrots secrete oils that they spread over their feathers to protect them. Daily showers, considering that our water has chlorine added, may not be such a great thing for birds, and Ruby didn't really look excited about having a shower. She doesn't open her wings or flap. Have you tried giving her showers twice a week instead of daily?
I agree w/you, verticalsmurf, I try to give my Maxi showers 1x/week, but sometimes it is every other week, just to keep the dander down, afterall they aren't out in the enviroment getting "dirty". I hope that Lisacleverly, even if she didn't write you back, took your words/advice into consideration.^j^
yeah i agree. my bird bathes herself and its usually once every week. or unless i put her in the sink, which isnt often but she loves it. she always flaps her wings. if not, i take her out.
my african grey parrat hates water an i was told u spray her with warm water but when i do she gets angry a hisses and try to get away can somebody help me
Get her a bath, a kittly litter tray may be a good size, put about 2 inches of water in it. Place it somewhere she loves to play. Give her time to get used to it being there and change the water regularly (spring water, without the chemical smells may help) and start playing in it yourself, flicking your fingers and making happy noises, perhaps with her favourite toys will help get her attention. Parrots are like kids, and kids want whatever someone else has.
yeah, everytime he poops you show him the poop and you act like you're mad at him, and you tell him something like ''Poop'' and you take him to his place and leave him alone for a while.
You do that a few times and then he will start saying poop everytime he wants to go :)
That's a horrible way to do it! You don't get mad at an animal for doing something they must do!
Wait for the signs your bird is about to poop. Take them to where you want them to do their business and wait for them to poop. Then make a huge deal out of it and praise them. Say the same phrase each time and they will eventually learn to do it on command when you say that particular word. Just remember to take them for bathroom breaks often or they might have an accident.
-.-'' when the bird doesnt know and you dont realize about it he will never learn. I didnt say u have to punish him... Just pretend ur mad for like 2 min, they dont even care, they're clever, they understand. ''horrible way to do it!'' jeez... you have to compensate their good actions but when they do something u dont want them to do you need to let them know.
Hi, ruby is pretty..does she take a shower in winter too? Does it dry up easily?we have an african grey, but im not sure whether to give him a shower in this freezing temperature?
Thank you. Yes Ruby has a shower almost everyday no matter what the season. If it's cold in winter just be sure that wherever your parrot will be drying off is a warm temperature. I have Ruby here drying off in my warm lounge. If you cannot find somewhere warm for your parrot to dry off, then I would not recommend showering until you can. Good luck.
She's walking around the house wet and naked! I sure hope you didn't have visitors. xD

Awwe, thanks for that, It means alot to me that someone else has the same ideas as I do.
I am owned by a Sun Conure named Phoenix, and I gave up trying to get him in the shower about 6 months ago.
I gave him his own over-sized water dish - which I call his pond - and he bathes in that about 3-6 times a week depending on the weather.
I agree with you about the dander, If Phoenix didn't bathe himself, he'd have to put up with the spray bottle at least once a week.
