  • @bbcgramophone People still do that?

  • Why exactly do fans hate on this particular movie so much? Personally it's one of the first I've ever seen and one of my favorites.

  • @BigGee614 For me personally the energy from the two of their perfomances seen very low. This was a time when Olie sufferd a heart attack and Stan's health was getting worse. They were older and tired, you can see it all the way through. I reckon that has a little to do with it! Still, I love them to bits

  • Those two faces were BORN for comedy and caricature!

  • am a great fan of L&H

  • thanks for this movie, i never seen it before.I realy love those guy's. they are the best comedian

  • lllllllllllllllllll

  • Pouring oil on troubled waters at 31:05 Brilliant.

  • I am a great fan of L&H but I must admit I feel rather sad when I watch this movie. The reasons have already been mentioned regarding their health and its a poorly made film in general. Too bad it was their "Swan Song". Way Out West is the boys at their best in the long features. Their very best work was done on the old shorts...there they were in their natural setting and there was no better.

  • thxxx for this classic movie, i never seen this episode.

    I realy love those guy's.

I realy enjoy seeing this THXX

  • As Mouyijian said, this is not a good intro to this classic comedy duo. Here they're sick, aging and a shadow of their best. The gratuitous slapstick is irritating. Look elsewhere to discover the reasons for their success. And their influence? Gilligan and the Skipper are a straight copy.

  • When the Russian Language?

  • the bizz nizz.funny.........

  • Man, I had no idea Laurel and Hardy made a film denouncing taxation, government bureaucracy and interventionism.

  • Hmm. After watching the whole thing, Im gonna give this one a D-. Sorry fellas. The plot was confused, the slapstick too contrived, and the characters even weirder.

  • @rbairos1 well stan was sick..as you can tell wacth other laurel and hardy classics (utopia is not a classic!) like way out west and blockheads! they waaaaaay more funny! and entertaining...

  • @LonesomePine369 Fair enough.

  • Laurel had lost 25 kg due to diabetes and dysentery, Hardy had put much weight on. In short, they were in horrible conditions and that had a bad effect on their performance. Yet I like this Utopia, do not ask me why.

  • I enjoyed this movie it does not deserve the rep its got over the years! if you can except how stan looks this is a fun movie =D but the ending didnt go them justice!

  • @beavistv369

What's wrong with the ending? It was a very typical Laurel & Hardy ending. L&H once again hit a big setback; Ollie once again tells Stan "Here's another nice mess you've gotten me into!"; and once again Stan bursts into tears.

  • this is more funny thin meet john doe.

  • hehe lol

  • the kings of comedy

  • look at me, I'm expressing myself to the world, in a you tube comment. wow, I have a lot to say, much more than 500 characters, maybe I will write a book instead.

  • awesome ... is my karma

  • very clever

  • hiliarous and fun laurel hardy movie i have seen on veoh website!

  • look people its Laurel and Hardy. this is classic, good or bad its older than your grandma, shut your trap you might learn something.

ps calling things you think are dumb 'gay' is so '1986 macho douchebag', welcome to a larger world.

  • lol @ welcome to a larger world.

    best comment ever

  • Have you nothing better to do than to trade lame rhetoric? Guess not.

  • Uh... Was that Rhetorical?

  • So you are saying it as good as Bruno?

  • That's very corny. Like ethanol corny.

And the movie "Bruno" was gay in a good way. This movie is Barbara Streisand gay. Or Cher gay.

  • Lol the fact that you react like that means your probably hiding your sexuality, also get a life.

  • Sexuality is not something that can be hidden. It is or isn't. One is attracted to men and/or women or one is not. What one tells others does not change one's sexuality. It is simply truth or lie. Perhaps you meant that I lie about my sexuality. If so, choose your words more carefully next time, or, if your are not an intellect, whereas all indications suggest the latter, take your saurian, effete, laconic vitriol and orally consume 1 part sulfur and 4 parts oxygen, in large quantities. :)

  • Anyone who uses 'lol' is anathema to me.

The word 'dude' is never a good choice. No one of intelllectual avoirdupois has ever used the word 'dude'. Chomsky. Einstein. Pynchon. Hitchens. These men would be laugh at anyone using such a ludicrous frat boy phrase.

Also, sexuality put downs are so played. "You're gay", "You're a fag", "U suck cock", "Hiding your sexuality". These all have no basis in fact. Further, they have been used to the point that they are no longer insulting.

  • 366weirdmovies & ChadMedellin isasten floria!

  • There's little way to evaluate the truth or falsity of your statement, l02220k. "Od" isn't a word; I suspect you meant "old". Old is a relative term, so we can't ascribe truth or falsity to it: "Utopia" is old compared to "Transformers," but not old compared to "The Iliad." The term "gay," in the sense I think you mean it, is vague and subjective. I suspect by "gay" you mean "not popular with mainstream teenagers," in which case the statement is likely true.

  • To:' 366weirdmovies'

    1) U have used the word falsity, where falsehood is appropriate, falsity being perversion of truth resulting in damage others. Falsehood being the opposite of truth.

    2) 'I02220k' likely inteded that film was odd, which is opinion. That the film is old is self-evident, in that when people refer to things as old w/o provision of comparative touchstone, it is invariably in relation to other similar things, films in this case. Relative to the majority of films this one is old.

  • 1. Per Princeton wordnet falsity = "the state of being false or untrue), e.g. "argument could not determine its truth or falsity." They list falsehood & falsity as synonyms.

    2. I considered he might have meant "odd" but thought it less likely. Besides "odd" could not be falsified, which was l02220k's challenge. Films have been around for 114 years, so a 58 year old film is probably middle-aged, not old. ;) It's all fun anyway.

  • @ChadMedellin ....shut up

  • the American universities where he would come to get an education. He came of age at an extraordinary moment of promise for Africa. The struggles of his own father's generation were giving birth to new nations, beginning right here in Ghana. Africans were educating and asserting themselves in new ways. History was on the move.

But despite the progress that has been made — and there has been considerable progress in parts of Africa — we also know that much of

  • I read some where that this movie was banned in the USA!

  • @rudedogii Why would this be banned??!!!! its a laurel and hardy comedy!

  • @beavistv369 I think it was considerd, Leftist, Socialist, propaganda.

  • @rudedogii mmmmm.....O.o but i never heard of it being band at all! they never said in any laurel and hardy doctumentarys that talked about atoll k (utopia) O.o i never heard that anywhere else

  • @rudedogii

It seems more like conservative-republican or libertarian propaganda to me. L&H lose everything they have due to taxes.

It's definitely not leftist or socialist. L&H naively set up a government with no taxes, no laws and no money, with disastrous results! If the film has a political angle, it's simply anti-anarchy. In my opinion, it's a comedy first and foremost, and a political statement second.

  • @rudedogii

Since when does the USA ban movies?

  • @Perlinator67 I not sure about beening banned but alot of people where Black Listed for there political views. I read some were that this movie was not released in the USA. I think it was considerd un American.

  • @rudedogii

According to "Laurel and Hardy: The Magic Behind the Movies" by Randy Skretvedt, Utopia (aka "Atoll K") was released in Europe in 1951 and in the USA in 1954. So its American release may have been delayed, but not banned. The USA government simply does not ban movies. Of course, individual American cities or local theaters might, but the federal government would not. I'm not looking for an argument, but the Federal government would not; not even during the McCarthy era.

  • @Perlinator67

You maybe correct! Banned maybe have been the wrong term. Dont get your panties in a bunch!

I will try finding the web site I got my information from and get back to you.

  • @rudedogii

I do not wear panties and if I did they would not be in a bunch. I'm only stating what I believe to be true. I did not express any hostility towards you and I certainly don't want to pick an online fight with a fellow Laurel and Hardy fan. After all, as Stan Laurel once said, "Life isn't short enough."

  • The ending is kinda sad. Too bad a utopian society on works in theory.
