His parents did take him to doctor and gave him the injections he needed, but as time went by they felt it harder. They need money for their other kids as well and Messi's club at that time couldn't help either. He went to Barca at age of 13 if I'm not mistaken. Barca ensured he would be treated until he achieve the current height.
