  • So much passion and power between Allman Clapton and all the other musicians. Why can't we get that from mainstream music today. And i don't just necessarily mean it being rock music, but all the popular stuff of today. FOr the most part their is no passion their anymore. Everyone is just out for the money. Its not about art anymore its about profit. We need to bring it back to being about art again.

  • At first I didn't understand this song's title. After looking it up, I saw that Eric wrote it about his then-unrequited love for Pattie Boyd, the wife of his friend and fellow musician George Harrison.

The title, "Layla", was inspired by The Story of Layla / Layla and Majnun by the Persian 12th century poet Nizami Ganjavi. It is based on the real story of a young man called Qays ibn al-Mulawwah. from the northern Arabian Peninsula, in the Umayyad era during the 7th century.

  • When he wrote "Layla", Clapton had been told the story by his friend Ian Dallas who was in the process of converting to Islam. Nizami's tale, about a moon princess who was married off by her father to someone other than the one who was desperately in love with her, resulting in Majnun's madness. This apparently hit Clapton rather sharply...and of course his love for Pattie Boyd drove him to write this song and "Wonderful Tonight" for her. He is one HECK of a musician.

  • @jmr1068204 What you don't say is that later on he marry Pattie and as Harrison divorced too

  • Kulturguterbe!

    5 Finger oben :)

  • Ta piosenka uzależnia!

  • This song is crazy good.

  • The second part of this is my favorite piece of music in existance, it is so powerful!

  • Don't know which section of the song I like better. Both parts before and after 3:15 are amazing.

  • AWESOME

  • Just. So. Good.

  • just amazing hes my hero!!!!

  • this song is for pattie!!

  • so this song is a cover? its not originaly done by eric clapton? someone help me..

  • @BrandonRandomnesss na he wrote it but when he was in derek and the dominos or something.. it is his song tho

  • I met patty at a party once, it's my only claim to fame! She was stunning.

  • euhm this is the version from cream written by e.c but the bad version

  • @ORIGINALjGUITAR Not cream, derek and the dominos. Plus this is the only real version besides the acoustic.

  • This has to be one of the best songs ever.

  • As Ellis from Left 4 Dead 2 would say: "If the laws of Nature would allow it... I would bare that mans children."

  • I actually would marry this song if it was allowed

  • @amistill1987ill They've allowed you to marry a pillow in certain countries, i'm sure if you looked around a bit you could marry it.

  • hanamoon

  • This song is aong...........get over it,

  • Comment removed

  • i have tryed playing the song on my gurtar i am up to the solo bit.

  • Eric Clapton one of the best Guitar players ever!

  • I love this man. Yes, it's about Patti Boyd who Eric fell in love with. They were together for a time but I believe that Patti is now living a quiet life somewhere in Arizona? He also wrote Wonderful Tonight for her! so I just say thank y ou Patti, wherever you are.

  • @mamalovestv no man, pattie lives in and around london, my dad befriended her in an art gallery, shes a photographer you know. she came to the netherlands in like september? and came to our home. she is a very nice lady.

  • @Th4Jok3rr Thanks! Last i heard was that Patti was living in the States. I'm glad she's doing well. I always liked her.

  • @mamalovestv well, maybe she has a house in the USA aswell, i'll ask my father if he can ask her the next time he sees her. :)

  • @mamalovestv OK! I remember seeing a program about the Beatle lives and i could've swon that she was in Arizona but that was like ten years when Linda McCartney died.

  • This song kicks a**. You can hear the passion in Eric's voice.

  • what?

  • Dont forget the most haunting slide guitar in History DUANE ALLMAN......

  • Great song !!!!!!!

  • One of the best songs on earth!

  • Layla is the best example of sublimation; of turning strained, heartfelt emotion into something beautiful.

  • I love his guitar styling :) DUN NU NU NU NU!

  • His music is fantastic! I've never heard a Clapton song I didn't like =]

  • @roseblehh You mean not everyone likes the best???!

  • his voice sounds high because he is, these were his junk days, duane is playng the slide, he makes the song

  • @dirtymackdaddyOG He was younger, and, and sadly, drunker.

  • menudo puto temazo eh ?

  • saw this live it was amazing. the last concert you'd expect someone to trample on you but that weirdly enough is what happened...

  • i wish someone would write a song like this for me!

  • He wrore this for Pattie Boyd :)

  • This IS the Derek and the Dominos version, but that IS Eric singing, with Duene Allman playing lead. EC played the lower end of the running second guitar, Duane was the one you here in the background with the HOO-Hoo-.

  • Hey man, this is the Derek and the Dominoes version!! I think Eric doesn't sing in this version, right? What a shame, his deep voice is awesome in this song.

  • it's still Clapton singing in this version. his voice was just alot higher back then.

  • @leoking57 Of course EC sang this! He wrote it. The name Derek was a combo of his nickname Del, and his real name Eric.

This was to be a recording band, to see if the music would sell on it's own, without knowing who was making the music. After word leaked out who all was involved, they kicked musical ass!

  • to be fair he did it in the niceist way possable... and they did say friends sooo..

  • Yeah, he stole Georges wife, while Geo was busy with someone else's. Why do you think they were best freinds? Eric did him a favor.

  • I'm sure this song is on Goodfellas... or maybe on the trailer? I love that film. And this song. It was the first song I ever put on my mp4 player.

  • I like the piano part it reminds me of the movie goodfellas.

  • almost like it was at the end or something

  • thats because it was in goodfellas...

  • @DeeAtoms this song is in that movie

  • @DeeAtoms it is from Goodfellas, when I heard it i thought the same thing lol

  • @DeeAtoms fuckin great movie

  • @DeeAtoms YES IT IS OF THE MOVIE GOODFELLAS !! ; )) THE END OF THE SONG

  • @DeeAtoms YES!!

  • Clapton is a rock GOD!

  • Layla!!!!!!!

  • This song is about George Harrison's first wife.
