I also lived on Okinawa from 1972 to 1974. There were still many military bases there. My husband at the time was stationed at Makiminato while in the Army.
The living was a mix of traditional and Americanized. We had many Okinawan friends who were very special to us.
I have been stationed on Okinawa twice and it is still a very nice place. Makiminato is no longer a base though, it was turned over to the Japanese and subsequently turned into a popular shopping district.
Hi everybody, this is me who made this video, I know its a nice video I made it 2 yrs ago, but sad to say, my family already broke apart and its been a year now, Im only with my kids now, this will just serve as memory to my family, Im divorce and separated now, coz my exwife dont love me anymore she love somebody else now, but what is important are my kids and we need to move on, thanks for all the good comments may God bless us all...Webbar
doug, I can only imagine what it was like there in the 70's before it became heavily developed and paved over with military bases. Was it still pretty traditional living back then?
I lived on Okinawa from 1971-1976, a beautiful place, I did not recognize any of the places in the slides; I have heard that it has changed quite a bit in 30 years.
To all of those asking about the song. The title of the song is "Warabigami" meaning Gods child, its okinawan song, and the singer is Rimi Natsukawa shes also Okinawan from the Okinawan Islands.

Hi, All:
I also lived on Okinawa from 1972 to 1974. There were still many military bases there. My husband at the time was stationed at Makiminato while in the Army.
The living was a mix of traditional and Americanized. We had many Okinawan friends who were very special to us.
Some of the videos brought tears to my eyes.
Hang in there, Webbar. It does get better.
Blessings,
Janice
